What happened to Forza?

I’m a long time Gran Turismo fan but GT5 and GT6 left me empty with a lack of options for the single player, being restricted in what you could do in so much as creating races, problems finding races for specific cars in the career, racing what you wanted against specific cars on specific tracks etc. it all just doesn’t exist and makes the experience very restricted.

What I loved about FM3 and FM4 was the freedom to create what ever race you wanted, you could set up several AI in whatever cars you wanted on whatever track you wanted.
FM5 has none of this it’s gone down the GT path by letting you select a car and a track and hey presto they choose the cars for you, so now for example i’m running an 800pt car against 700-750pt cars of whatever Forza deems, totally pointless and almost on the same level of boredom that GT brings, at least there is a grid start in FM.

I’m extremely disappointed in this backwards step, why couldn’t they keep it, or you know improvise a bit and improve on it by allowing your garage cars with liveries to be chosen for AI as well, this could make some fantastic races online with few players such as dedicated WTCC races with exact liveries etc. As it happens single player has gone backwards and don’t even get me started on how unkempt and unfriendly the menus are.

I hate ranting on such a much loved product but I just don’t understand why take away features that made previous versions much more enjoyable and, key, accessible.

as much as i dislike forza 5 i have to admit i do like playing career mode for a short while eg. a few 2/3 lap races for 30-45mins etc, then doing something else before boredom or something else creeps in

the way i look at it is that the had to build the game from ground up for the xbox one and they cut features to make the deadline

and they added silly features that no one cares about - i mean autovista for every car? who cares about that? its not germaine to the actual gameplay

theres a famous line from a favorite movie of mine… “you know if we go about doing this, we’re going to create a fair bit of animosity from the people there” and this is what I think turn 10 realised when they released it - but there was a deadline and that was that

and now a year later, the reviews and general feeling about it says it all

i’m sure turn 10 staff are sick of hearing it but this is going to be how people will remember it

eg. I like Gran Turismo 5 but obviously there was so much controversy about how it arrived late and ended early that it will forever be remember for the wrong things

and thats how Forza 5 will be remembered… everyone loves Forza 4 and the two Horizons, not every game is going to slay them in the aisles

the other way would have been to release Forza 5 a year later and the Xbox one would have debuted with NO driving IP and that wouldnt have been good either (which is exactly how the other console did it)

let it go, people

That is exactly what I thought. A launch title for a brand new console. Pretty much every launch title for this generation was disappointing in some way. Not to mention that this was the year of unfinished games, and so many of them.

I bought Xbox One three weeks ago, so I already knew what to expect from FM5, I would probably be disappointed if I had gotten it at launch.

However, looking at Forza Horizon 2, I am confident Forza 6 will be a great game. The difference between FM2 and FM3 was gigantic, and FM4 was just the ultimate version of what could have been achieved on the 360. Turn 10 have a lot of time to polish FM6, and I am sure their experience will be seen in the final product.

But I think this is the last opportunity for them to add weather effects and night racing. If they do not, the series might retire, because the competition will simply outrun them.

I don’t have to “let it go” as you say. Support for this game is sub-par at best. I mean here we are 10-11 months away from the next installment(based on the 2 year cycle) and we still can not 100% sync our drivatar thingy. Sad thing is about this situation is the drivatar thing was one of the “big” selling points about how awesome the cloud power is. Here we are, all of us still sitting at 95%. I truly hope that Turn10 learned from some of the mistakes they made and give us more freedom and creativity in the next game.

Sync is based on tracks. If you have 95% then your drivatar is 100% synced for all circuit layouts. The calculation, in error, includes those TAG tracks where there are no lap times to be set from what I’ve been able top understand.

100% sync though is still meaningless. The whole drivatar thing is pretty much pointless since you can’t see your drivatar in action or control it in any way. You’re left to assume as you get better that your drivatar gets better but there is no way to prove it outside of small credit payouts . You can literally crash and bang your way to 95% sync lol.

I 100% agree with you. The point is this. They updated the game a few times and never fixed this. It could of been something as easy as adding code to change the 95 to 100. The other one that does bug me every time I play is the fact that I have to reset my wheel degree to 540. Yet another know issue that went unfixed. I do think the free tracks makes up for a lot of the short falls but this (wheel issue) was known about in FM4 and it still didn’t get fixed.

