Wheel support in Forza Motorsport

WHEEL SUPPORT ANNOUNCED AT GAMESCOM

Forza Motorsport natively supports popular racing wheels from Logitech, Thrustmaster and Fanatec. We also support the DirectInput API on PC, enabling players to plug in and play with a much wider range of hardware than before. This level of device extensibility means Forza Motorsport is accessible to more players who use custom hardware setups.

Forza Motorsport features improved force-feedback for wheel users and takes advantage of advanced wheel features to display RPM, shift lights and race data on custom screens.

This makes it easy not buying new Forza Motorsport

  • Hori Overdrive only is supported
  • it has two modes, one just emulate a controller and would work with any game

My Hori Force Feedback Dlx works with FM7, FM6, F1 2016, F1 2021, AC, WRC7, WRC9, Dirt3 360-compatible, DR, DR2, PC and PC2

  • but not on new Forza
  • but " * Officially Licensed by Microsoft" it says

Good job! Saved me $70.

So the Fanatec wheelbase GT DD Pro is NOT supported on console with a Xbox compatible wheel?!

At least it is mentioned only in the PC list.

Please tell me that’s a mistake, so do not have to cancel my premium edition.

Will using another input device (e.g. keyboard, mouse, gamepad) cause issues when using a wheel at the same time? If I use the mouse to look around, will the wheel input/FFB be affected?

Will Fanatec wheels support these features on Xbox?

No Xbox game I’ve played yet has supported shift lights for example.

It’s officially a PlayStation wheelbase.

Functionally though, once you plug an Xbox compatible wheel rim into it, it functions just like a CSL DD. In fact it’s the same firmware.

I own one and drive on Xbox with no issues in any game that supports the CSL DD.

Each wheel review I’ve watched says TRUE force is a great feature in the games it supports, is this supported on the G923 and Pro DD?

Yeah that got my attention too, and I think yes.

They emphasised thst all of those wheels are supported natively by the xbox.

Here’s the thing, I don’t think Fanatec natively supports those features on Xbox.

Fanatec compatibility on Xbox is rather limited vs PlayStation and PC as they don’t use custom firmware, they take whatever Microsoft stuffs into your Xbox.

Unless there’s new firmware coming, I don’t see how the claimed features will work on console.

The issue is the xbox uses xinput which only allows 4 axes and 10 buttons, two triggers, and D-pad while directinput which they specifically said now works on the pc version supports 8 axes, 128 buttons, and POV. Since they specifically said pc, i don’t think the xbox version will be getting any of this. Its absolutely ridiculous that this still hasnt been changed.

There is a way of wheel developers to add these things independently like logitech has with a custom api but its not officially supported by Microsoft to do so which has hindered fanatec and thrustmaster from doing the same.

Yep. The perennial annoyance of xbox wheel users.

Funny how they made it possible for Flight Sim

The problem is its not funny. We’ll see if anything else is said about this because the way the announcement is written as usual isnt 100% clear. Theres no reason that in 2023 i should have a $1000+ racing rig that has duplicate buttons.

Its also up to the game developer to support the custom api. Project cars allowed people to use keyboards. This is all in turn 10s hands if its supported or not.

I am a 100% with you. I am using the DD Pro base with Xbox compatible rims on PS5 and Series X and had no issues.

I think/hope that the DD Pro will work like the CSL DD. I am just got a little nervous because it is not officially listed. But from the perspective it is officially a PlayStation base, it makes sense.

I‘ve read a post in the Fanatec forum from Maurice that Fanatec is developing a new SDK. So I hope the button/rotary encoder/light issue is fix in the near future.

What does it mean for a wheel to be natively supported on pc?
What is lost with wheels not on the list?

I bought a Thrustmaster TMX to go with Series X

  • but you had to connect to a PC to update firmware
  • and there were only any settings at all for PC
  • no apps or anything to configure for Xbox

Because it had serious loud fan noise and no config on Xbox I sent it back.

Hori has Xbox apps to configure and update firmware for both their wheels.

  • they took Xbox more seriously, I felt
  • and said licensed by Microsoft and some kind of Xbox logo on site

But T10 obviously did not feel this was serious enough

  • my Hori FFB wheel only supported by FH5
  • not for new FM, which only do simpler Overdrive model with no FFB

So a good start for wheel makers would be to make Xbox apps to configure and update firmare. Not having to do firmware on pc, and then nothing configuration on Xbox.

All controls on Xbox controller just duplicated will probably work for wheels not on list, I think.

  • but cannot say for sure

Could you find a link to Fanatec directly saying they’re working on an Xbox GDK?

This user says they are, but official confirmation would be very helpful.

I know it’s certainly something I am hoping for.

Unfortunately not. As far as I know Maurice is a Fanatec employee. So I take his word as semi-official.

I dont know much about your wheel but its an xbox compatible wheel which means it will work on xbox which means it will work for this game on xbox. Its most likely an accidental omission on the list and considering the overdrive is on it im sure youll be fine.

Instantly canceled my 2 premium edition preorder once I seen the wheel support list… I’m tired of backdoor support to only get a wheel to half work… Not for me… I’ll stick with the other games…
