Bitmap lives matter!
I think it’s a large (and growing) number of people that in real life are are relative failures and wouldn’t EVER say or do anything that would put them at risk of confrontation. The internet gives them an opportunity to be what they aren’t. This isn’t unique to Forza but unfortunately racing games are amongst the easiest to sabotage. They’re usually rubbish at the game as well. It’s been getting worse over the years and anyone new to the franchise is as likely to adopt they’re habits as they are those of people trying to race properly. There isn’t an easy fix but hopefully many will get bored and go back to licking windows or pulling the wings off flys over the coming weeks.
I do it because I am not that great of a driver anymore. I’m older, so I get a little desperate trying to keep up with the other drivers. This shows when I give too much gas on the straight way, before a turn and then don’t slow down fast enough. I end up using other cars as a guard rail to help bounce me around a corner. Sometimes, when I see a driver sneaking up on me, I will nudge them into an obstacle or something so they can’t pass. I also perform the PIT maneuver on drivers who are in my way just weaving side-to-side in front of me.
Before you start flaming me, know that I no longer play multiplayer. Like I said, I’m older, I have a lot of pains in my hands, wrists, & fingers, and don’t have the reflexes I had as a young gamer, so playing against real people isn’t really a possibility for me anymore. I also have responsibilities and can’t sit and practice a game for 12 hours a day, knowing that someone else will bring food to me, and pay all of my bills.
Anyway, there is my answer as to why I will wreck someone or use them as a means to get around a sharp curve. I’m not a sociopath… just an old gamer has-been, struggling to hold onto that last bit of “gaming glory” he can before he has to hang up the joystick for good.
There are two types of “crashers” in a Public Lobby: intentional, and unintentional.
The intentional ones are obvious; they approach corners at full speed, weave about the track and occasionally drive the wrong way. For them I would suspect that traditional racing is not fun (or they simply don’t have the skill/patience to do it right), so they make their own fun which unfortunately comes at the expense of the rest of us.
The unintentional ones are more common but also more unpredictable as there are many ways to accidentally collide into somebody. A lot of these will come down to driver error, be it overstepping the braking point, getting hit by another car, getting on the throttle too early, being unfamiliar with a track layout or simply not being able to see the cars on either side of them (this is why I use Chase Far camera online). There is also an over-reliance on the Racing Line assist which subconsciously makes a driver think that hitting the markers is the fastest way around a corner in a non-hotlapping environment.
When you know what to expect, react accordingly and have a slice of luck on your side all of these drivers become a non-issue, and you can quickly get to the front where a clean battle is almost guaranteed To that effect, here is a clip of me gaining 21 places in less than a minute.
Most crashers are going to be either little kids, or loser sociopaths with no friends. Control freaks, sore losers, general mean streak type people.
Like someone else said, you won’t get insight from these people for several reasons.
For one, kids are kids. They don’t make sense anyway. Lol.
For the older group…
They aren’t available for comment because they act like this in all areas of life. They’re losers and nobody likes them because of their poor attitudes, so they have nobody to speak to and don’t care to do so. If they were here, they’d be banned shortly.
Also they won’t give real explanations because they can’t. They know they’re wrong and acting like sad, pathetic fools. These are the kind of people that when you ask for an explanation they go on instant offense, and will attack you personally in anger because their wrongdoings are being confronted, or try to change the subject completely. 9 times out of 10 these types cannot be convinced that they are doing wrong, and they certainly won’t admit it, and are even LESS likely to apologize and attempt to change their ways. ESPECIALLY when there are no consequences. This isn’t just a fact of the gaming world, this affects the entire world and all of society. People become more and more horrible every day because they’re brought into this world and raised without ever suffering genuine consequence for immorality, evil, or any general wrongs. If a kid takes to his parents walls with permanent marker, makes fun of old people or trips them in public or something, general disrespect, throws tantrums, breaks things, etc… If he does any of these small amount of examples without receiving anything more than being “sent to his room”, given some small “time out”, taking away a toy temporarily, or even worse, some silly psychology nonsense like “tell me why you’re angry” (followed by adult explanation as to why is wrong, that brats can’t understand), they are NOT going to learn anything. They will do it again, they will ignore you, or at best they’ll simply find a way around whatever you’ve done.