I do hope they revamp the drivatar thing thought it’s current sate is a joke…

so dont let it go and get ignored by turn 10

good luck with your bitterness and wanting something you’ll never get

sell the game if it upsets you so much

i’m sure the $10 you get for it will be used more wisely next time

Who said I was upset or frustrated to the point of selling the game. I won’t let it go because even now this late in the game I’m willing to post in threads like this to show my support of others that might of just gotten the game. You my fellow racer seem to be the one bothered about us supporting each other and expressing our feeling about stuff that has been left behind.

im with you, this game is subpar

i’m not just bothered enough to get upset about a game i bought for $20 and realise that one year later, its dead

i think the moderators here are gracious enough to let these conversations persist on what is a microsoft website

what exactly do you want? an apology from Dan?

what you want isnt going to happen… so get rid of the game if it pains you so much

its obvious that Forza 6 is whats theyre focussing on so all this whining isnt going to amount to anything but hey, whine away, i want to here more of what wont ever get fixed

View each section of these fporums as a big wishlist for the next game.

What is wrong with FM5? - post about it in a civil manner and hope it gets fixed in FM6

The moderators and gracious should not be put in the same sentence. in comparison to other forums I’ve been a member on, this place is dead. I see more locked threads then on any other forum I’ve been apart of, more merges then any other forum, and the least active forum that I’ve ever been on. All I see here is people blowing smoke up T10’s behind, and those who don’t… locked

I’ve also been a long time forza fan and i’m blown away how awful F5 is.

F3 was AMAZING imho i loved the epic Gran Tourismo style endurance races, i upgraded to 4 where everything looked better and was a pretty good game, sadly they killed the endurance races much to my disappointment.

And having played an hour or so on F5 i’m glad it was a free game as i can now delete it from my xbone. It looks great the cars handle well, the force feedback is really awesome, but 5 is a shell of what forza once was. I bought the xbone to continue playing forza but this incarnation is awful its totally gone down the GT road and i hate it.

FH i really didn’t like it was too sandboxed for me, is FH2 any better? I love endurance racing, and the full Nurburgring, Amalfi coast & the mount fuji (i think the epic japanese course)

The part that definitely improved, IMO, is the physics. I love it. The accuracy of the tracks are also +++. Everything else, is subjective.

Agree.

I hope they carry on with the same physics engine and improve upon in the future but do something about tcs and drag tyres. They seriously overpowered and let people get away with murder. Imo.

I also think the last few car packs were epic and brought alot of much needed new blood. Just make them free from the start and not dlc, as this infuriates people like myself.

I completley agree the physics are great but the whole tcs craze has ruined the game.

I just bought a Gaming-PC for playing sim-racers and now i can compare a little. The physics are good, but the grip is more like driving on a wet road. FM5 compensates that with cars, that are to overpowered in terms of speed. So in the end you get proper lap times with unrealistic car behaviour. I fell in love with RaceRoom Racing Experience (R3E in short), which is by far better in physics, racing realism, force feedback, even track accuracy and AI.

In terms of game options Turn 10 should go with Project Cars, which is IMHO behind FM 5, when it comes to physics and even graphics. But the FFB in FM 5 is the best for feeling springs and dampers settings. In other games it´s more about feeling the road surface.

I think we are on same frequency. Forza has very good physics so T10 just needs to expand on more tracks, provide a more compelling career, and focus on competitive racing, on or offline.

When the car packs had new cars (to the franchise) I purchased them but I refuse to buy any cars that were released in previous iterations. I WILL buy new cars to the series. I will NOT pay for previously released cars.

I’ve lost faith in GT series after #4 because the series was becoming monotnous. FM1/2 was a breath of fresh air at that time. FM now also feel stagnant, just as GT4 was. PCARS will play a key role in the future direction of console racing. PCARS is riding on poor legacy of SHIFT 1/2 and Ferrari Racing Legends so I’m holding my breath but so far SMS has done everything right for the serious (!) console racers.

T10 must take heed.

