New to Forza.

I got a Xbox One for the family for Christmas. We have always had Playstation’s so this is our first Xbox. This is also my first time playing any Forza game. I am enjoying it so far except for the online. I am getting the impression that half the people that play online think the objective is to see how many people you can crash in a race. Is it always as bad as I am experiencing?

I don’t want to sound too pessimistic but it quite often is that bad in public lobbies.
Best bet is to try and find some people of your own ability through either the forums or people you find online who play fair. Then do private races together. Plus free play with drivatars can be alright, it also gives you an option of rewinding if a drivatar does something stupid

I have heard League play is better I am new also.

There are races in league play with collisions off. They are called ghost races.

Try the ghost league where there are no collisions. The downside is that leagues are only open at certain times for racing.

Thanks for the responses. I may have to try out league play. Nine times out of ten when I get in a generic multiplayer I get wrecked multiple times in a game. The sad part about it is, I am new to the game and not very good yet and usually in the back of the pack. It doesn’t seem to matter to some people. They will wreck you even though both of us are the last two cars. I was in last place last night in one race, the guy in front of me lost control of his car by himself and I went past him. The next thing I know, he hits me in a turn without ever hitting his brakes to intentionally wreck me. I guess just so he wouldn’t be in last place, even though time was still going to run out and neither of us was close to even finishing the race. I don’t understand the mentality of some people.

Heres my suggestion.Stay away from multiplayer until you are much better at handling the cars.Able to save yourself from spinning etc… If you dont have a solid grip on playing the game you will have a horrible time in multiplayer.3/4 of multiplayer is knowing other players tendencies.Meaning knowing that they are going to slam into you from behind enetering a corner and knowing how to avoid letting that happen.Im contantly looking backwards to see whos going to try and slam me next. Its quite funny watching someone who tried to slam you at 150 mph and misses and goes into a wall.Seriously, stay offline until you are much better or you will just get more and more agrivated because the online experience is all about avoiding wreckers.Leagues arent much better unless its private.Ghost league is an option but thats not racing, thats just hotlapping and imo not much fun.Not much skill needed for that.No overtaking skills needed at all.

I’m pretty new to Forza myself. I honestly have no intention or motivation of/for playing a multiplayer game because of what I keep hearing. Personally, racing around in different cars in free play is fun for me, but admittedly, it can get somewhat dull at times.

Some people just like to ruin the fun for others. I’m sure other games have similar issues in their communities.

As others have said, deliberate crashing is pretty common behavior in the public multiplayer lobbies, and yes, they’ll come after you no matter what your skill level. It’s disappointing, but sometimes that’s life online.

In addition to the Leagues people have mentioned, you may want to look around these forums for racing groups and partners–there are lots of people seeking clean, dedicated racers, and they often set up private lobbies so a group of people who actually want to play (not just crash) can run together. Take the time to get a feel for these groups, as some will expect those who join to already be at a high skill level (or at least able to control the car consistently), while others are more open towards drivers of varying skills. I’ve had good luck with Gamerz League Central, which has been quite welcoming towards newer drivers (such as me!).

As Rain says finding a good group is your best bet.

I have been running TVRF for a while now and our racing series are regulated so wreckers don’t get the chance to wreck.
We hold series on a few nights of the week but dont ask you to turn up every week only as and when you can, we have a good core of drivers but are always happy to have more clean drivers join us.

Ghost leagues are your best choice, especially when it comes to learning how to race. Time trials can get the basics down for you, but when you’re in a race against other people it can change the game completely. Lapping under pressure is a great teaching tool. In time trials you might also have a tendency to just get in one fast lap, but in a race you’ll learn that consistency gets better placing.

The biggest issue you’ll deal with in ghost leagues are corner cutters. Some tracks invite lopping off huge chunks of track to gain an edge. I run clean laps as often as I can, and if I don’t get one clean lap in I’ll concede the lead to who ever is behind me. Call me old fashioned but winning by cheating isn’t winning - it’s just a cheap way to coddle someone’s insatiable ego. I know naming and shaming is discouraged here, but I have a list of cheaters I try to avoid if I see them.

I’ve raced in full contact league races and for the most part it can be rewarding, but all it takes is one idiot to ruin the entire race. Once that first blatant ramming incident occurs it seems to incite everyone to start a demolition derby (it can be difficult to figure out who hit you, and if it was or wasn’t an honest mistake). When you do find a clean race it’s really fun. I’ve been stuck back in the pack dicing with three other racers and even though we may touch or rub, we never ruin the race for each other and it’s quite rewarding even if you’re no where near the front.

Welcome to Forza, FozzieBear317! Everybody above has given you some good insight on multiplayer racing, so I’ll leave it at that and, of course, let us know if you have any other questions as you go along.
