[ANSWERED] [PC] Download keeps restarting on Windows Store app, can't finish it

Well, I’m right back where we were with Forza Horizon 3 back when that released. I can’t download FM7 Ultimate because I get to a certain point and then the download restarts. Yesterday I thought all was going good, had about 25gb downloaded (which is pretty dang good for my slow connection) and left it going overnight, expecting it to be at around 60gb downloaded or so… surprise surprise, it was at 2.5gb downloaded… restarting once again.

Why hasn’t this issue been fixed at Microsoft? They had experience with the problem from FH3, and it was fixed, so why is it happening AGAIN? There’s even a post on Reddit about a work-around which describes what seems to be the core issue, which is the download URL which the Windows Store app uses expires every few hours, and then has to restart because the app isn’t “smart” enough to know how to continue the download.

Unbelievably frustrating, guys. Get this fixed.

same here

and I must say that turn 10 and microsoft takes us for small brains:

““We are aware that a small number of players are experiencing issues pre-downloading “Forza Motorsport 7” on Windows 10 PCs.
For those affected players, this issue arises from pauses in the pre-download.
This can occur with intermittent internet connections.
“Forza Motorsport 7” is a massive game.
We understand how frustrating it is to be blocked from pre-downloading.””

hey guys!!! wake up !!! A small number??? how many people write directly at microsoft service for this problem with store app?
internet connection ? with my poor 5Mega bits i have a stability at 100%
Forza is a massive Game !!! yes yes TESO too Final Fantasy Too  and many more

Origin /uplay/steam & gog " 4To download with this software and never one problem  "

please just say " yes we encounter problem with the store application and we do the best for you " WE ARE SORRY"

Thank You

It’s not just with pre-loads. I own the Ultimate Edition which should let me play and still getting the same error from pre-load when trying to download, nothing got fixed.

start - settings (cogwheel icon) - apps & features - store - advanced options - reset

Will it actually fix the issue?

THIS WILL FIX NOTHING!! & wsreset.exe WILL FIX NOTHING!!

It might fix the endless restarting of the download loop. But as soon as you pause the download or drop internet connection for a moment, it will resume the download at 0mb.

I got as far as 45gb, my internet was reset (they are upgrading the lines in the area) and it resumed at 0.
I attempted to download the game around 20-22 times and have used 80+ gb of data and in the end still had 0mb downloaded

I refunded. The same issue was present in Gears of War 4 and Forza Horizon 3 a year ago. Microsoft does not see this as an issue worth addressing.

With Steam/Origin/Uplay you will download a compressed game which will then unpack. You can pause, resume, even go weeks with a game on paused download.
With Windows Store pausing resets most downloads to 0 and you download the game uncompressed. If Forza 7 was on Steam it’d be a 40-60gb download, not 95+gb

It’s fairly astounding that Microsoft, the company with huge overhead and who built the operating system Steam/Origin/Uplay use, cannot even match the basic minimum service required for digital game distribution.

Games For Windows Live was poorly planned and executed, and so too is Windows Store. I noticed Killer Instinct and Cuphead chose to release Steam versions and the technical reviews are glowing.

I got the same problem. The Windows store downloader don’t restart from the beginning when that happens. It is just a number on the screen in fact it is 0% of the remaining of the download. The files downloaded are on your disk and the downloader just continue but the percent you see on the screen is just not working properly. The best thing to do is NOT restarting from the beginning by removing the files. Just keeep downloading and don’t care about those numbers.,

the store was the problem

No. It won`t.

I also can’t download the game!! I’m trying to download it since Friday and I can’t!

Refunded as well, all the companies involved here are Microsoft owned and based, they are the problem. Refunded my Ultimate Edition to my dismay. Had the same problems and don’t do anything for their customers but tell them to wait. Another dismal release done wrong. Beware of the coming micro-transactions.

I have Forza 7 on pc never had a problem downloading it or playing it so you cant blame Microsoft or turn 10 for much

Consider yourself the minority.

There’s a thread stickied at the top of the forum saying ‘sorry’ that the game doesnt download and keeps restarting for many.

There’s almost a dozen reddit threads and threads on this forum with people trying their best to provide work arounds, linking several third party apps that may allow some to fix the issue.
The Windows 10 store reviews are also 80-90% ‘cant download the game’

Just because you had no issue, does not mean others did not.

Furthermore the issue here, a download that restarts at 0mb when you resume has been a common and recurring issue with Windows 10 store for other games, such as Forza Horizon 3’s launch as well as Gears of War 4. The downloading issue is now one year old and Microsoft has not yet addressed it. What’s stopping them? These are all Microsoft licensed games and products being distributed on a Microsoft application where Microsoft has total control to do what they want.

When developers place games on steam they have a different publisher, sometimes numerous for different regions, and then need to go through steam another party. There’s perhaps 3-5 organisations involved. There is one in this instance, Microsoft.

You’ll also notice Cuphead and Killer Instinct chose to release alongside Steam as well as Windows 10. No issues reported for Steam… issues reported for Windows 10 and the Windows Store however.

Because if it went fine for you, it went fine for everyone else who paid, correct?

I’ve pre-ordered Forza 7 Ultimate Edition and didn’t pre-load because I read about the issues and thought they must’ve fixed them by now.
Started downloading yesterday over night and it reached 65.14GB and then didn’t get over that and just now it started from the beginning.

I have a 16Mbps line with 500GB monthly cap and Microsoft wasted 65GB of this quota because people working there aren’t competent enough for something that has been on the internet for more than a decade… Digital distribution

I don’t want a refund for the game because I won’t get my wasted quota back and I still want to play the game so what I am gonna do is, I will ask for a 50% refund for my wasted quota and will keep the game and will use that refund towards buying quota from my ISP. Fair and square I guess.

I Believe I have found the solution for the problem I have a 5mbps max internet download so I have been experiencing the same issue
So far I have been able to get the download to go back where it last was while downloading if you cancel the download completely then go back to the store and redownload it will bring you back to where you last left off normally between 5 to 10 mins for it to get back where it was

They never fixed this. MS is a pathetic excuse for a software company.

Hello,

If you guys are having issues downloading the game, please email forzafb@microsoft.com so we can look into this for you.

Make sure you try to type WSRESET in the start menu and try again.

Thanks,

This does nothing. How many thousands of complaints does it take for MS to finally fix what every other game service does perfectly? The only true way of getting around the issue is by having a super fast connection. Ever since I upgraded my internet speed I’ve had zero issues downloading Gears of War 4 and Forza 7. Before that nothing but rage inducing errors and restarts.
