Where will Motorsport or FM8 go or what should it have been?

When FM8, or FM23, or Motorsport, or whatever you want to call the game, it was to be the most advanced game of all time. being such a game it should have been everything FM7 was and more at initial launch.

With hindsight being 20/20 we can all look back and see it fell far short of that mark. Now eight months into the game the updates have been playing catch up and trying to close the FM7 gap. Well, there’s 8 more FM7 tracks to go before FM8 even equals the tracks of FM7. At the current update schedule of a track a month and a month off. It will take 16 months just to catch up to the point the game should have been on initial release. And that doesn’t even account for the FM7 fantasy tracks that aren’t included in FM8. Here’s a list of real tracks yet needed to balance out to a startup point equal to FM7; Bathurst, Mount Panorama, Road Atlanta, Monza Circuit, Sebring International Raceway, Circuit of the Americas COTA, Long Beach Street Circuit, Sonoma Raceway, Top Gear UK,

And this doesn’t even address the lack of content in the FM8 career vs the FM7 career. There was so much more depth to the FM7 career. The FM8 career couldn’t have taken more than one or two weeks to throw together.

And the only new tracks we got in the “so called” new game were a few made up fantasy tracks.

We’re looking at a good 2 years plus of “updates” at the current rate before we see a game that even starts to equal where FM7 was at it’s eol. I’m not sure there are enough players holding on to keep this game alive for another 2 years.

I think this game is facing a chicken or the egg kind of situation. It needs more content to gain more players, but it needs more players to justify making more content. If this game was popular im sure there’d be more of a push to get content out faster both free and paid. Since its not popular we just get slow free stuff, how long that lasts i dont know.

I honestly dont think this game will ever reach its full potential. I think the quantity and especially the quality of what was first released was so low that in my head at least its an almost impossible task to save this game.

The motorsport series was stagnant, fm7 had a lot of tracks, it had a lot of cars, it had great graphics and pretty good sounds, but it was fm6 with some more stuff and fm6 was fm5 with some more stuff.

I think this game has improved on a couple of areas that needed attention like the multiplayer, adding a penalty system, adding skill/saftey ratings, improving the physics, improving the ffb, implementing a better fuel/tire wear system.

But then theres a but, the multiplayer is restrictive, the penalty system doesnt work properly, the ffb is atrocious with stock settings and the skill/saftey rating is meaningless. So that knocks the improvements down a few notches.

Then you start looking at the negatives compared to the past games and theres less cars, theres less tracks, the graphics are improved in some areas and worse in others, the sounds are all over the place, the career is, you already know how long this list gets.

As of now 8 months in we’re still waiting for the new stuff they added to actually work properly, we finally got a single qol improvement with the tire wear multiplier this month. They have added tracks but not one is new, theyve added cars but for the most part also not new.

Like you said at the rate theyre going it will be a couple of years at least and thats just trying to get up to par with a game that was apparently the reason they decided the franchise needed a reboot. This is why they need to focus on new things, new tracks, new cars, new features, new game modes. Do something new, going down the same path as before is only leading towards the same dead end.

I personally didnt think fm7 was a horrible game, i think if they took some of the improvements like the physics, the practice/qualifying structure etc and added it to fm7, it would actually be doing quite well. But they chose to burn it all down and this is where we’re at, where do they go from here, i honestly dont know, theres just so much that needs to be done and i dont think time is on their side.

Agree with the OP and the other poster who can read - it’s a frustrating cycle of anticipation and disappointment, and players are obviously losing faith in the game’s future.

Even now, many months in, it feels like they’re milking the community for every last drop of goodwill, ladling out morsels of content and calling it new, when we all know it’s just what should have been there from the start.

The clock is ticking, and they’re running out of excuses, and what’s left of the community is running out of patience.

I fear a big problem with the current status of the game lies in the community. The current community is split maybe 60/40 in favor of the current game status. Maybe even higher percentage in favor. Reason for that I contribute to players jumping over to other games. Those who have stuck with the game, our numbers are declining. So I’m saying that, to say this: I totally agree with your statement above. I just feel that particular community you mention is a small part of the remaining community at this point in the game.

I pop on a few times a month to see if there’s anything I want I have yet to finish the builders cup and this is my least played Forza by a mile.

It’s just not has good has previous Forza games.

That’s because it came out of the oven only about 1/4 baked with about 1/5 the ingredients.

More like raw dough, and salt no other spices, or water.

Big lack of communication and transparency from Turn10, though they did acknowledge CarPG was a terrible idea. A more definitive detailed roadmap would be nice.

Too much recycled content that should have been in from the start.

Almost no actual new content, aside from race cars everything drip fed is from FH5.

Features missing that were in FM7.

Definitely a recipe for gaining fans.

Thing is I love Forza I really wanted to love 2023 Forza but so much is missing all they needed to do was update 7 make the graphics better for those who love graphics over play, add in the tracks from previous forzas, and bang no complaints from most.

I actually think the biggest mistake of this game (in terms of content) is not having a wild amount of tracks in the game at launch - including dirt & snow courses.

The one track a month thing (and sometimes not at all) is such a debooster.

There’s also a huge amount of fun national level tracks around the world that would love a forza tie-in too. That’s a huge opportunity that could’ve been tapped - but of course no.

Consider Forza 1 had 18 tracks at launch you would think T10 would have at least used the fantasy tracks they own from previous Forza games, so much could have been but alas we got this.

I honestly don’t know how many hours I’ve put into this game but I know it’s not even close to my 2nd lowest which is definitely FM5 (only played for Forza Hub points).

The fact is that if Turn 10 isn’t working on a permanent single player expansion of career mode and opening up multiplayer both public/private then this game will never grow. Until I get to play this game how I want to I’ll be able to AFKing for FOMO only.

I’m never able to play things I want in multiplayer (E class junkie) and single player doesn’t have a true career, the formula for a good one was there from previous titles (FM3,FM4) Hopefully one day they’ll figure that out like the GT devs did.

GT7 doubled with Spec 2 content for a reason, single player is still extremely popular and multiplayer needs to be opened up so we can play what we want.

Fomo isn’t even inticeing to me at all anymore like I say I jump on to see if there’s anything I want. But so far this game to me at least isn’t Forza.

I know not everyone here is a horizon fan but let me tell you some of the tracks regular folks have made in that game make Forza look amateur.

Problem with FH5 is the tracks aren’t real world locations plus I like racing interior view and in FH5 it feels like it’s going in slow motion so had to use bonnet cam, also FH5 still feels arcady tho the vehicle sounds are far far superior to the junk in FM8

Most vehicles engine sounds in FM8 are laughable to downright horrid
