xDeaDxZeppLiNx's Drag Racing Wishlist, Drifters post up too!

Dear Turn 10, or any developer that finds this,

There have been many racing games over the last few years. Many of them have been great games. I am a die hard Forza fan. Both Motorsport and Horizon. Motorsport had always had some form of drag slicks and at least 1 drag track. The 2 drag like hoods. But truly could add a few little things to make drag special.

The last game to have any good drag racing, with burnouts and staging, was NFS Prosteet. That was on original Xbox! There is and has always been a very large drag racing community on Forza. We’ve made due with what we’re given, but why has there never been some actual thought or work put into drag racing in either series?

As brought up previously, there’s always been something “drag racing” has been in every game. But every game has gotten less and less like drag racing. In FM6, there were actual leaderboards that where only accessible by some stupid glitch. Turn 10 “fixed” it by just not making the leaderboards accessible at all. Why? Why not just fix the glitch? In Horizon there is what is called a drag race, but its just a standing mile-ish that’s dominated by AWD V12 Twin turbo ridiculousness.

I truly feel that if Turn 10 rolled the dice, gave some attention and love to those that have been wanting some proper, actual drag racing in one of these game they would open the door for some new life in these games.

For Horizon there should be something more than a mile runway. There are drift zones and speed zones along with speed traps. Why no “Drag Zones”? Whether it’s just your car, like the drift zones or rivals with a ghost or even any close drivatar. When you get to a nice 1/8th or 1/4 mile stretch, like a bridge or city block, have there be a Drag Zone.

There really needs to be a “Storm Island” type pack that would offer real drag racing specific upgrades. Huge engines, tunable boost turbos and superchargers, NOS, proper drag suspensions, wheel packages, body mods, etc.

The same can be said for drifters too I’m sure, however it’s much easier to get good drift cars in these games than drag cars. Short of the AWD nonsense that’s passing for drag racing that folks are resorting to.

So much potential!! Think about one of the most popular shows on TV is street outlaws. All the small tracks all over the country are packed every weekend. Give it a shot! Ok, I’m done for now.

Speak up, sound off. Get all the ideas coming! Let’s get some proper drag racing in the game or get someday to see that there should be a real drag racing game.

I know I’ve seen tons of threads and many, many people that had many different issues with drag racing as it is in these games. Let’s gets some ideas going, start something. I’m tryin’, and apparently dyin’, here!

Start compiling them into a comprehensive list.

I’ll start figuring out how to do that, as far as links to threads. Your features lists you posted are inspiring. All great suggestions.

I have exactly zero experience in anything in the game industry beyond playing the end product. I do however have very vivid thoughts on things that could add alot of character to forza. I’ll have to just write up something that’ll paint a picture.

That would be a better way to go about things.

Only advice I can give is to keep things constructive and to the point. The list I posted earlier today could serve as a template. Use bullet points, and never assume that your thoughts will match up with the silent masses that do not visit these forums.

Also, be willing to accept the fact that even if you make well-reasoned requests that they may not be implemented. The development team get thousands of requests and can only dedicate their time to handling the most pertinent ones. On top of that they will only work on projects that line up with the vision of the creative driectors and other higher-ups who lead the team(s).

It’s not just you, it would be nice to have some proper drag racing in the FM series. I put something about it in the FM6 cars and tracks and FM7 features wishlists. It’s one of those things in Forza that I want to like and do more of but it’s tough to get into it when there’s really nothing there to work with. And it is a massive community in motorsports, especially at the grassroots level, I don’t have numbers to prove but I’d bet there’s more amateur drag racers (including the “Friday Night Street Legal” crowd)out there than everything else combined(especially in North America).

My hope was that if I started a thread, this one, which I’ve changed the name of a few times, all the people I’ve seen writing about how much the drag racing needs this or that would post up. That sorta hasn’t started snowballing yet, haha.

