What is the psychological make-up of a "Crasher / Wrecker" Genuinely interested

Who knows what is going on in a crasher’s head when they do this.I have blocked many many drivers in the past just to try to stay out of the same race.I consider myself to be a very respectful driver and I will give up a spot just so I don’t crash.Winning doesn’t mean a whole lot to me just racing with other cars is satisfying .As of right now I will not race multiplayer yet until I fell that I have my cars and wheel setup to where I can control them.I can almost guarantee that my first multiplayer race I will have to deal with these jerks.I have had jerks smash me time after time in races and then they “Friend” me.Are you kidding me,i just block them and hope I never run into them again. And if I race them again I won’t remember who they are until I get slammed again. If anyone reading this is a CLEAN driver, don’t hesitate to add me.I will race you clean and you have my word,if we make contact it’s just a racing incident.I am going to look for a Clean Racers thread and maybe I can find other drivers who want to race and not crash.

People are by far not as screwed up as you might think.

In a race, there are drivers who are new to the game, are relying on the brake line (which might not be visible in a 24 grid start) or just plain make a mistake and so they run headfirst into a couple of cars. Those players might be fed up, because it is the 100th time they get wrecked and now they start to take “revenge” on innocent people to relieve their anger.

And there you go, a very unhealthy mixture of righteous people who slam into each other, thinking they are the true racers, just not this time.

have you played career mode? now think about doing that as a new player before you know anything about tuneing, proper cornering etc…going from last to 1st in two laps. how do you do that clean? you dont. forza trains new players to bash their way thru the field. damage is off by default so there is no penalty. the races off line should be made longer to give people time to work their way thru the field cleanly. how many times have you heard people blameing eachother? “you came into my line”. “you braked to hard?” etc… its like everybody is suposed to get out of each players way. the wreck is always the other guys fault. most of the people you are saying hit you…when asked are going to say you hit them.

you want to stop getting hit, tune your car and get out front. the race at the front of the pack and the rear of the pack are two totally different experiences. the front of the pack is mostly clean, the rear of the race is a series of drag races from corner/wreck to the next corner / wreck. everybody thinks they are going to out brake the other guy, its a game of chicken both people seem to lose every time. the noobs are going to try to win the race in the 1st corner every time. you have to know that by now. for most tracks tune your car for acceleration and handeling not top speed. dont expect right of way, you’re not going to get it. if someone is comming up behind you too fast to make the corner get out of their way and let them fly off the track. then drive past them while they are making their way back to the track.

at bathurst i know whats going to happen every time. i pull off the track immediately at the start. i know some people aren’t going to use their own brakes, they are going to use other cars for their brakes. they are going to try to go from last to first just like career mode trained them to. then i pick my way thru the wreckage. you can easily pass half the field in turn one if you are the last car thru it and there is nobody to rear end you. then you can usually pick off the cars ahead one at a time and often on straights where is is safer. if they are blocking you and driving out of the rear view mirror wait until you are nearing a corner on the insdie then do a quick zigzag jumping outside then immediately back to the inside. if he bites on the outside jump at speed from in front of you his momentum will keep him from being able to come back inside in the corner. you can get past clean and accelerate from the apex clearing him and pulling away enough he wont be able to catch you before the next corner. he knows his car is slow and thats why he was driving out of the rear view in the 1st place. he will either press too hard and blow the next corner or go back to looking for the next car aproaching from behind. you shouldn’t have to worry about them again.

and tune you car for more acceleration. it doesn’t matter what your cars top speed is if you can never hit it. racing is about who can go the fastest deprived of the best line, its not hotlapping. they cant hit you if they cant catch you. the race leaders race clean usually, thats what lets them pull away. you got hit 23 times in one race and didn’t adjust your tactics? it happens every race and you still haven’t tuned / planned to avoid it? it might lose a bit of time moving out of the way and letting the speed deamon that wont use the brakes have the inside line in the corner? more than you’ll lose slogging your way back to the track when he takes both of you out? and i think the extra grip mods are going to make it even worse. people are going to think their car will hold the line when they are sliding off the track taking people with them because it held the line with the mod.

