PC Specs and FAQ for Forza Motorsport

Below is our official information about PC features in Forza Motorsport. Please use the PC Specific section of the Suggestions Hub for any PC features not listed. We’ll update this toping toward launch and beyond.

If you’re wondering how your PC will run the game, we’ve created this spec sheet which outlines the minimum, recommended, and ideal PC setups to enjoy the game. We’ve optimized Forza Motorsport to look and play great across a wide range of PCs, taking advantage of cutting-edge PC hardware and technologies with real-time ray tracing on-track and maximum performance enabled by NVIDIA DLSS 2 and AMD FSR 2.2. These upscaling techniques reduce load on your PC, rendering the game at a lower resolution while keeping image quality intact.

Forza Motorsport on PC supports native resolutions up to 4K and beyond, rendering ultrawide and non-standard resolutions for on-track gameplay.

We’ve also introduced shader pre-compilation and pre-caching in Forza Motorsport. This feature already exists in Forza Horizon 5 – it’s the “Optimizing for Your PC” screen that shows up when you first launch or update the game – and it’s designed to prevent shader compilation stutter during gameplay. Forza Motorsport also supports DirectStorage for CPU improvements when loading files to memory. This results in faster track loading.

In addition, unlocked framerates with or without V-Sync enabled are supported for single-player racing in Forza Motorsport. In multiplayer, framerates are locked to 60FPS to ensure a consistent and competitive online racing experience for all players across a variety of PC hardware configurations and the Xbox Series X|S consoles. Please note that the first time you launch Forza Motorsport on PC, by default the home space and menu navigation will be locked to 30FPS, however this can be unlocked in the video options menu.

What’s more, we expect to continue optimizing and improving Forza Motorsport on PC after launch. Be sure to share your wishlist of PC-specific features with us in Suggestions Hub by upvoting features you’d like to see, or starting new threads for items that haven’t been suggested yet.

So Forza Motorsport won’t support DLSS3 at launch? That’s kinda sad :frowning:

The locked FPS across all platforms for online play sounds questionable.

What happens if there are framerate dips below the established cap? Will that affect physics or perceived location of the player on others screens?

Edit: What is the resolution used for the above specs? 1080P, 1440P, 4K?

your comment is irrelevant and doesnt help anyone about game or topic what do you expect ? People try to create something new nobody get pleased. :man_shrugging: :man_facepalming: Im pc player and in my opinion everything as it should be.

Does all of multiplayer have a fps cap? I’m not very interested in competitive racing but simply driving around a track with others.

That’s a great question! Obviously I don’t know the actual answer, but I’m gonna go ahead and assume the answer is that all multiplayer modes will have the framerate limit. My reasoning for this is due to simplicity. Having multiplayer code that is uniform across the board is much less of a headache (and I fully believe it’s a massive headache on the first place) than making multiple forms of networking code to work with locked and unlocked framerates for multiple modes. While this would indeed suck if true, I have hope that, come post-release, complaints that are considered more “minor” like yours are taken and improved upon or corrected.

Trust me, I love track days too, but I fear that the only reasonable development path would affect our preferred method of online play negatively.

Q: Does Forza Motorsport allow data output for third-party applications?

A: Players can enable data out with local host support in Forza Motorsport which can be used in third-party applications.

Hang on a second…

Are we talking like, telemetry data for use in Motec or something?

Because that would give PC users an unfair advantage over console users in car setup. Or am I barking up completely the wrong tree here and this is about something else?

Wait, what? No XeSS ? Unbelievable… Why? That’s a bummer if it’s true… :frowning: will it be added later?

can someone explain to me how the framerate lock will work? at what framerate will the game run in multiplayer then?

It doesnt matter which type of ssd. they suggest SSD with enough space. After this year probably most of games will require SSD. I pre ordered so many games and at least 3 of them require ssd. My suggestion is save your money or if you have enough money buy high capacity SSD for only games not Windows files in it. Btw if i misunderstood you im sorry. Have fun with your new Forza Motorsport.

The data out feature was introduced with FM7 in 2018 and is also present in FH4 and FH5. Basically the ingame telemetry is sent to the IP address and port specified in the options and it is available in the console versions of these games too.

So if data out is implemented as in previous games there is no unfair advantage.

Would this mean liveries/designs/tunes which had been made on the Windows Store versions of previous games could be imported to FM if purchased on Steam?

The only reason why I haven’t gone to Steam was because I didn’t want to lose many hours of work on car designs!

