Xbox Live Server Connectivity Quick Faq *please sticky*

Moderators, please sticky this.

Are having connection issues with Xbox Live or connecting to servers? Here a few quick steps you can do to see what’s going on.

  1. Can’t connect to a game server? This is Microsoft responsibility. Head here support.xbox.com/en-us/xbox-live-status & see if Xbox Live is having issues.

  2. You checked step one first, Xbox Live is up & running properly, but you still can’t connect to Xbox Live? Head here next support.xbox.com/en-US/browse/xbox-one. From here, there is a nice size list covering any support need you might need. Now for not still being able to connect to Xbox Live, go here next for Port Forwarding info support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-one/networking/network-ports-used-xbox-live.

  3. Can’t hear your friends online, or you can’t join or host a multiplayer game on Xbox One? Head here support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-one/networking/nat-error-solution. As of right now, only 2 games on Xbox One uses Microsoft Cloud Servers on Xbox on (developers decsision to use them or not). That’s Forza 5 & Titanfall.

If you normally have open NAT, but all of a sudden it’s strict, try this. Disconnect your Xbox One from your network. Put Xbox One in energy saver mode & then cut it off. Next, power off/on or restart your router. Once your router has come back up, cut Xbox One back on. Go to settings & reconnect to your network. This works well in this scenario. Hopefully your NAT is back open.

  1. Last step. While you are in FM5 experiencing any hiccup that’s not normal. Hit “B” button to back all the way to title screen, where you hit “A” button to start game. Hit home button on your controller to go back to Home Dashboard. Now, FM5 is currently highlighted. Press the button with 3 straight lines on it. Select quit. Relaunch game.

These 4 steps should cover your Xbox One needs for connecting & playing online.

Use instant on with your Xbox One? Here is a nice trick to avoid sound & static issues.

Anytime you use an app, like say Netflix or YouTube. When you are finished using that app, hit Xbox Home button on your controller. Hit the 3 staight lines button. Select quit. That closes the app. From my experience, if you don’t manage this & have a bunch of apps running in background. It can & will cause issues with you sound among other things on Xbox One.

I always physically quit an app or game when i’m done with it. I use instant on. Been a very long time since I’ve had to do a hard restart on my Xbox One because of sound or static issues.

I hate seeing endless threads of people complaining about server issues, so I think this is a good idea.

Me too. That’s why I took the time to do it.

Its a bit ridiculous that these steps are required to play a game. For the record though, i have open Nat, correct ports as instructed on the helpline, excellent fibre optic broadband, with speeds far in excess of what i can imagine needing, and don’t use instant on. But, the vast majority of games I join have robot voices, and the game sound/static issues are a constant nuisance, and the speed up - slow down problem ceased to be amusing long ago.

I don’t care much if Titanfall has the same issues because they use the same sort of server or whatever, I care that this game for me is still riddled with bugs like this 9 month after release.

I’m sorry your tired of endless threads about this, but most are tired of having these issues.

Post # 2 I did in this thread tells you how to rid of the sound/static issues. Once I started doing that, it doesn’t happen on my Xbox One no more. #fact

This is very true mate. Some days i wonder if is even worth switching this game on…

The Game FAQ has been stickied since March with the first topic listing those links as part of Troublshooting. I’ll revise it to make it more clear, but we don’t need another sticky in the forum.

The amount of troubleshooting needed for this game is unreal sometimes.

I don’t use instant-on. Therefore, when i power up my xbone, all applications are closed by default untill accessed. So, once i start Forza, there should be no issue. But 50% of the time, robots reside in lobbies where people should be. If i start Fifa, even with any other apps in the background, i get in lobbies fine, and have not come across robot voices.

Even if shutting down all apps fixed it, its more of a bodge than proper fix. The system is supposed to be able to run with multiple app - that’s a selling poi t for the system, its the way ‘snap’ works. #gaffatape

Well, I don’t hear robot voices anymore & haven’t heard them in months.

I’m glad for you. Honestly. But i think a massive amount of people have to jump through hoops and chase rainbows in order to simply play this game as intended. I honestly wish you could sticky up an actual fix to the problem, but all those of us that have issues are offered is information on how to temporarily solve the issue.

It actually amazes me at the problems people post on here about this game. Truly. When I decide to play FM5, it’s no different than playing FM1-FM4. Select game, loads up, & I play it. Never gives me problems, except it took me to dashboard only twice. Been atleast 3-4 months since that’s happened.

What’s temporary? Just do what I do. Nothing temporary about. I treat my Xbox One like my smartphone. I said what? On my smartphone, I’m all about battery management! If I happen to use an app that I normally don’t use, you better believe I force stop it when I’m done.

Don’t see the big deal about my procedure in post #2 of this thread. It takes literally 2-3 seconds to go pack to Home page. Hit 3 line straight button on app & select quit. My Xbox Stays on instant on. No way would I fully cut it off. Takes to long to come back up. I haven’t heard robots or had sound issues in forever.

But if ya’ll want to keep your Xbox One on energy saver (which doesn’t appear to be working out for ya’ll, still getting robots & sound issues), then go right ahead.

This is a silly solution. Why would i treat my xbone like a smart phone. If people are unable to use the system as intended, then it is broken. All apps are closed when I turn my box on and wait for a few minute to power up. Robot voices still.

More to the point, running multiple apps is a key feature of the system. That’s exactly what Snap is. If a game ca not function correctly because another app is in use, its broken.

I’m glad you found a solution that seems to work for yourself, but the sheer volume of connectivity issue posts lately shows how bad the problem is. Robot voices, laggy lobbies, paints not showing, and getting booted back to the home screen for voting to kick are issues that should not exist in a 9 month old game.

I someone in this day and age, on a ‘new gen’ machine cannot turn the console on, start the game, and play it to its full potential, it should be fixed.

Well then, your Xbox One is a lemon then #accept-it

I no longer have lag issues by online letting my Xbox One be online, or no more than my wife’s tablet.

So my Forza experience is 100% smooth.

I have zero problems on mine.

Gangrel, look how many people experience problems on the forum. You made this thread because there is a daily thread and you were getting irritated. Please stop and think about telling someone their console is a lemon and picking a fight that is only going to end up with you having 800 people jump down your throat. The fact is that the problem is widespread enough to warrant concern.

Going to lock this before it becomes a problem.

I’ve noticed shilling on Facebook. Is this shilling I’m seeing here?
