Make it Turn 10 as well, since there’s a Buggy championship in FM7, where there’s no dirt to be found.
Offroad Buggies as a category is all over the place. You have Baja 1000 specials such as the Penhall and Baja Bug, but also cars I suspect weren’t developed with such events in mind, such as the Ariel Nomad and now the Exomotive Exocet.
Moreover, by watching videos of actual Baja 1000 events on YouTube, I came to realize the types of roads Class 10 buggies drive on are much more closely related to FH4’s Scrambles and Trails than to Cross Country. In these events it’s not rare for buggies to leave the road, but they don’t feature numerous obstacles on the track for you to blow through either. And these very obstacles, in the form of various objects, are one of the major problems with Cross Country buggies in FH4, as none of the vehicles in this category is heavy enough to hit fences and other objects without being upset by them. Doing Cross Country races in an Ariel Nomad is an absolute torment.
I can obviously blueprint my own events, but that’s not the point. The problem is that Playground loves these events enough to litter the game with them. There are more standard Cross Country blueprints in the base map featuring Offroad Buggies than plain Offroad. Seasonal Events often feature buggies with a max PI of A800, which is way too much for some of them without AWD conversion, which I refuse to do since it’s just easy mode (also why I don’t drive the Polaris and the Can-Am very often).
Buggies are easily the weakest part of Forza Horizon, which is a shame, since I like some of these vehicles. But they’re simply not well utilized in this franchise, I’m afraid.
IMHO I prefer the lack of obstacles on the race track, I was doing the titan once, in the hoonigan Fiesta and was flying along, just ahead of second place. I smash through three picket fences with ease, the fourth picket fence slows me down about 50 km/h and now I’m down in fifth.
Glad someone else has noticed this. Buggies do NOT do well smashing through ANYTHING. It always seems to slow you down. Have to avoid fences like you avoid houses and trees lol
To the guys who said they love buggies: do you run easy mode (AWD) or the way they were intended to be driven (RWD)? Because I love pretty much every car after AWD conversion.
I’d much rather drive the buggies around tracks in FM7 than do Cross Country races with them. Even AWD they’re hard to control with jumps and obstacles.
Nah, I always let off the gas in the air and right as I enter water. The clutch/flywheel don’t seem to have much effect, though remembering to put on heavier rims has helped a bit. I seem to recall having to put a great deal of effort into tuning the Cholla and Alumicraft in FH3 to make them driveable over bump and jump terrain. Never could get the RZR to behave, though. Ultimately, I found it was simpler to just blueprint for other vehicle types. In FH4 I haven’t felt like putting that kind of tuning effort into any buggy.
I will need more on objects. I can see if you are wanting a baha, but this is forza with smashy smashy. Custom routes can do some nice baja run. Specially for fortune island.
Not fully on topic, but my issue with these offroad events is that the track just randomly goes through fields and people’s backyards while we have perfectly good dirt roads in the vicinity. Why not make the dirt tracks be on dirt roads?
Today I did the Forzathon event in the Alumicraft and almost quit, had to go from pro down to above average difficulty to win. The buggies are tons of fun for jumps and drifts but killer in racing situations. Any bump or twitch drastically affects the load of the suspension, so any degree of angle and you’re spinning. Way too tail happy for my tastes, and that castle section where you have to thread the needle was infuriating.