Rather than fix their buggy engine they’re just locking the framerate. This makes the game DOA on PC.

jesus  what year is this? 2012? even i that i have a weak setup i have a 75hz monitor. if the games does not deliver im never buying a forza game ever again and switching to the competition.

4К 60 fps on Xbox means the graphics is far from groundbracking, pretty much any gaming PC will do just fine in 1080p, even 5 years old.
I wish devs drop 4k gimmick and start to make good graphics instead, but apparently this is not the case.

Yup I agree, had some console jockey tell me “You need a $3000 PC to match XSX performance!”
RUHEAAAALLLLY??? NOPE! Shot that down with this lot (edited with more information)…

FACTS:
XSX has 52 CU’s equalling 3328 stream processors running at 1.825MHz.
3328 x 2 = 6656, 6656 x 1825 = 12.147TFlops of raw compute power.
Equivalent GPU?
6800 has 60CU’s equalling 3840 stream processors running at upto 2105MHz.
3840 x 2 = 7680, 7680 x 2105 = 16.167TFlops of raw compute power.
2080Ti has 4353 Cuda cores running at a boost speed of 1545MHz
4352 x 2 = 8704, 8704 x 1545 = 13.447TFlops of raw compute power.

XSX can’t do 4K 60fps WITHOUT the use of FSR in “performance mode”, switch to “quality mode” and you get just 30fps @4K.
It’ll drop the rendering and gfx settings on the fly to maintain the targeted fps rates, dropping to 1600p and dropping GFX settings as needed to keep the fps stable at either 60 or 30 fps.
FSR also DOUBLES input latency, slowing reaction times and increasing the time between controller input and what you see on screen.

Videos:
XSX in performance and quality modes in FH5

ACTUAL console FPS rates recorded by Digital Foundry including rendering FACTS.

6800 without FSR at ULTRA settings… 53.1 minimum 80.8 max

2080Ti @4K Extreme settings DLSS off… min 62.8 fps max 81.7fps

FYI a 2080Ti can be had for £185 on Ebay. 5700X £155 on Ebay 16GB DDR4 RAM £10 and up, B350 motherboard £30 and up. Add a case PSU and SSD for less than £100 EASILY grand total? £480…
XSX price? £480 new…
So for LESS than the price of the console you can get PC parts that are 2-7 YEARS old and will SPANK the XSX by upto 30% and NOT require upscaling to do so.
Console boys need to get their heads out of the clouds and deal in FACTS not hearsay and misconceptions!
In short a 7 year old GPU, 2 year old CPU, RAM, case and PSU costing the same as the XSX would new yet can ROFLSTOMP the XSX with no FSR which console fans INSIST on referring to as “optimisation”!

To utterly END the debate on PC vs XSX? here’s a 61TFlop 7900XTX with 7800X3D

7900XTX ~£1000
7800X3D ~£370
B650 Mobo ~£130
DDR5 RAM ~£60+
850W PSU ~£0-60+
PC case salvage ~£0-30
1TB NVE SSD £0-36+
Total £1686 or £1560 if you HAVE the PSU case and an NVME to hand and are upgrading an existing rig.
3.25X the cost of your precious “$3000 to match XSX performance” console and upto 192 fps @ 4K Extreme preset and no FSR, guess what? that’s 3.2X the fps rate of XSX “performance mode” and 6.4X the XSX in “quality mode”!

You get what you pay for and you console fans are getting ROBBED AND LIED to but refuse to admit it!
Claiming this is optimisation and not nerfing the GFX for fps stability and NOTHING ELSE!

OFC FM isn’t open world like FH5, in the past open world games are USUALLY more demanding to run than closed loop games like track racing games.
This will PROBABLY mean FM will run faster with similar settings to FH5 but will likely go further graphically speaking with possiblty raytraced global illumination etc.
On console the GFX shennanigans will PROBABLY be more pronounced with heavier upscaling/resolution tanking in higher demanding scenarios in order to cope.
Point still stands though, what PC player with hardware CAPABLE of 3X the fps performance in FH5 is gonna wanna play FM online capped to 60fps to appease the 21 million XSX and XSS owners?
ESPECIALLY when over 58 million PC’s were sold in Q1 this year alone, let alone the 168million discrete GPU purchasers over the life of these consoles… Are MS T10 so blind they’ll “cut their nose off to spite their face” and risk losing 168 million potential players?
Have they told their shareholders they’re intentionally narking off 8 TIMES the number of consoles sold with such pandering?
I doubt it, they’ll just add on all those who have game pass on PC as “PC sales” despite getting a mere fraction of the gamepass fees!
