UNACCEPTABLE !

This is outrageous ! Do they learn from their mistakes ? the DL error is unacceptable and outrageous ! the fact this already happened in the past and they can’t even fix their mistakes speaks a lot about them…

I could be ok with an error if the download would carry on from where it got the error, but nooooooo it freaking restart from zero !!! (btw thank you for ruining my ssd lifespan). I can’t even start to understand why it doesn’t carry on from what we already downloaded like every other game service available…

The game is 95gb, I got 3 errors ! and here is how big my download is going to be :

  • 1st error 33 gb
  • 2nd error 60+ gb
  • 3rd error 75 gb

Which makes for a grand total of 263+ gb !!! my internet speed dl is 2MB per second… so you do the math of how long this is going on for !!!

I agree this is [Mod Edit - Abbreviated profanity, profanity and profanity that is disguised but still alludes to the words are not permitted - D] disgraceful. It decided to download 120GB/160GB in one run overnight, while throwing errors early on. Cant believe this. Already used the data allowance up, so no Forza 7 for me now, really really stupid by microsoft and parties, cannot belive how stupid they are, shows how steam romps above them in every single aspect.

What annoyed me more what that it took the developers so long to officially acknowledge the issue and post a sticky in this forum but at least they have now done that, albeit only an hour ago. It should have gone up yesterday though IMO when it became apparent that a growing number of people were having issues. There’s nothing worst than feeling ignored when you’ve just spent £80 on a game.

I have been able to download the 67 GB Xbox One version with no problems at all which makes me wonder if this issue isn’t intentional, to not only provide more server bandwidth for the console version but also to undermine the PC version and make the Xbox One version look like the superior version.

Hey, call me cynical, but the number of times this sort of thing happens with the Windows Store is either down to that or gross incompetence on Microsoft’s part. If they want the Store to be a success on PC then they need to be putting more effort into it to ensure that downloads are as efficient as possible. That means coding a pause/resume option THAT ACTUALLY WORKS, adding some kind of File Verification option to not only pick up where failed downloads left off but all check for corrupted files in downloaded games that may stop working for some reason (no-one wants to have to uininstall and redownload a 95 GB game; certainly not those on non-fibre connections) and, finally, giving up an option to backup/restore installed games. Also useful would be a bandwidth limiter as the Store on my PC loves to hog all the bandwidth leaving nothing for anything else. With those then the Store might actually be borderline acceptable instead of the travesty that it currently is (I can’t help but think of the failed Games for Windows LIVE whenever I use the Store).

Honestly, I have come to a point where I am speechless. Programming a server/ client architecture is not that hard - in fact a corporation the size of Microsoft should be having ZERO issues with something like that. Though they already fail to learn from their past mistakes as apparently the same problem also befell a lot of people when Forza Horizon 3 and GoW4 came out.

1st run 27GB
2nd run 48GB
3rd run 67GB

not including all the times it got to 1-5GBs and reset.

I agree. I have never had a download fail on Steam, Gog, Origin or Uplay. But on windows store it happen more times than not. How is it possible for microsoft fail to set up a reliable download service on their own operating system???

Forza 7 failed twice for me so far and now I only have 46 GB data left to use this month. So bye bye headstart:(

The problem it’s not that fails (Well, yeah, it is), but that it’s failing the same way it did a year ago with FH3 and even before than that with other games… Clock’s ticking against them, and I hope they know that there a lot of angry people (Me included, because of course I cannot download the game)

After 25 gb whit my poor adsl for 3 times and 99€.

you guys read the update Your download will complete when your “Forza Motorsport 7” edition unlocks – this Friday, Sept. 29 for the Ultimate Edition or Oct. 3 for Deluxe and Standard Editions. If you have encountered this issue, we sincerely apologize. Im not sure i understand what they are saying here, so we have to wait until release to start the DL?

first run yesterday-96gb, 3 hours

It really makes no sense. Firstly, why does this download keep on failing? Secondly, why does the download have to start from scratch every time? Why can it not download in blocks and check against the server? Absolutely useless system that is totally unsuitable for a 95GB file.

Why are we once again asked to pay $100 for something that does not work? by the time these issues are fixed even with my fairly fast internet connection I will lose atleast a day of gameplay. Why is this deemed acceptable? I have owned every Forza since 1 purchased special editions for each and yet again here we are with you having my money and me having to go through forums for hours to figure out what is going on.

This will be my last Forza experience.

I requested a refund instead. I am on a metered connection, I can’t spare 200gb+ to lost/incomplete downloads. And it’s doing my SSD no good either to continuously be written on, then lost and repeated over and over.

A total shame, I was so pumped for Forza 7, and the demo only got me more excited. But if this is what I am to expect from Microsoft and Turn 10, I think they can do without my business. I’ll stick to Steam/Uplay/Origin and maybe start getting my games on my PS4 instead. I hate the PS4 controller, but at least the service provided is better than this.

The same issue was present 1 year ago for Forza Horizon 3 on PC and Gears of War 4 on PC.

So a year has passed and this issue remains… and that’s ok?

At least I can download games from Origin and Uplay. Heck, I could hit reset on my PC while downloading games on those clients and I could resume with no data loss. If I pause even for 10 seconds I can lose 80gb of a 95gb download on Windows Store.

The store is missing functionality that comes as standard, this isnt 1997 on dial up when you need to download ‘Get Right’ in order to resume a download.

Well all your credibility went out the window when you’d rather support Ubisoft and EA.

There is one issue that’s been on the store for a day or so and you’re going to get a refund on that? EA and Ubisoft have broken stuff for weeks and you’ll give them money for that? Good job.

The Windows Store, IMO, was never really designed for large downloads but for smaller smartphone type apps and games instead. It is so lacking in comparison to other digital platforms like Steam, UPlay and Origin that it’s embarrassing. I cannot remember the last time I had issues downloading anything from those other services - they’ve been so few - but I can remember issues with almost every single 30+ GB game I’ve downloaded on the Store (Reboot, Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, Gears of War 4, Quantum Break, Halo Wars 2, Forza Horizon 3… all of those have reset part way through downloading and taken more than one attempt to download).

You cannot validate files, you can backup/restore games and you cannot reliably pause or retry downloads either. The Windows Store is just poorly coded IMO.

One Issue for one Day?
Oh no the Windows Store has problems like this often.
I dislike Origin and Uplay but those clients work more often then the windows store

The PR rubbish they have stickied to this forum is even more upsetting imo, blaming peoples computers and internet connections when I can bet you more than the majority of people have good stable internet and never had problems with this game.

The fact they refuse to release it on Steam, or any Forza on Steam is also quite shocking. W10 correctly stated, was never really designed to download huge game but why after so many years it’s not been updated and adjusted to handle the large volume of data transfer these days is quite simply, embarrasing indeed.

Thankfully it was 2nd time lucky for me after i reset the apps+services and uninstalled but for other with terrible internet i feel for them. You can’t verify files or check for corruption, backup games, redirect download, set priorities, set allowances, have a favourites section or even a proper tab for “Installed games” or good catagorisation, it’s a messy mobile store that has the unfortunate disadvantage of full release titles on too. FIX IT PHIL.

My problem is not that we are getting an error… I can live with that. The problem is that it resets the freaking download !!! and that this issue already exsisted in the past and that they didn’t fix it !!

Indeed. Why it just decides to DELETE the entire data from the winapps folder is just ludicrous and invasive. The fact we never really have total control over the files as they are all locked means we can’t even back them up manually and have to resort to alternative methods. I know they wanna prevent piracy etc but the file/folder locking is the real kick in the nuts to us.