I will work on a big work up of what I’m seeing in my head. Maybe even sketch up some pics and scout actual in game locations to fit in my ideas. For now, maybe just a quick description of what’s in my head. Scary, lol.

What I’d like to see is a more personal approach to the horizon game. No new tracks or cars necessarily, just maybe an actual story/career mode. Start off as somebody that has their “1st car”, starts to get into either circuit, drag, drift, rally, whatever. At least the big 3, circuit, drag and drift.

Whichever you choose, thats what the events are centered around. From entry level to pro. Cars, discipline specific upgrades all get better as you get better. The same type if career several older racing games had in a way.

Taking a page from GTA V, Midnight Club and several NFS games, have a home garage. Something you and in multiplayer that can be driven to. Something other than the festivals of car meets. “Your” garage.

As you progress, your garage can upgrade. Go from a one car garage to a full fledged speed shop. Maybe have your storefront be worked in, like an actual car shop. Have things that can be added to or upgraded on the property. I’m not talking adding a whole bunch to anything that isn’t already in Horizon 3. There are already tons of houses, farms, buildings that could be used for such locations.

As far as drag racing goes. There really should be some sort of drag tire in the game. The lack of actual grip leads to this whole, mutated AWD things that takes over every horizon game. FM6 has one, couldn’t that just be used?

There should be a 1/4 mile drag track somewhere on the map. Even if it’s the runway, but a stand alone drag track wouldn’t be that difficult. Long stretch, 2 lanes, good sized parking lot next to it to line up, meet up.

The actual race mechanics don’t need to be complicated. Burnouts and prestaging need to be a part of it. Tires already heat up as a mechanic of the game, just tweak it for drag racing. The tree can work much like a real timing tree. You drive up to the two “beams”, 1st beam, 1st light, 2nd beam 2nd light, then the light works as normal. Red lights even.

Basically, it can be a drive up to, always on drag strip. Just pull up, do your burnout or just stage then go! As for drift and circuit, there should be an always open drive up to circuit track, like a little home town circuit track. Not an event on the city streets. An actual track. For drift, a full time drift course. Maybe an off road track too for Rally folks.

I know that all seems like a lot to add, maybe it is. I’m my mind it’s more a matter if tweaking things here or there. As I’ve said before, I’m not a developer of computer guy so there’s certainly more to it than just putting it in.

Thoughts?

I’d really like to see other’s ideas for adding some much needed upgrades and game changes.

Here’s what I’d like in the way of drag racing in Forza. I do see the Motorsport and Horizon series quite differently, and want different things out of each,

In both games-better drag specific vehicle upgrade options and physics (including telemetry). Ideally I’d like to see the ability to upgrade vehicles with tubs, stretched wheelbases, and drag specific wheel sizes and aero. The ability to do burnouts (and we need the tire heating that they’re for worked into the physics of the launch). Proper timing including reaction times, ET’s and trap speeds, and of course the more detail in the leaderboards the better.

Motorsport- As I’ve stated in the wishlist threads, I’d like to see some of the iconic strips that exist, and some legendary drag cars, much like what the FM series has with road racing. I’d like to see drag specific vehicle classes (the classes would have to be done with more consideration than FM6, which are a mess, as many have stated), the ability to take a car all the way to Pro Mod. A proper Christmas tree, staging, and launches including red light DQ’s. I’d like to see elimination events worked into career, or even a separate drag specific career (similar to the expansion packs) as well. If they could work in bracket racing somehow, we’d have it made.

Horizon- In pretty much every town on the planet with more than one car in it, you can find the Saturday Night Stoplight Nationals. Be it a group of people on some deserted highway or in some industrial park in the middle of the night doing eliminations, to just two random people at a red light, pretty much any straight road can become a dragstrip, and this is exactly the type of thing that Horizon lends itself to. Make it so you can line up against random drivers in freeroam for a 1/8 or 1/4 race, and some career elimination events would be awesome. That’s what I’d like to see in Horizon. We’d still need to have the usual generally accepted rules of drag racing such as jump starts worked in, of course