I love Forza 5 and played over 200 hours in 3 months, but yesterday I ordered my gaming pc, because I want more tracks, more weather-conditions and better bump-response with my TX-wheel. And when you beat the AI on unbeatable after a few corners, like in the free mode and just have cars behind you and sometimes one in the front far away, it’s not real racing. There could be so many things better with some updates, like a customizable amount of laps in the career mode, but there are no updates, nothing. There aren’t even rumours about Forza 6 let alone news. So maybe there’s something planned, but who knows. Forza 5 could be so much better just with some minor improvements for more customization. I want a real sim-experience and soon check out, what a strong PC have to offer. Assetto Corsa is out now and the first game I will install.

I only have this problem, when I unplugged the TX before the next start, USB or AC doesn’t matter. If I just shut down the Xbox everything is fine and it’s a real shut down, not this stand-by mode You installed the latest firmware? There’s a new one since two weeks, but I didn’t installed this already. And it’s better to change the settings with the wheel instead the menu.

Wait - I played GT5 and GT6. I only recall rolling starts in GT5 but i’m sure GT6 had (or still has but I sold it and my PS3 becuase of the pitstop bug and other issues) standing starts. No?

My dissapointment in such a game (all be it the first on XB1) is what it lacks full stop, granted as said (it is the first on XB1) so not sure what there goal was exactly.

But with that being said ill list what and why below

1: Single player racing has been aborted due to drivatars, why … Because honestly its not racing when you have to ram your way to the front because the drivatars picked up the so called human players actions, how can you defend a game that leaves you mind blown at being purposely rammed off at near on the same point at every restart. Mainly because your cars been ruined (damaged beyond race capabilities) by the same car / cars, how do you expect to recreate realistic feats when if you do the game cant be played just leaves you feeling cheated and frustrated.

2: Online MP, why … Because there are no assurances when you get in your not going to be with idiots, i can guarantee you every race has at least 1 if not more idiots that ram (or more to the point) jump in just to annoy everyone else because they think its funny to ruin a game for others.

People say find another lobby if you dont like it but every lobby is the same, so how does that work ?

3: Online MP, why … Because of the cars (IE) classes for eg we have R Class thats fine but then since when has formula 1 or indy GP cars been on the same track as a Aston Martin DB9 GT race car ?

There choosing cars that may or may not have better handling capabilities and or speeds, so what now im forced to drive a car that i have no interest in ? If i wanted formula 1 racing i would have waited till one was released for XB1 and forgot about forza fullstop.

4: Online MP, why … Because of lobby set up no one ever votes out the so called idiots, some still do not even know how or where to find it (not to mention the obvious issue) of being kicked if you do try to vote out a persons or people

5: Online MP, why … Because it used to be that you would find a lobby that you would get in and either be able to start the race with everyone else from get go or maybe wait one lap before you could start.
But now i have lost count more specificaly at how it chooses your lobby, you get in choose your car, everyone seems like your about ready to jump into a race but no everyone else has gone in your left sat in a lobby with anything between 3 laps and 12 - 13 if its enurance R Class.
Why would i want to sit there for half an hour waiting for everyone else to get out ?

6: And final pointer, in one way or another i spent a lot of money on Forza 5 first port of call obviously was the XB1 itself, or i wouldnt be able to even entertain FORZA full stop. mine was just under £600 now bought and payed for thankfully (had to buy through catalogue) no choice didnt have cash for outright.

I then bought VIP & car pack / packs pretty much everything FM5 has to offer from the game itself, i figured you know what i love forza more specificaly i love what forza 2 & 4 were PVT lobbys for your desired race preference where the lobby leaders could kick idiots if need be, well that was for 360 for which i never had a Race Wheel.

So i bought the thrustmaster TX Ferrari 458 italia it cost me £375 again from catalogue, i figured i payed a fair bit to play this game if i am going to get one no point getting a crappy cheap one so i went all out.

Heres the point i am trying to make with all these problems, why in the HELL did i pay out all this money to be so dissapointed ?
Even if i sold it i would never get back what i struggled my nut sac off to pay for, so i could enjoy racing at its most extreme in the best most realistic enjoyable way possible.

And every time i open my mouth to say something like this i get shut down, where does that seem like an ok thing to do, and where do people get off saying things like well sell it then if its that much of a dissapointment. what do you suppose i do with my wheel etc play horizon, or the crew ?
Both of which dont even touch the sides of what FM has to offer, more over why should i be forced too for the above reasons ?
