I Hate Cross Country

Am I the only payer here who hate the cross country races? I can’t be. I really don’t understand why anyone could think them fun. Especially with the AI system that is currently in use(nitrous, super sticky tires that allow them to take all turns at any manner of speed anyone?), and considering there aren’t any actual off-road upgrades to be installed(yes I know I can tune the car to be more suitable to off -roading, but it would be much easier to throw on a set of dirt tires or what have you). I reatrailslly don’t enjoy these races, it would be more manageable had the devs used the trails that are on the map, or made some for this specific event.

Anyways, the fact that I’m almost forced to drive a classic muscle car through the hills and valleys of France and Italy pushes me towards near rage. I love the game, but I hate some of the races.

get the old army jeep. not sure what its like in the game, but in real life they are a blast. its a barn find somewhere. when i was in the army and they took my jeep and gave me the hummer i wanted the jeep back. hummer sux especially in the trees. the jeep was great.

I absolutely love them.

I think the reason is I needed something different, challenging and seat of my pants to enjoy. Most other racing has become so repetitive.

Setting a good time in these requires a no fear approach.

Yep something can go horribly wrong and you can miss checkpoints and the like but when you do a good run it feels better than a good lap at Silverstone in my opinion.

I would not want them changed. And I do not tune differently for these. I tune the car to turn and it usually turns well for these too.

Maybe part of my problem is that I race with damage on.

If racing musclecars offroad doesn’t amuse you, you clearly never watched Dukes of Hazzard. A mud-splattered Mopar makes me happy.

Then you’ll love this.

Objection your honor, speculation

Objection sustained. Upside-down drivatars over jumps as evidence.

AWD or feathering the throttle should help some, it takes some patience.

I drive with the over the hood view and I have to admit going through the fields is a challenge! It is satisfying to cut a good time like Eduardo said. I refuse to use “rewind” , that’s not driving! Someday maybe I’ll catch Eduardo in rivals…

I did not respond specifically to this part.

I use no assists but have damage off and have no problem matching their nitro, super sticky runs.

^^^^^^i also have all assist off but the drivatars are ridiculous with XC races. They never ever ever mess up but yet im sliding around like an animal and cant make a simple turn at a reasonable speed. I could be ahead of them for miles all of a sudden there right on my tail again. I honestly feel sometimes they have a small boost of nos just like the cops did in NFS hot pursuit 2.

you probably need a better tune to turn better off road

Also throttle control is key. Back off to try and turn and maybe give it some to drift but it mashing the gas doesn’t always work.

^^THIS^^

80% throttle is often faster than 100% when in the rough, especially with RWD and/or big power.

You just gotta cross your heart and giv’er. Dart between trees, get big air. Cross the finish upside down. Be Hammond, not Stig.

Never let off the throttle all the way, especially in RWD and/or midengine vehicles. You can REDUCE throttle to slow down , but never CUT throttle. Avoid braking, too; a well-timed reduction in throttle and flick of the wheel are usually just as effective in getting the car to turn. Keep it stable, avoid getting sideways. Tempting as it is, sliding scrubs speed, especially on corner exit (where it’s most important).

And finally, DO cut. This is as far from a racetrack as it gets, the best line is the one that has the fewest metres/yards to cover.

I regularly beat unbeatable drivatars (by several seconds) through the weeds with zero assists/line, m/c, sim steering and no rewind by driving like this, so there’s no magic tricks to it.

A tiny green dude from outer space once said: “Do, or do not, there is no ‘try’.”

Good luck everyone. May the Forced Induction be With You.

I’d like cross-country if it wasn’t for the rubberbanding being so obvious. Then there’s the fact that Drivatars can ignore checkpoints completely, not even getting within a hundred feet of them, without penalty. They also seem to be affected by terrain far less than we are, like how I can’t accelerate when my wheels aren’t touching the ground as a consequence of skipping over bumps like a stone across a pond but they seem to accelerate through there as though they aren’t leaving the ground. They corner at high speed without sliding like they have F1 downforce while if I carry the same speed I slide for half a mile.

The rubberbanding is at least as bad in the finale, though. I’ve left the pack leaders in a four-car pileup at a complete standstill and moments later they’re blowing my doors off again. Cross-country and the finale are the biggest offenders there.

This sounds like a different game to the one I am playing.

Are you on the 360 or the One?

I have seen no rubberbanding.

I have seen no drivatars ignoring checkpoints.

My car takes corners at insane speed given the grip levels in this game so if the drivatars are doing the same I think it is a good thing.

I saw no rubberbanding in either of the finales and would have preferred a tougher battle for it.

I am beginning to wonder something though. When I first started playing FH2 my times were pretty poor. I realised I was driving like I owned it ie a careful approach to driving proper like lol.

Now I drive it like I stole it and find the competition fades into my rear view mirror pretty quick.

To those who do not like it and believe rubberbanding is going on would you describe your driving style as a simulation, FM driving style or have you adjusted to a all out driving style which is needed in a game like this?

Hey SatNite, there is some kind of rubberbanding on the XBOne, I noticed once at the final race. I did well on one of the shortcuts, and pulled far away from the rest of the field. I didn’t make big mistakes, and usually when I don’t make mistakes the drivatars don’t stand a chance, but suddenly they catch up on me like nothing.

And for cutting checkpoints I have a picture uploaded where it’s very visible, its not a cross country race and not very far that they are cutting, but it is there. Have to say it is the only time I noticed it though. (I think its one point to point race that goes from Montellino to Castelletto) Search for my Gamertag or ‘cheating drivatars’

Well at first i hated it ,but now i like it rofl
