What’s even the point of an auction house if the in-game economy has already been blown apart by people moaning about cars being too expensive.
Those that moaned at having to save up to buy a car, will have kittens when asked to pay millions in the AH. And unfortunately, they seem to be the only ones who are listened to.
The removal of the Auction House was unfortunate as it took away the Painter/Tuner’s ability for limited edition runs but if the obscene content was truly that bad then it’s removal is not the end of the world.
As for the storefront however, that is an upsetting removal. Now the Forza economy is a quasi-socialism where everything (Painting/Tuning) related is free and the Forza overlords pick the winners and losers. In previous games the best paint jobs would rise to the top and the seller controlled the price giving the economy a more Free-Market feel. That way there was more competition. Now if someone has already painted a race replica then what is the point of me painting the same thing (even if mine is better) because the system will favor the original. This is only half of the issue of the new system.
In previous Forza titles when browsing the storefront you could search for anything. You could also search by brand, by model or just by using a keyword. I loved just seeing how many people had a Camel sponsored car or a Guinness sponsored car, it was fun. You could also go from highest to lowest rated and the T10 front page was filled with so much cool stuff. Nowadays the T10 selects can be gag-worthy.
I would like to add that one of my favorite things in the AH in FM3 was when someone made trans am car with special paint, parts, and tune for about $400,000 I really enjoyed those cars… I miss the AH… What was wrong with the FM 4 storefront? Way better search… Turn10 selectsi in current storefront are a joke… Paint camp, splatter on premade decals, fugl!y paint jobs suck and are an insult
People cheating was the problem with the storefront. This is an attempt to prevent that. There were lots of good tings bout the storefront as well, but it was never going to last with the amount of cheating going on. Hopefully some of the better features return with Horizon 2 and Motorsport 6.
I’m thankful none of you happen to be military officers. Here’s a little story for you all, I think it’ll get my point across…
“Oh no! An enemy soldier! What do we do?” - “Shoot him?” - “No! We retreat! There might be another one up this way sometime after we shoot the first one!” - “But Jim, we’re in a tank. And we’ve got an entire battalion with us. I think we can handle a guy with a hunting knife carving his name in a tree.” - “No we can’t! I swear he’ll overrun us! radio chatter Alright! We’ve been cleared to detonate the earth!” - “Uh, Jim, we’re also on this earth. Other people besides us are on this earth. Inoccent people. You mean to tell me that you’re gonna detonate the entire earth because you’re too much of a coward to face one guy? One guy with a knife while you’re in a tank?” - “It’s the only way! He may chip the paint on our tank if he gets close enough! Think of the damage?!” - “Couldn’t we just repaint it?” - “No! We end this while we still can!”
The moral of that little parable is that if the challenge you face isn’t a big deal, don’t overreact and make it more complicated than it needs to be. Did they have to detonate the entire earth to stop one guy? No. They could’ve just used their tank to stop him. And when the next guy with a knife showed up, they could’ve done it again. Yes, they would have had to stop more than two guys, but eventually, no one else would dare to face that tank, and the war would’ve ended. Instead they overreacted and detonated the earth, and now no one can ever do anything good or bad again. The end.
A fix to the AH would be to complete a video training for every person prior to their first time using the AH that covers how to use the AH, general tips for quick flips, and what behavior will result in bans. Part of the problem I think is T10 relying on everyone to read the MS rules and applying those rules to the AH, which I doubt any does. If they want to possibly reduce the problems some, they should be more proactive to remind players what is undesirable behavior.
The AH for me is great when it harder to amass credits and upgrades for cars still cost a decent amount. In FM4 and in FM5 credits are easy but in FM2 and FM3 I always struggled to have a nice bankroll. I remember doing some quick flips or posting some tuned cars on cars I got a decent deal on and it was pretty fun once I got the hang of it.
I liked the old system when compared to the new system. It was much easier to search and honestly, I enjoyed being able to search say “redbull” or “PPiDrive” and see all the redbull designs or all of my designs for any car in the game as opposed to the one I happen to be sitting in. The search was much nicer and it shouldn’t be hard to transfer that from a vertical feel (FM4) to a horizontal feel (FM5).
Even searching for designs is harder in this iteration and if you don’t enter a contest or win a Turn 10 Select you might as well not even bother. The original designs made before the game launched are nice, but mediocre and generic at best yet due to being the first ones up still dominate the top of the results for every car they are available for. I’ve had design up since launch week and they barely get shown or used. The game was supposed to pay the painters based on how much others use their paints and make it more of an “even” distribution yet you don’t get paid unless your design is used in over 50 races in a 24 hour period. All the painting and tuning achievements in the game will only be achieved by the best of the best and no one else can come close.
