So no one is making money off the tuning set ups we download so why are the tuning configurations hidden? Why can’t we just see the settings? They should be able to lock out the changing of them, of course why does that even matter either? I like doing my own custom work but I also like to see what others have done to learn from their work. Same thing goes for vinyls too but that is for a different forum and is a little bit different being artwork and such.
I also see a lot of tuning set ups listed here on the forums but the settings aren’t posted or am I missing something?
Each tuner gets to decide how much to share of their tunes by deciding what to pose to the forums, I guess.
On a car you haven’t upgraded, you can see what parts the first loaded tune has added by going to customize and seeing what parts you now have in your garage. I assume you’re interested in all the various tuning parameters too.
In-game, it’s a little extra effort but some of us try to include some descriptive text in the notes field; I try to add text like “low stiff no aero”, “low stiff high gearing med aero”, etc. These don’t tell you exactly what I did, but do give you some ideas. If you like a softer ride that won’t throw you off your line when you clip a big inside bump, then “low stiff” is a hint you may be looking for less aggressive spring/damper settings, or to save points on springs to spend elsewhere.
Online, it’s a lot of extra effort but some tuners post a full list of their settings; I’ve found some on theytube and some here in the forums. Considering what those generous souls have provided, I highly recommend you try a few out and see if they give you the head start you’re looking for.
My bad, I did not realize there was a monetary kickback from sharing a tune setup. Honestly, there is nothing in game so far that led me to believe there was. I definitely would not want to take away from someone earning some credits.
It seems with such a low reward being offered since FM5 there isn’t nearly the selection of good tunes like there used to be and I really wish FM6 had brought back at least the storefront system so tuners and painters could really earn their keep. A good example was the other night Drows took time out when he could have been driving to do a custom tune for me. After come communication over the course of a couple of nights he tweaked it a bit more and I couldn’t have been happier. I’ve probably put more miles on his tune in a single night than I will do all week in my 70 mile one way commute to work. If this was the 360 I’d have happily dropped 30-50k on that tune and it sucks I can’t show my appreciation in any way other than the two words of Thank You.
Using the leaderboard as a reference point, i would say there are more good tunes available; if it’s shared and has been ran on that track, you know it’s the real deal. So many times, I have downloaded a so called top leaderboard tune, loaded on to my car, only to find it’s not a patch on the tune it is supposed to be.
With credits so easily available (thanks to the stupid prize spin feature), the low reward received for someone downloading and using your tune, in my opinion, is sufficient. This coupled with seeing someone in a lobby or on a leaderboard, using your tune, is reward enough for me.
To answer the OP, should someone take the time (days in some cases) tuning a car and then share the set-up, as the originator of the file, it is automatically locked to everyone else, almost like an inbuilt copy writing system; the originator retains full rights to the file.
Let’s be honest, if Banksy painted a mural on a wall and didn’t tag it as his own, some a$$hole would look to benefit from it, by tagging and claiming it as their work. A bit like the past Forza’s, where people would steal the paints from others, and try and pass them off as their own.