If they are subject to actual consequence, like a good old fashioned butt whipping, it will stick with them, and they won’t do it again. Or at least not many more times… and eventually they will fall into the habit of not doing it anymore. It’s not abuse, and it doesn’t cause any physical harm other than very temporary pain. But it is just enough to stick in their minds that they don’t want that to happen again. Implement this early, and consistently with their mistakes and wrongdoings, and they learn respect, responsibility, and decency.
Surely people see the correlation between the unsettling rise in terrible children and young adults, and the phasing out of real discipline/corporal punishment. It’s not a coincidence. Spoiled, undisciplined children grow up to be horrible people.
Or crashers, in this case. Start giving people HEFTY bans from online Forza for this behavior and I betcha crashers start going away.
Congratulations! This is one of the most intelligent posts that I have ever seen online. Unfortunately we live in a world today filled with stubborn fools that will not listen to anybody. America the land where everybody is always right! “A wise man loves the one who rebukes him while a fool scoffs at him.” I will just add this. There is going to be a lot of accidental crashing when you have 24 cars on a track and only have three laps to race. This is just plain stupid by Turn 10 to have such big lobbies and such short races. What is also as bad as the wreckers are the elitist who think that they should finish first in ever race and that all of the slower players should realize their greatness and get out of the way. The elitist who yell and scream even when they are accidentally hit. Yes, Forza 4 was better when you could force off assists and set collisions to realistic. Wreckers only got in one good wreck this way.
Don’t BAN them… Forza 4 had this great game type called tag virus on full race tracks. Then they could dive bomb and have the high speed crashes that they want. Putting them in a 1/4 X 1/4 mile square isn’t going to get them the crashes they want.
Turn 10 make tag virus on All race tracks like Forza 4. This is my two cents and opinion.
The server/host can detect when a collision is imminent and remove that offending car from the track before it happens.
The server/host can detect when a collision is imminent and apply the brakes to the offender.
The server/host can put clean drivers together.
There are loads of way M$ won’t fix their online play, don’t bother thinking about it and stop wasting money on xbox live because they won’t do a thing to stop cheating/griefers/lamers, etc.
Would love to think they put the crashers together, but sadly they are not. what I cant understand is how they can regulate this, yes you have your stats (major accidents/collisions) but surely when someone takes me out doing 100+ on a 30 turn, that will also show in my stats as a major incident.
Remember if you come across a chronic crasher REPORT AND BLOCK THEM. (unsporting behaviour) and put “Crasher forza 6” in the report box. You do not have a right to complain if you do not do this only the community working together to pull out the weeds will clean it up, was the same in 2,3,4,5 and 6. REPORT AND BLOCK.
Thank you for all your replies. All of the above pretty much concurs with what I already knew or suspected. What really makes me curious is why someone would pay to act in this way.
I really would like someone to tell me why they spend money - and not a small sum at that - to act anti-socially. Being anti-social, for the most part, is free. Chuck a brick through a window, shout at random people in the street, steal things, keying cars; all free.
Who the hell decides to pay to be anti-social. Who actually goes through a thought process of “Great, Forza 6 is out. I’m going straight out to buy it just so I can cause a little bit of misery to the lives of people I have never met.”. Just wow.
Please crashers, if you read this forum - assuming you can read -, then please, let me know.
Again thanks for the replies from the people who have taken the time to do so.
Some one that doesnt care about others having fun i.e a 2 year old.
Lardycake you asked about the psychology and there is some good research on why people troll. I’ve asked myself the same question many times and decided to find out more. A lot of people in this thread are pretty much on the money anyway, low self esteem, anonymity, a chance to hit back at an unfair world, as they see, it all plays a part. Like others here I’m too long in the tooth to get upset about it and race clean regardless.
If you want to read more Backstabbers and Bullies by Adrian Furnham is an excellent and has a whole chapter specifically about online trolls. There are more type of troll than you might realise too. The more worrying trend is that they start out with low level trolling and often go on to cyber crime.
If you really want the in depth view and a remarkable read look up Kevin Dutton the Cambridge Uni prof and his work on psychopaths. What we are seeing online is basically unrestrained psychopathic traits because there is no consequence - something I will come back to in moment.
Then we have to factor in other societal factors and problems. Firstly who has all the time to play - the un or under employed. Unemployment is well associated with low self worth and pointlessness. I feel for anyone who is genuinely unemployed or can’t find good work. I doubt you’ll find too many well adjusted, working people acting as trolls - though it can happen if work or home life is a bad situation.