A lot of people will says “If it isn’t broke, don’t fix it.” but I’d like to use the exact same saying for the previous version. The auction house being gone is an easy solution that fixed lots of problems. Making everything in the storefront free, is also a good solution to the community money problems, but starting a new storefront from scratch was unnecessary.
In retrospect I’m now glad the auction house is gone. I’m in sales for a living and I get a similar rush out of flipping a car for profit as I did in getting a great time on track. I would spend hours in the auction house flipping cars for credits I didn’t need instead of racing. Now that’s gone I’ve been able to focus on racing and tuning and have greatly improved my abilities. We’ll never see the auction house again and as someone who lived there in the past, I’m cool with it. T10 knows by now there are some features that need adjusting. I’m sure we’ll see that in future titles. Horizon 2 already is bringing back clubs. I’m assuming this will allow us to share cars without gifting them.
with the credit modders and such that ruined the auction house and any chance of getting unicorns from there, I am glad it went away. Until they can find a way to curb those tools forever, I’d rather see it stay gone. Just my 2 cents.
im quite happy with hacker central being gone from the game ,but the cleanliness of the storefront ehh not so much . but as it was posted above they wanted to try something different . they did its has had a terrible impact on the way we all were accustomed to doing our business …
its just as Verruckt posted until they can be preemptive on all the hackers/cheaters instead of reactive we will not see alot of community features returning
I hope for the sake of those that have always put in the time and effort to share their work with the Forza community that a feature similar to the auction may be implemented. At the same, I hope for the sake of all Forza gamers that said feature can be delivered in such a way that it does everything possible to ensure the integrity of the game.
I actually think the current system can work with a few adjustments.
Firstly it must work as intended and not have blanks, crashes etc
It should be searchable when not in a car - this effectively reinstates storefronts.
The “good stuff comes first” feature (for paints) should place greater weighting on downloads than use. This would reduce the boosting paints coming first. Or let use decide the sorting criteria ourselves.
The Auction House has been abused for sure. So, although it serves a great deal of good, I understand why some object to it. I’m not in that camp. It is interesting that so many people love to hate the Auction House even while stating they never used it. Are their pervs, racists, modders and just general tools in the AH? You bet. Are most of these types in Forza 5? You bet. They are just harder to spot
Touting the Storefront as a desirable option seems to ignore the fact that’s where people go to hack UGC. (User Generated Content)
None of this would appear to explain the decision not to allow gifting both locked and unlocked. That would have allowed painters to colab on their work. A number of the painters I speak to tell me they just can’t get motivated in Forza 5. This is in no small part due to the labour intensive act of creating vinyls from scratch. In the past, they could split up these duties and share.
Equally as important, it would have allowed us to operate Community Events and comps as we have in the past by providing a mechanism to award prizes of cars and/or LE designs. While T10 says:“We recognize that some of the fun of the forums was being able to create your own community contests. We want you to be able to continue with this vital activity on the forums, so we are going to provide some help.” , their solution does not remotely do an adequate job of restoring this feature. I applaud them for at least attempting some type of bandaid solution even though it falls well short of it’s stated goal. It indicates they realize how important this is to the Community.
If we can’t have the Auction House, at least give us back Gifting
Gifting: Send me your (name it) unlocked and I’ll send you some really good stuff that sells well. That’s how FM4 and Forza Horizon have stolen items from even FM3. Or the person disappears after taking your items unlocked, and never answers your messages, blocking you.
As for finding someone in Designs, find their item(s) in Vinyls by using Search, then FOLLOW them. If you’re looking for (brand/model) Design, and they’ve created something for it, among the first five Recommended items will be that gamertag’s creation. If it isn’t listed, they haven’t created anything and you can try another make/model, again without being in the car itself.
Is it worth sacrificing the community building aspect that Gifting brings to the game just to protect the stupidest or greediest people, Snow? If we apply this to the rest of our lives. we would outlaw email. telephones and infomercials because of Saudi Princes needing short term loans, time share salesmen and con artists flaunting “miracle products”. Well, OK. Maybe infomercials should be outlawed.
You just can’t cheat an honest man, those who were robbed of their work in scams by hackers got what was coming to them. As my signature can show you I am a painter and I was often approached with those kind of deals and things but I only ever gifted unlocked to people who I knew for quite a while.
