Personally, I hate them. I knew that when I read about them a few weeks ago that I was going to hate them. I can win every race on “unbeatable”, but for these I have to go to “new racer”. No joke. Anyone else struggling with these or am I just bad off road?
So you hate the feature because it actually challenges you? You must be young, struggle is life. I’m no pro racer, I find them fun. Just have fun, you don’t have to have some delusion in your mind that you’re some ‘unbeatable’ master when you play the game in order to enjoy it. It’s a game, who cares if you have to turn down the difficulty. FH2 isn’t meant to be taken ultra serious, it’s meant to entertain you.
No, that’s not why. I hate them because I’ll hit some hidden bump that sends me flying, or get rammed by a drivatar into a tree/building, not to mention it’s impossible to see where you are going on some of them. I don’t mind a challenge, that’s why I race on unbeatable. I’m OK with restarting an event a few times, but I seriously restarted the Sisteron Modern Rally event over 20 times. That’s when I gave up and slowly started reducing the difficulty. I was surprised that I had to go to new racer just to keep up with the lead car!
Cross country races prove Ian Malcom’s Chaos Theory. For these races if you hit a bump or jump wrong you crash. Happens to drivatars too and on Storm island seeing all these cars crashing and flipping all around you will make you feel like you are in an action movie. Cross Country was sadly not designed for cockpit view though.
Using a viper is always fun in modern muscle (I fail to see how any version of the viper is a muscle car when it and modern corvettes are sports cars and possibly borderline GT car) for these. Some muscle cars get a speed rating boost by making them AWD which can help in these races.
Totally agree with you on this. I mean, why am I taking BMWs, Ferraris, etc off road? I love the off road races, don’t get me wrong…but don’t make those races for cars. That’s too arcadish…this game series has been getting more arcade feeling ever since forza 4. Forza 1 was great, forza 2 improved on physics a lot, and forza 3 in my opinion was perfect. Ever since forza 4 though, each one has been more arcade feeling. Horizon wasn’t made to be an ultra realistic Sim, and I understand that, but at the same time, taking sports cars off road without proper off road upgrades is a little ridiculous in my opinion. I also agree with you on the visibility issues. I only race in the dashboard view, but I find myself changing views for the cross country races…but sometimes the grass/brush it makes you go through makes it near impossible to see where your next checkpoint is.
Really LOVE them, Had they not been in this time round i’d of got bored fast! Just need that red smoke to be patched higher though as it’s impossible to see in cockpit view! But year they are my fav part of the game.
I used to hate them. Once I used my brain I realized a 200HP car works better off road than a 900HP car with assists off. I always switch to a lower class for the CC races and never have any problems with car control, or with winning for that matter.
That’s what I did I always have 2 cars set up for each championship now one being high powered for road races and one being low powered like C or B class for off road events. Since I have done this and toyed with tuning setups I find it all great fun.
I like the events, but I don’t like the choices of cars it sometimes forces me to use in them. Some car categories have no business off-road, but you have to race them in Cross Country races. A tip for those having trouble: if you use a race suspension, raise ride height to max and soften both front and rear springs by at least 100 in/lbs, and then soften the dampers by a full 1.0 all the way around. Or, just make sure you have the stock suspension reinstalled, and you’ll be OK.
I posted a comment very similar to yours a week or so ago, noting what I felt was a very big difference in difficulty between road races and off-road races – I thought the rival racers were suddenly twice as aggressive, twice as good, twice as dirty.
But those races are frustrating for other reasons, too. Sometimes you can’t see the checkpoints or the route itself, or even the cheat lines. And unless you do it a dozen times, you can never predict which corners you can cut and which are dead ends. Signs marking corners sometimes throw you off – e.g. sometimes they mark a 90 degree turn and sometimes there doesn’t seem to be a turn at all. I won’t say there are too many damn trees (though I’ve felt that) but there are too many damn invisible car-flipping ruts. Any one of these things will end your race for you if you’re not using rewind, and will still frustrate the hell out of you if you are.
I don’t know, obviously some people are into them, I expected to love them. But I’ve ended up avoiding them. Even when I win I feel grumpy about them.
As long as I’m in some sort of rally car or 4x4 I love them but mucle cars in the rain are no fun for me, in the rain on the mud with trees are really no fun and as for super cars don’t get me started