Then we have the much bigger problem of both legal and illegal drugs. Lets start with just the legal drugs recent figures say 25% of the UK population take anti depressants, these pills have questionable validity (if you read the research it is shocking) and some nasty side effects and could well be a factor in the unusual behaviour we see online. Illegal drugs are a much bigger problem - add nothing to do all day, pointless life and add illegal drugs and you can start to understand possible causes of what you see online.
So finally to answer your question why do they do it? Because they can. It annoys the rest of us because of basic brain structure. Long before rules and laws were invented the human brain had a system in place to keep free loaders and rule breakers in check. Society couldn’t afford to have takers who did not contribute, ate all the food etc. If the brain sees a freeloader (how much does a mate who never gets his round in annoy?!) or rule breaker we are triggered to want to do something about it. This is the way society kept behaviour in check and functioning. In Forza 6 online we can do nothing to solve the problem leaving those who want to keep reasonable rules in place powerless. This means there is no consequence for those acting out and the rest of us feel outraged as there is no check or balance. Oh and the natural brain response to unfairness is to seek revenge, I’d say avoid that if you can but if you’ve found yourself feeling that way toward the crashers it’s natural just try to restrain it!
Thanks for the reply. I’ll look up Backstabbers and Bullies (sounds like the title of a team meeting at my work). Everything in your reply rings true, sadly. May be Turn 10 could integrate some form of psych evaluation into Forza, and upon loading for the first time, should you fail, it would then delete the game from your drive and refund you the money (minus an admin charge, obviously)
It’s a shame that one of these crashers couldn’t take some time out from wrecking my car and pop in just to give their side of events. But at you have pointed out, their justifications would probably be as pointless and annoying as their driving.
Thanks mate
At the opposite end of the scale there are also the elitists who appear a lot in the pinnacle league at the mo.
They assume they are faster than you and force their way through the pack in spaces that dont exist then call foul on you when it causes them to crash. I got sent about 20 abusive messages from one guy the other week who rear ended me off the track at full throttle, he claimed it was because I cut a corner… I actually cut the corner because he span off the track, came back on without looking behind him and forced me to manoeuvre around him.
In his messages he was shouting how I was in the wrong league and I need to check the leaderboards to see I’m not fast enough, I was actually faster than him on every track I checked.
Makes me wonder if he thought being in the ‘pinnacle’ league made him special some how.
Yep this is a different type of online troll - the online narcissist who sees only perfection in themselves and nothing wrong with their actions. There are many types out there.
I think single player is the cause of most of these types, they get used to always winning and then go online and think they will win every race. As you’ve already discussed in other replies the best racers wait for a real gap and realise even when you are faster actually passing still takes skill.
Yeah, have come across this in the hoppers. Although a different justification is given for their behaviour, it is still just as annoying. Had someone scream at me recently for being in front of him and ruining his clean lap. “Wow, sorry mate. Just let me know when you’re catching me up and I’ll quit out for you. Your clean lap is way more important than my fun.”
That’s not to say I’m not competitive (I am, very) but I get just as much satisfaction out of passing cars cleanly and fairly and move to 6th or 7th from the back of the grid as I do from leading from the front to win.
Having said all of this, I had a really good couple of hours of genuine racing last night in a D lobby with some really good and clean drivers, so thanks to them for that.
The best racers are happy to sit behind people who are a little slower than them until an actual space opens up because thats how racing works… I guess some people just think they HAVE to win every race or its not fun.
Having said that, I have had a lot of good races in the league with people who know how to be patient and give space but theres always one who causes trouble.
I suspect in my case he rear-ended me because I overtook him and he didnt like being behind, he just needed justification for ramming me off… I find the the attitude of ‘I’m better than you get out of my way’ more obnoxious than people who crash because they cant keep up, especially when said elitists are actually slower than you are!
The public lobbies are a joke on this game, probably the worst I have ever seen which is a real shame, i have only played a few public games and every one of them is a crash fest which is why i will only play private games but these only have a few of us in them.

I’ve found that between 4pm and 9pm in the UK it can be unbearable, but after that it seems to quieten down a bit. I guess the trolls all go to play FIFA at that time. Or go to bed.
