Played for 30 minutes today to check out the cockpit view experience… can’t help but be disappointed that there have really been no improvements, and perhaps even a few steps backwards.
No look to apex camera feature that track racers have been asking (meanwhile there are 4 settings for drift camera features)
no camera position vertical/horizontal tweaking
no customizable camera physics effects tweaking (i.e, braking effect, accel effect, rumble effect, shake), and overall the physics effects on the camera seem way tuned down - way too much in my opinion (and the only setting is “normal” and “off”).
poor mirrors (textures) when they are visible, no virtual mirror for dash cam… a rearview mirror is super important for racing!
Absence of new features aside, the cockpit view seems strange overall to me… admittedly I have only put in 30 minutes. But in that time it just felt off. I know that isn’t helpful for a dev… maybe its the muted g-force / physics effects, maybe its the default position… not sure.
Anyways… I’m going to put off playing for a couple of months to see if anything gets updated /fixed. As it stands now, for an immersive cockpit driving experience, I’m sticking with FM7 for now.
You have to change the FOV for the cockpit view to be usable. I set mine to 63, I think. There is an on/off setting just above the numbers that you have to toggle to get it to work, so don’t miss that.
When it is off the FOV sliders should be disabled, what weird designs they have. Or just remove that on off like other Forza/Horizon games. Whole thing is an Over Engineered Mess.
Hi there. This is my first post. I’ve only played Forza Motorsport for an hour or so, and have a question - maybe you guys here can help. I prefer the cockpit view, but I don’t seem to be able to look around inside the cockpit. Looking left and right only provides views outside of the car - i.e.: I can’t look at the rest of the interior (glovebox, etc.). Do you know what settings I need to change, or is it just not an option? I know you could look around in previous Forza cockpit views. Thanks!
Edit: I’m so happy to stand corrected on at least one of these items. The radar is awesome, and I applaud the devs for making a solid effort in improving core aspects of the game.
@Ragadurn is correct. I’m not sure how you’d do it on other methods like KB+M or Wheel.
I really wish they had put some more time into this, as its an awesome feature. They should flesh out the cockpit view. I want to be able to use the in-car guages. Right now there is no way to remove redundant info on the HUD without losing things you still need.
It should be easier to look around the interiers during a race. The rear-view mirror should be easier to see and use. Give us a radar or a spotter.
I have a feeling none of this is going to happen though. The game we want has the bones of Forza, the character of iRacing, and the visuals of GT7.
Map a button for Look Forward, Look Left and Look right. Make sure you can press Look Forward while pressing either Look Left or Look Right buttons. When you press Look Forward and either of the Look directions, the camera will snap to an interior view at 45º left or right, depending on the direction you are pressing. Pressing all three buttons at the same time does nothing.
It’s not the same as using an analog stick to pan left and right, but it does make quickly glancing in those directions possible and gives a better sense of how close something is to your car. The tricky part is remembering to use it.
Cockpit works great with triples because you can see your mirrors while keeping a proper FoV. Would be nice to have the ability to tweak seating position and proper triple screen support though. Virtual mirror should be an option for those on single screens. I never liked look to apex, but can see why people would like it.
PC2 and AMS2, the Dirt and WRC games, its not universal, but its not uncommon.
If anything, it shows how disconnected T10 are from the rest of the industry. I’m not saying they should copy others homework. But I am saying they clearly dont play any other racing game themselves. The closest they’ve come to a feature like this is the drift camera. Which was suggested in their own hub for years until they implemented it. The people working in the T10 studio are not car people, they’re certainly not race people. They do not know what else is out there to implement to their game to make it better.
