Most people use tcs because they harsh with the controls. If your smooth braking and throttle you don’t need to use it.
Most oversteer is caused by lifting off the throttle too quickly or overpowering the rear wheels with too much power too soon, in essence upsetting the car. Keep it balanced and you’ll be fine.
A good car to master throttle control is the formula electric, which has massive lift off oversteer. You always need to have some throttle on or it will spin same as the f1 but once it happens in the f1 you have no chance of recovering the situation. Hence the reason the only car I use tcs on is the f1. It’s possible to drive it without tcs but it’s alot slower and like treading on egg shells.
As a man who values skill over equipment, No I never use assists.
Or well, Sim steering it just too twitchy for me, and if I’m racing in competitive series and driving line is alowed I will use it, just to get that extra reference point.
I see assits essentially as a fail safes, and the less you use them, the higher I will value you as a driver.
Let’s put it this way, A man that is juggling with bowling pins is nice, but a man that juggles with hatchets is way more impressive.
There is nothing wrong in using assits if you think you need those. but as long as you are using those, and if you happen to achieve something (like Top 10 time, win a race, etc.) you are not impressing me.
OK, so you’ve got a car, that don’t impress me much.
So you have the moves but have you the touch.
Don’t get me wrong I think your alright but that won’t keep me warm in the middle of the night.
What it comes to the point of RX3 with 787B engine, or the 1000hp C class cars…
This clip is from Finnish TV show “Tuners” where former F1 driver Mika Salo competes and races tuners in Finland
Essentially the show goes tuner brings the car on to the track, He tests it 3-4 laps around the track, then sets a hot lap time. and the tuner (Who knos his car much better) will try to beat it.
Cars brought in to the show vary between Time attack cars, drift cars, historic racing cars, street cars, and track day toys, main focus being tha latter two.
Once there was BMW E30 Turbo 1192HP entered in the show. this is what happened.
Would that be competetive car? well it was one of the slowest cars on that season of the show. just because every time the turbo spooled up there was absolutely no grip.
Well, there is a huge difference between reality and forza though. But training with a way overpowered car without any handling and no wings on a handling track definetly helps to get a good time then with a car which fits the track.
Also toffo being that you are new to wheel its only as difficult as it is because the ffb is so bad on forza. I am on a wheel on everything except for forza its just not enjoyable with how bad it is… but ill let you find that out on your own. It however isn’t a bad idea to use the ignorance is bliss thing and never try anything else on a wheel unless u want forza ruined for you on a wheel.
I kind of like it. It’s just the no feedback in the peddals that’s catching me out, for now. Practice makes perfect, though.
I have all the other racing titles, yet turned my back on them for various reasons. I was so die hard for GT with a wheel and turned to forza even after how much I loved that game.
.
So, my assists are as follow and I would like some feedback on the Braking line:
SUGGESTED LINE = Braking Only
BRAKING = ABS OFF
T&SC = SIMULATION
Shifting = Manual w/Clutch
Damage = Cosmetic
Rewind = ON
I use the Rewind for learning when I make mistakes (which is a lot of times…lol…). Damage On when I’ve run (just a couple of times) a couple of circuit races with the restriction
When folks say, “run with NO Assists” , do they mean ALL, or, are they just referring to Assists #1 thru #4? How hard is it to take #1 (Braking Line) OFF?
You don’t really need the braking line if your hotlapping. I only switched mine back on as I was jumping class to class.
Switching it off is strange at first but not hard. It’s definitely more rewarding without and is ultimately quicker as you concentrate more on the markers and the corner overall.
You can often find yourself following it wide and losing focus on the inside of the corner before you have fully left the apex.
I used to follow a rule but less so since I put the line back on. This was never take your eyes off the inside until it’s full power time and keep as close to it and the exit will just present it’s self to you. No need to study it point at it or wait for it. Keep it tight.
I run nothing but braking line and the only track I can run w/o it is Watkins. Difficulty without braking line is determined, in my opinion, by your track knowledge. And for me Watkins is the only car I know by heart lol.
How I see everything off it’s everything off except…
rewind (which I have tuned off)
Normal steering (if you want to use sim, then you do so)
TCS / STM off
ABS off
Manual w/clutch
Damage on. (of course there is situational exceptions)
Drivingline. off
That’s bit more than HC board requires, and I have to admit that in FM4 and FM5 I was having that line constantly on.
But as I say, you go as you like, the less you use, the more you will get respect from me.
That really get’s me in few places, Daytona (24 hour?) layout… the one with the chicane before the banking. I have tried but I still havn’t found a good braking point for that.
I’m not saying that there isn’t, and it might be that it’s the reason of the view I’m driving (cockpit) but in some classes I just can’t find any idication for the turn. First sign is the “Daytona” text on the outside wall, and if you see it, and aren’t allready braking you are going to fail that turn.
And as I’m jumping classes, and rarely drive same car more than 3 times a day, and with the exception of nordschleife and couple power tracks (Daytona/LeMans) never the same car in same track twice… Yeah I have a bit hard time with braking points.
Oh well… Never said I’m making it easy for myself.