you cant change other people, you can only change yourself. you have to stop expecting what hasn’t happened yet and expect more of what happens every time. the over agressive people are going to wreck every time, the only thing you can change is getting out of the way and letting them wreck solo rather than taking you out. let them have the fastest line into the corner and off the track on the other side. expect to get dive bombed and get out of the bombs way. once you get a couple of corners 2 corners ahead they are at minimum 1 corner/wreck behind and you dont have to worry about them until you are lapping them, at which pint you follow the track rather than following them off the track at the next corner. accelleration helps you recover and get back up to speed quicker so you can pull away if someone does manage to hit you. if someone is determined to wreck, let them, get out of their way and drive past the wreckage.

From what I’ve noticed, people who crash/wreck [Disclaimer: Intentionally] are doing one or more of the following:

  1. Trolling - Doesn’t help that it’s often with friends, often because friends told them about it, and/or YouTube videos being huge influences.

  2. Because they never win a race (they’re not fast, call it uncompetitive), they wreck. “No point in trying if I won’t win.” I do distinctly remember someone coming on the forums talking about how they wreck because it wasn’t fun for him losing every race. The plural of anecdotal example isn’t data, but it’s hard to imagine he’s alone in this thought.

  3. They think that’s the way these races are done. Monkey see, monkey do, right? Additionally, see #1.

I’m sure there’s more, but that’s what I’ve thought of from my head.

This is not to be confused with unintentional crashers. I strive for the cleanest races possible (I rarely venture into online anyway), but I’d be lying if I said I never hit anyone. Save for games of Infected, none of it was intentional though. I missed a braking point. Rough connection. Lost control. Whatever the reason. I don’t do this every race, I know the etiquette, but stuff happens. I do generally apologize. I’m sure there are others who do the same thing I do.

Combined with those people who use shortcuts all the time, it really ruins the gaming experience.
I just find no fun in losing every race just because some idiot plays unfair.
But sadly there is nothing you can do against such behavior.

Custom Public Lobbies were a great way to meet new players and have clean racing, but we all know what happened to that feature :frowning:

While I must agree with everyone when it comes to the habitual offenders of multiplayer. I think some of these offenders just don’t know any better in this game. The career mode for the casual racer at time makes crashing or more ramming the norm or a must to get to the top to finish a race or at times just to get through the pack. I am not a great racer in this game, I never have been, I spend most of my time in the paint booth. I find that using the controller makes a lot of your movements jerky and fail immensely to simulate the subtle inputs from a steering wheel. I can’t tell you how many times I have moved over to block in a zig only fashion, only to find a car in one of my many gigantic blind spots since the side mirrors in most cockpits are not visible and in bonnet view they are non-existing. I have participated in road course races in real life and I find the visual ques in the game series extremely lacking.
Also…
The fact that Turn 10 has failed for 6 games now to simulate damage correctly and I am not talking about the visual aspect but the affect on the components of your car, contributes to this behavior. If a wrecker would come and smash into you only to break their own car and not be able to continue their activities this would ruin their fun and they would lose interest very quickly, but the fact that you can hit a wall at 100 MPH and just keep going or never have to worry about breaking steering or suspension components or never have to fear the sliced tire is very unrealistic and and makes it fun for them.

I personally believe that these online hoppers need to be shorten down in terms of how many people can enter a race. I mean it’s all nice and all that this game can explore the limits of the Xbox one and have 100 players in a race but if u put that many people in a race 40 cars are going to be made of people that don’t know the track, can’t brake properly, and the guys that intentionally ram and all it causes is a blood bath the first corner. Fm3 had it great with only allowing 8 people a race. If somebody spun out it was easy to get around. Now the whole road is blocked off from left to right and if u slow down to wait for it to break open u get rear ended by somebody that doesn’t have the same intentions.

I think to fix this Turn 10 should take all the stats of the player (perfect passes, number of hits/crashes etc.) from single player and a bit of monitoring in multiplayer too and put the player in lobbies with players of similar stats/ability.
Now that is an idea.

PEACE

I have enjoyed reading this thread. There are a lot of trolls out there. I almost became one.

