After Update 9 everything is still a construction site… the AI is still unacceptable. There is still pushing, shoving and the AI drivers as if the player is not there. I’ve now driven two races but nothing at all has changed in the behavior of the AI. What do you have to do to finally address this issue? It can’t be that the AI pushes another AI driver off the track, who then drives into your car and you get penalized for it.
New tracks? Racing suits? Adjustments to the tracks?
Who cares if the basic things don’t fit.
The same with the arbitrary penalty system. A small bump because you yourself are pushed from behind by the AI can easily result in a 2.5 second penalty. The AI, on the other hand, plows through the field like a rhino gone wild and gets away with it.
How are you supposed to play this game seriously if nothing is done in this area?
It’s simply ridiculous that this game is still being maintained. Throw it in the garbage can, it won’t get any better if they don’t work on the important things like the behavior of the AI. It takes away the seriousness and realism of the whole game if the AI behaves as if there were no rules and the player.
Turn10 in the space of 9 update used two of them to say along the lines of No Track next month as we will be spending the time on the A.I behaviour and something else that I didn’t see any real change, the exact wording is floating around in the monthly notes if anyone would like to waste their time finding them
They should just scrap the A.I system they have in place and replace it with a system that learns your driving behaviour and uses other players Rivals times that are on par with your lap times
That would make for some good single player racing
Apart from the fact that still wouldn’t teach the AI any racecraft, which I think is the bigger problem.
They are totally incapable of driving near each other, let alone the player.
They are so timid and cautious around each other, all trying to be polite and deferential that instead of seizing obvious gaps or lines they instead hit the brakes and you go into the back of them.
Take them offline and they can’t find a way back to the line, even once you’ve passed them so they will enter the next turn on the extreme inside and then slam the brakes on to get around.
And wow can they not drive in the rain.
I did a quick freeplay in Proto H last night at Le Mans. Watching them all outbrake themselves into the chicanes and Mulsanne Corner.
And then the rubber banding. They would recover feom those offs, shoot up to 360ks and pass me on the following straight (I watched replays and looked at their telemetry, it’s insane)
Single Player just isn’t viable for a good experience at the moment.
I was in an endurance race where I had built up a 23 second interval back to second place. There was a string of slower cars that the AI couldn’t navigate and it left me without a blip near me on the mini map. I was just enjoying the drive around the track when I noticed the sounds of other cars as I entered a turn. When I checked the mini map, there was an AI not far behind… a few laps latter I got passed and then I ended up many second behind and finished second. I tried to save the replay but it kept failing and then the game was pretty much toast after that as I tried the next series and only the audio played for the intro video (gray background).
I agree… This is a fundamental of a racing game. And for a game that is in its eighth iteration it should be a bright spot worth bragging about, not something so poorly done it reduces the enjoyability of the gameplay.
I also agree that a developer diplomat should chime in on the issue and let us know exactly what is going on. This is a video game, not a DoD project. Given how loyal so many have been to this franchise the lack of communication is even more unacceptable than the state of the Ai.
If I started on the penalty system I would need another 15 minutes to get it all done… that should about sum up how bad the very basic interactions are. “My car gets pushed into another car and I get a penalty”, says it all.
Hey ya’ll prepare yourself for the rubberband man
You’ve never heard a sound
Like the rubberband man
You’re bound to lose control
When the rubberband starts to jam
Prepare yourself, you’ve been rubberbanded dude! Welcome to 1999 AI technology.
Such as ?
For those who do not do multiplay this is by far the most important thing to fix.
Since FM7 the AI has been an absolute horror show and you say it’s not that important.
What planet are you from ?
They have different departments that work on different things. Just because they add new cars, racing suits and tracks etc. doesn’t mean that they don’t work on the A.I. or other things too. You can’t make a graphic/texture whatever designer work on A.I. code or the other way around.
I mean you also don’t tell a plumber to build a wall, or an electrician to do carpentry work. Or a very extreme example a housekeeping lady to do a surgery. Not everybody can do everything, that is the point. They are hired for one thing maybe two things, but not all things.
They work on all at the same time, but the progress is EXTREMELY SLOW.
