Thing is, I have a specific reason for going “hardcore” – Forza 5 is my driving school. I never played Forza 2, 3, or 4. So, I want to learn how to race from the ground up and I figure the best way to do that is take off the assists and learn through trial and error. Some people have this misconception that you cannot post great times with the assists on. That’s not true - you can get well into the top 500 on a major track running full assists. But, eventually, running full assists will hold you back because you just won’t learn certain skills with them on (I.E. brake/accelerator feathering).

Manual w/o clutch
Normal steering
Braking line
TCS on DW12 road courses only. Lights up the tires way to much.

Turned off ABS back in Forza 3 and been faster ever since.

Controller still :frowning:

ABS off
STM off
TCS off mosttly, race cars, hypercars TCS on
Man w clutch
Sim steering
No driving line

And for driving view, I am mostly in Bonnet. I will drive slower cars in cockpit view.

Thrustmaster TX wheel

Manual no clutch
Normal steering
No break assist
No TCS/STM except for higher class cars
Braking line

Transmission:
Manual w/o clutch - all-round
Manual w/ clutch - drag racing

ABS - Off
TCS - Off ( On for certain occasions)
STM - Off
Line - None
Steering - Normal

Controller

I drive manual/ no clutch.
No brake line. You learn the track more completely this way.
All assists off all the time, regardless the power of the car. It’s the best way to learn the car. Your reaction time is usually faster than an assist reacts, but you have to learn this.

Manual with clutch
No abs
TCS mostly off
No STM
Full line
Normal Steering
Controller

Manual no clutch (too goofy with my button layout)
SIM Steering
Brake line only
Nothing else

Normal steering no clutch manual and the braking line. Tcs sometimes goes on if im doing rivals in a car I cant tune.

Normal steering, I always race in cockpit view with everything on my hud shut off except for my tachometer as well.

abs off
sim steering
stm off
tcs on mostly
automatic but mechbergs challenge got me using manual no clutch
brake line
controller

I’m not that good of a driver so I have all the assists on.

No assist

Drivatars @ pro or unbeatable (occasionally expert)- I like my racing games to be challenging.

Try swapping handbrake and clutch in your controller settings. With most layouts, this will result in clutch assigned to the “A” button. You can then mash “A” along with “X” or “B” as if it were a single button, most ppl’s rt. thumbs are large enough to do this. Perfect for powershifting!

Manual w/clutch (be sure to switch the clutch to the a button)
brake line (because my vision isnt the greatest and I have trouble picking out visual cues while driving)
TCS on

I Always drive in cockpit view just because its more immersive for me. I found when I go head to head with my son and it FORCES me to use the follow camera he smears me every time… I can do all right with the hood cam view too.

pretty much all, except the ugly racing line :))

TCS
ABS
Brake line
man/no clutch

I can and have gone assistless and been faster. Most I use to keep myself from being a nuisance in lobbies. Keeping my mistakes to a minimum to keep from wrecking others. I’d rather lose a place or two and not grief the lobby.
I’ve tried to go clutch but no setup seems to work for a smooth shift for me.

Manual with clutch
ABS off
TCS off
STM off

I use brake line because I it’s just another environmental braking point for me. I don’t usually listen to it though as it’s not always the best to obey. Usually I use it the first lap, and then weed out the points that I can brake later on which are usually most points.

As for normal steering, I have always felt that it’s for a steering wheel which is what it was intended for, so I won’t use it until I get a wheel.