This story is about my low point in racing. I was in a 6 player race online in FM5. When the race started one racer started ramming other cars. I think he hit two cars before the first turn before he was ghosted. One other driver and I avoided him but we were far behind someone who wasn’t interfered with. One of the racers that was hit early left the race. The two of us that managed to avoid the wrecker were chasing down the lead car. After the first lap the two us were closing in on the lead car but we saw the wrecker waiting in turn 1. On the headset I heard the driver of the lead car say take out the red car. I was in second place driving a red car. I slowed down and let the car in third pass me. The wrecker hit him instead and ghosted. The wrecker then left the race. I got passed the wreckage and started catching the lead car. He really wasn’t that good of a driver. He took a turn poorly and coming up on the last turn I was getting close but I knew I couldn’t catch him. However, I knew I could ram into him and use him as a brake. The driver in third should pass us and win. The driver in fourth may pass us too and finish in second. That was the plan. Well, I rammed right into the driver in first. We went spinning. The only problem was I ended up going down the final stretch with some momentum pointing the right direction. I didn’t think about it and accelerated and won the race. The driver that was in third before the incident finished second and the driver that had been in first finished third.

Some people have told me I did nothing wrong and the guy deserved what I did. Others have congratulated me on what I did. What I did was wrong. I still regret it today. I didn’t deserve the win. I sank to the level of the trolls. I became a troll. I have done nothing like this since. Any time I have hit an online driver since has been an accident. For a while I went out of my way to avoid bumping another car to my own detriment.

It is surprising how easy it is to become the troll. Why did I do what I did? Did I just get tired of being hit by trolls? Did I get tried of seeing people cheat to win? Did I have one too many beers that night? May be a bit of each. Fortunately I stepped away from the dark side. It was tempting though.

I dont think there is anything wrong with crashing him in that situation. For the most part I take a no contact approach and avoid engaging aggressive drivers at all, I’m normally quick enough to catch the lead pack in public hoppers even after being rammed off multiple times so it doesn’t rage me too much, its not exactly a big deal even if I cant catch the leaders.

For the most part aggressively seeking revenge just costs more time than its worth… BUT, every now and then there’ll be one guy who will wreck me multiple times in a single race and after catching him multiple times only to get wrecked over and over feel the need to take that revenge! Theres nothing wrong with giving people a taste of their own medicine every now and then.

In general just having a cool temperament about being crashed out will get you quite far, I dont understand the rage quit mentality some people have.

Hyped Hamster, I understand what you are saying. However, I did this out of anger. Why I snapped and took the driver out, I’m not really sure of. It may have been a combination of the things I mentioned in my previous post. Normally I would have been happy with finishing second but this time I stepped over line to the dark side and I got rewarded for it by winning. I don’t want to become that type of driver.

They feed off reaction like most trolls. Don’t give them a reaction, they go away. Most of the time, they are the sort of people who log on to go “right time to screw around with people” on purpose, others do it whilst masking behind a “language gap” or “no, you are!” mentality as that you were the one in the wrong, and others, atlthough very small % in my experience, are just through and through horrible people. Most of the time it’s a game and they like to “play” even if that means distruption. Rarely it’s lack of skill. Majority of the time it’s deliberate because they find it funny, just like people find certain youtube videos of people getting hurt funny etc.

What about automatic trolls?

Just finished 2nd in a race around Catalunya Training Circuit and just as me and the other guy crossed the line we had almost caught the guy in last place. He still had another lap to go, whilst we were finished. My automatic driver then spent the next 30 secs or so, smashing lumps out of his car at every possible opportunity. All I could do is sit there and watch.

Sorry mate. I promise, it wasn’t me driving.

I have my own methods for the crashers and speed runners in drift lobby’s, if the speed runner/crashers are still in the session I will notify everyone and drive a just as fast car and literally ram them till they quit. Yes its not the best method but damn it works well. I let drifters go past and give them room and they even thank me for it. Then we vote them out and it’s back to normal drifting.

Seeing that there is a achievement for completing 1,000 laps online I highly doubt I will ever get it due to the wreckers. I have only played one race online due to them.
