Well I'm not that great at Forza but

So I pick up Forza every now and then. Race a few career races. Play in the leagues a bit. I’m not terrible. I can drive the cars around the tracks without crashing. I like to turn off things like assisted breaking/steering/navigation aids so that it’s a bit more realistic. Those make me slower since I’m not a good enough racer to be faster without them but well, it’s more fun for me.

Anyway… point of all this is I had someone start sending me bullying messages during a league session. I guess they were perturbed that I bumped them on a corner.

So, question is, aren’t the leagues supposed to place you with racers similar to your skill level? I log in and lose pretty much every race. I did get 7th out of 9 once the other day but mostly I get passed and sometimes even lapped on short tracks with lots of laps. I’m trying to figure out if I’m really just the most terrible person online. To give you an idea of my level, I can win career races with player skill set to Average. If I set it to Above Average there are some tracks I can win and some that I can do 5th-6th and a few that I’m not so great at. (And I can win the Indianapolis donut track on any skill level  ).

Maybe I just ran into a particularly bad apple online. His username did have the word poo in it. lol.

To hold your own in MP you’d really have to get a bit quicker. It’s not a case of you being a bad player though, it’s simply a case of practice and in terms of cars and tunes, experimentation. In a league race you’ll probably find yourself up against people who’ve logged many more (possibly hundres) hours on the game.

I know your pain. I can hit top 1% times on leaderboards in my own tunes with no assists but if I go online I’ll meet that other 1% that can beat me. I usually still do pretty well, podiums most of the time, but there are a lot of players online who can make you look like a fool. The point I’m trying to make is is that the majority of competitive players online are very good because they are always playing. If you don’t mind losing and try to race cleanly then online racing is still a ton of fun.

First of all sucks to hear that you got a nasty email, I hope you reported it.

as for the question, its just practice, the AI cars drive differently to people online. the only was to get faster is to practice which is something that takes time (that not everyone has). I know that you prefer to not use the assists but they are there to help ( braking line is helpful, although mostly wrong). and a way to get faster is try looking at the rivals board and seeing other drivers drive round a track, watch for braking points and speeds in to corners and try to emulate it.

you are correct though, the leagues do try and put you in but the method that you’re placed in them is a little complicated to explain ( at least for me to explain, I don’t understand myself)

Just practice and focus. You always run into others that think they are better than anyone else and that everyone should get out of their way. Just remember faster racers do not own the track. Do your best and be sure you are not trying too hard as to crash other racers. I found the main thing to racing is" Focus". You must be entirely focused on what is around you and in front of you. Get to know all your tracks so as if you can race them in your sleep. If you are truly interested in Forza Motorsport Racing, you will get better. If you get bullying messages report them to Xbox under report message. Accidents happen and there is no reason for someone being a bully.

Assisted braking and steering make everyone slower.

Use of STM makes you slower and doesn’t provide much if any benefit. Cars will turn better with it off.

Use of auto will make you slower in every class except the top two.

TCS on will make you slower in just about every car in A class or lower and in some R and S class cars.

Braking line can help with consistency of braking especially when racing close quarters. I’d suggest turning that on until you master the tracks.

With that said, if you’re in Grassroots league, there is no dropping to a lower league. This is the lowest skill level league and as such has large variations in skill level.

Logical car and tune choices are key in forza. I can destroy a D class lobby at will but if I select a car with a build that doesn’t mesh with a track or is tuned badly, the results can vary widely. If I jump into an R class lobby with a #1 tune, I’ll get beat easily. I’m just not well versed in that class and my skill level isn’t up to par.

You’ll need to figure out which classes fit your skill set and you’ll need good builds on cars.

It’s also worth noting that many people on the forums have noted relative ease in beating unbeatable and pro drivatars in career races. You’ll meet a lot of crazy fast people.

This is what makes Forza hard and addicting. The level of skill needed is high but also not unobtainable.

Well said Swerve.

One thing I will say is that people who send bullying messages on Forza usually end up lacking in racing etiquette themselves. You will always come across somebody who will be mad at you for something no matter how clean you race. Just focus on improving your skill and ignore the haters :).

Another problem is perspective and lag. You may think you own the line think you cleared them when some is a few feet more is actually side by side to you. Or generally closer than you think. Add to the fact T10 shoehorned 24 cars on the track with 2 laps to go, make everybody get too aggressive. It makes for alot of hurt feelings.

Were you using a mic? A quick apology and some friendly conversation often goes a long way. There are so many idiots on line that sometimes people just assume the worst right away. Of course, the apology will count for nothing with them…

Sucks that you got a nasty mail. Some people just aren’t very nice. Just keep practicing man. You’re going about it the right way using little assists. Try getting used to ABS, STM and TCS off… they’ll really help. I would recommend getting a car you really like in something like D class, get used to tuning and then working you’re way up from there… You’re doing great man!

Just keep going bud I was like that at the start and thought every car I used was full of sand bags, I got beat a lot, and still get beat a lot now but I know my tracks kind of now and am getting faster all the time , as others have said assists off do help a lot and once you get used to this you get more involved in the game. Also use rivals and chase ghosts this helped me a lot.

If I make a mistake I tend to apologise after the race with a quick message , sometimes you get a reply of “no problem” others don’t reply , but report bullies, I have not had this but bullies are usually insecure and you should try and take it with a pinch of salt. All the best mate
