I had an earlier thread about “On Power Tire Spin” & there was a response (Foot) that a lot of folks in S-Class run TCS. That got me thinking… I race w/o TCS, Stability Management, or ABS. The only thing that I would imagine that I would use again would be TCS in the upper class cars. However, it kind of feels like I’m cheating myself if I use TCS.
For those out there that run w/o assists… when, if ever, do you run with TCS on?
I have to agree with you. Using TCS and STM does increase your lap times but if you cannot handle the upper class cars, there’s nothing stopping you from using the assists, that’s what they’re there for.
TCS is like a helper. If you have TCS on and you are activating it all the way around the track, yes times will suffer. If you have TCS on and drive as not to activate it, I don’t think it will matter in your times. If you want to get better with a particular car, put TCS on but drive as not to activate it, you will become much better with that car and soon you will be able to drive without it.In upper class cars and cars with high HP, I will use TCS. But I drive without activating it and you really don’t even know it is on. Look at the LB for example, You will see top racers using TCS. The thing is they drive so it does not activate very often.
If you use TCS and when driving, don’t activate it, why use it?
As for the guys at the top of the boards, I am confident they can run the same times without traction but choose to run with because they can set the time in fewer laps.
TCS and non TCS both have the potential to ruin a lap; excessive spinning of the wheels or bogging down when the power to the wheels is limited, both kill lap times. Ultimately, it’s driver input that makes or breaks a lap time; not an assist.
Read the post. I said it is a helper. I will turn on TCS to help with throttle control. If you practice throttle control with TCS on you can tell if you are spinning when it activates. Just because you have TCS on does not mean you have to mash the throttle. BTW I have set same times with and without it, just depends if it activates or not. Used as a safety measure. Now some cars, you can disagree all you like. You will set a much better time with TCS than without TCS.
EDIT: BTW don’t contradict yourself. Why turn it on if you don’t use it. Top LB racers use it, because they get better times.
Not looking for an arguement, dude. I was sharing an opinion.
All I know is, assist or no assist, how “I” drive the car and track, will ultimately determine how quick I am. So, if I can drive a track without winding the wheels up, why should I use TCS. Using TCS when you don’t need it, is like having a third leg, just in case you lose balance.
In my opinion, the easiest way to learn to drive no assists, is to drive no assists; not have them on, just in case. However, there is no right or wrong here; only personal opinion and choice.
Back to the OP. Use TCS whenever you want to dude. You decide when and when not to use it. Some of the cars in this game are a pig to drive, with no TCS and to be honest, most lobby cars are more horsepower than handling. Especially in the higher classes.
As I said before, do whatever gives you the most enjoyment. If that means using TCS, use TCS. Whether it makes you faster or not, if it’s right for you, that’s all that matters.
All I can offer is the opinion of this average driver. Any higher than Top 100 on a track and I get nose bleeds.
I often experience this with the higher class/power cars.
I can hot lap it without TCS and have no problem and get a decent time, but… go into an actual race and throttle control is harder to maintain in the heat of battle.
I run with out TC but will use it for the E23. Am i faster with out TC? Maybe not. Do i enjoy having TC on? No! But again this is just a GAME, enjoy it however you please.
When I first started in Forza… which was FM5… I used TCS & ABS plus the Braking Line. The only thing I use now is the BRAKING line. I don’t follow the color code & I usually brake well into the RED ZONE; I simply use it as a reference point for upcoming turns. I could obviously go without it if my memory was better… I’m a U.S. Marine & combat veteran that has PTSD & a mild brain injury that makes my memory crappy. I also could go without the braking line if I ran the same track over & over.
I went over to FM4 after being on FM5 for a while to see what all the fuss was about. While there I joined a club named BIGTIME MUSCLE. The folks there are great & helped me learn a lot… to include tuning a car to the point that TCS was no longer needed. That’s when I stopped using TCS & ABS.
Now… after improving to the point that I no longer use any driving assists I sort of feel guilty if I use TCS & feel that I’ve failed if I can’t tune a car to the point that TCS isn’t needed when utilizing proper throttle control.
I also feel like I’m cheating when using someone else’s tune…but I share my own tunes. I know it’s silly but I like to see how I stack up against competition with my own work. Don’t get me wrong, I have cars that are tuned by someone else but I still, as stupid as it is, feel like a cheat… silly right!?
I’ve seen many discussions on here about this subject. I really think it’s a preference whether hot lapping or racing. I use TCS in cars that race with it eg modern gt. But, I’ve also noticed that whether it’s enabled or not, it kicks in depending on my entry, and more importantly my exit from corners. Put another way, if I’m too quick in, then it will engage on exit. So, if there’s a particularly upgrade or tune that helps my inaccurate driving, then please post it.
Btw, I don’t consider using assistts as cheating. That would be corner cutting . I will try some of the vintage racers eg Brabham, without TCS as originally built. That will be a test to be quick lol!
I thought TCS was nerfed? I only tried it once early on - A Class Brands Hatch Indy wet - and it was massively off, cutting engine power over every bump and undulation. Maybe it’s ok in the dry, but you can usually tune traction issues out anyway.
I don’t either…I don’t consider utilizing assists as cheating because each person is different. What I mean by “feels like I’m cheating” is cheating myself… like I taking the easy way out instead of learning the car or fixing the tune.
I ran some TCS when I first started playing FM6… just experimenting with it & noticed that TCS just absolutely killed the engine almost every time it engaged. I’ve not ran with TCS since because I learned a lot about throttle control & setting up a car that doesn’t need TCS to maintain traction/ grip.
I also never use TCS, for a good reason. My laptimes suffer if i turn it on because im not used to have it. I want to know when the tires spinning and sometimes i dont care much about it. There is no car in the game which is not driveable without. A good training is the Mazda RX-3 in C-Class with the 787-B engine (which is used for Daytona or Monza) and drive it on Laguna Seca. When you can handle this, nothing will scare you to drive anywhere. Cheers
This was certainly a BLAST…For C-class you can’t even get the Adjustable rear aero, yet, front fit inside the PI limit. No tires or compound upgrades, barely scraped in the P&H. The engine sounds awesome. I will certainly keep practicing with this car every once in awhile. I was 4 secs off my PB, yet, need to practice…a lot…lol…
