Will there be a FOV slider for cockpit view?

Nope…

Year after year I put in this request and nothing changes. I can honestly say I love this feature in PC2 as I find myself using cockpit view so much more. Having this option is also very useful for hood view too.

The lack of FOV control is one of the biggest complaints I have with the game. In the cockpit view, the correct FOV for one setup will be incorrect for another. We need to be able to adjust it based on our screen size and viewing distance. For example, if my eyes are 23" from a 16:9 27" monitor, my vFOV should be 32.14 degrees.

Triple monitor support would be the very next item on my wishlist, with each screen rendered separately based on side monitor viewing angle.

PC2 allows adjustments for all camera views, while GT Sport allows a minor adjustments.

Now it’s FM7 turn to give us one of the most requested feature.

Hello, is there FOV and POS adjustment in the final last updated game?
Thanks.

No.

Have a guess.

realize that in order to change FOV in any game, you need to change the Focal Value. The standard Focal value is a NON fisheye type, Widening most FOV’s to have more detail on screen, creates a fisheye effect, which there is nothing enjoyable about it.

Games where you are moving in a linear direction and then rotate the camera, make this effect even worse. The only way to correct that, is by moving zooming in to where the effect is less noticeable.

Whatever way that you do it, the effect is going to either require more processing power, or is going to lose fidelity.

Assume that Turn10 found the best option that they could, and made it static.

This is a FLAGSHIP game, that is made to look amazing, and sell consoles, while still being playable.

Changing anything could drop the frames to a grey area, where people would be upset, or drop the resolution on the cars in the focal range, because the are not technically supposed to be drawn at High or even medium resolution at the distance they are.

The good thing about racing games, is that cars are not expected to all be clumped together in the viewing area, at a point where they would ALL be rendered in High Resolution. Messing with the camera, would allow you to see too many cars on screen at once… some of which might be drawn at low resolution.

as a harcdore gamer, that sees this as an acceptible trade-off, you are the exception. There are too many people that are NOT interested in the excuses of the limitations of what is possible. They want it to look like Jurassic Park at all times, and have no mental capacity for anything less than perfection.

These people also think that Madden looks fine, at 30fps, and a lighting model from 2006 is acceptable… so long as their HDR capable 4K TV tells them the graphics are both in 4K and using HDR, even if the game isn’t actually doing any of that.

Wonderpill hit the nail on the head. A wider FOV means more of the game world has to be rendered, and graphics always eat up a significant portion of any game’s performance budget. T10 have set the FOV such that they believe an acceptable amount of the game world is visible. That, in turn, determines how much detail they can render in the game.

An article that Digital Foundry about Forza in 4K talked about how T10 does their stress tests to determine if they’ve gone over budget with their resources. They basically run 24 AI drivers in a tight pack in all view modes and make sure that the frames never drop. Even though its extremely unlikely that 24 cars will be visible at all times, they do that to make sure that even the most taxing situation won’t affect the gameplay.

Changing the FOV would throw that entire process out of whack.

Most sim racers would want to REDUCE the FOV, not increase it. It’s too high by default when sitting in a sim rig with the screen just 2 feet from your eyes.

If what your saying is true. Then how does a game like PC2 handle a FOV slider and still get 60 fps. If they do get 60?

Project CARS 2 runs at an AVERAGE RESOLUTION of 900p with an AVERAGE FRAMERATE of 60fps on the Xbox One.
Forza 7 runs at a CONSTANT RESOLUTION of 1080p with a CONSTANT FRAMERATE of 60fps on the Xbox One.

Not to mention that I think Forza 7’s graphics are much better than PCARS2.

Absolutely right. Although PC’s graphics get the basic job done, they don’t have the crispness or detail that FM7 does. T10 has prioritized graphical fidelity over options that honestly, a majority of their player base won’t ever use. It would be nice as a wheel user to have more options, especially with cars that have awkward views but I understand sacrifices had to be made. When you look at some of PC’s cars, it looks almost like 360 generation. The detail in the GT5 Ginetta car for example is pretty rough. The dial gauges for example are very low res.

No.
