I don’t understand why they would prevent cutting in Road Atlanta but the other known tracks you can still take shortcuts? Why not make it so you cannot cut in any tracks and have similar barricades? What is so special about Road Atlanta?
You can’t help but smile when you say Georgia?
What if everyone who complains about corner cutting on these forums strives to drive the absolute best and cleanest lap they can. Some people are just trolls and you cannot change everyone’s minds, but hopefully the young players and the new players see this behaviour and attempt to learn how to drive clean as well.
Model the behaviour you’d like to see and don’t worry too much about what others are doing. Drive fast and let them cut corners well behind you.
While I understand the question posed here, I wanted to add an observation that I Love about FM6.
I am a wheel driver, and I think driving a wheel lets me feel Soooo much more of what is going on with the car in the game now… Driving a well tuned car, and keeping it within its limits, results in some incredibly realistic racing… for me at least…
That said, I hate seeing corner cutters in my races… Irritates me to no end.
But… as a wheel driver, I have definitely noticed a couple of things T10 has done in the tire physics that I think are appropriately realistic here (at least at this level of game/simulation)…
If I decide to follow them through their shortcuts, I can IMMEDIATELY tell that my tires have been dirtied and I will experience a loss of grip for some distance after returning to the racing groove. This is true for Grass, Sand, and paved non-groove areas where cutters often travel.
After some time of racing in the leagues (trust me I have logged a lot of hours — Its a sickness), I have realized that by slowing down, making the turns within the driving groove, and keeping the tires clean (and sticky), I am most often able to over-take the cutters after the short cut… I’d say this is true 90% of the time… Particularly true in Ghost leagues.
Leagues with Car-Car Collisions enabled are a different story though because the cutters slide out in front of me and then cant get appropriate levels of grip and are VERY SLOW to accelerate… Because their tires have been dirtied, they often are gyrating all over the track too, struggling to find grip for acceleration. All of this puts me in the position of having to decide… Do I slow down till they recover to avoid getting hit by those gyrating/corner-cutting idiots ( thereby risking getting hit myself by trailing racers), or do I punt them off the track will a well placed hit??? Neither Solution is good here, because I don’t want to slow down and get accidentally punted myself from the drivers behind me (who expect me to be appropriately accelerating off)… And I don’t want the new “Driver Style/Temperament” Algorithms to start labeling me a Smash/Crasher…
So, I think more corner cut prevention is in order as T10 is made aware of the areas where they most often occur.
The last two turns (15&16) before the long “Ullman Straight” at Sebring… Seems like everyone is now trying to straighten that area out… And there, they are often successful… I would love to see more “Loss of friction” occur for the offenders. In real racing, if you get out of the groove, your pace will take a significant hit until your tires have had time to become clean and sticky again…
My two cents!
Nice write up mate! Perhaps on day I’ll try a wheel, but for now I love the controller! I just can’t see myself sitting in a real driving position with arms outstretched for hours on end…that to me is just too much and why I prefer the controller for now.
Unfortunately it’s common to see half attempts. There are still some rough edges on this game, this being among them. I said in other threads that we need more sticky grass in all the known hot spots, but not right on the edge of the track, giving it a car length or so gap so most honest mistakes won’t be punished so harshly.
