It allows me to start the download but it will get to 58.58mb before it comes up with an error Code: 0x80070005 which from research, shows it is an access denied code. Why is this coming up when I am the only user on my computer and I am also the administrator on this computer. This is getting to the point where I am tempted just to get a refund of the game. This is ridiculous, first it happens with forza horizon 3 and now it is happening with forza motorsport 7. Really need to fix the microsoft windows store because in its’ current state, it makes it difficult to be able to download anything without having to restart it multiple times.
So if anyone knows why this is happening to me and why it specifically stops on 58.58mb instead of continuing, please let me know.
Thank you.
EDIT:
Attempted to download the game again today while I went to go to work. Left the computer on all day thinking that by some miracle, it might actually start and download. To my surprise… No. Nothing. The same exact error. 22 hours to go until the 29th which is specifically why I bought the ultimate edition. No one seems to be recognising that there is the same issue from last year and this is really starting to give me the shits. Why would I bother paying $140 AUD for a game if I have to go through with this? Someone on the microsoft team needs to get onto this otherwise, I am not going to bother with it anymore even though I was very eager to play FM7. I will have no other choice but to get a refund on the ultimate edition if I am not able to play it by the 29th because I am not putting up with this pathetic excuse for an “early download” for much longer.
EDIT #2:
Tried it again this morning and did the exact same thing. Unfortunately, as much as I didn’t want to, I decided to get a refund.
I’m having the same issue with downloading this game on Windows 10 Pro v1703 Build 15063.608 to a drive with over 650 GB of free space. The error is code: 0x80070005, which is as typically meaningless and as unhelpful as I’ve come to expect from Microsoft. I paid £80 for a game that I cannot even pre-load never mind play. Not sure if it’s the download is bugged in some way or if it’s an issue with the new revamped Microsoft Store with its coloured icon which installed a few days ago (I’m a Windows Insider with early release previews selected). I left my PC downloading today while I was at work and when I left home this morning it had downloaded 2 GB. It errored out and on clicking Retry it started to download again from 0 MB before failing again. Subsequent attempts fail at the 58 MB mark.
The frustrating thing is that this game is only available to download on the Windows Store, a piece of software that, in my experience, is vastly inferior to the likes of UPlay, Origin and, especially, Steam. I generally do have issues downloading games on those other platforms but on the Windows Store it is not uncommon for larger games to stall with some kind of error part way through only to reset back to 0% on clicking Retry. This is the sort of stupidity that you wouldn’t see on any other platform other than the Windows Store. While most games and apps do eventually download fine and most download without issue the larger ones are more prone to this issue by virtue of taking longer to download in the first place. This makes it feel like playing Russian Roulette at times. This is game isn’t 50 GB, it’s 95 GB! It deserves a better distribution platform that the, in my honest opinion, rubbish Windows Store, a platform that is buried under layers of encryption, sluggish download speeds (ones that often cripple download speeds for other things as it hogs all the bandwidth!) and unreliability. Even when you download the games, the platform has no means to verify the files (to check for corruption like Steam and UPlay have) or any means to backup the files. It’s like Microsoft designed it for small mobile-type apps first and foremost and neglected to consider that it might not be suited for larger games. The Windows Store is the reason why Microsoft will never be a serious competitor to Steam, Origin or UPlay. It seems as doomed to failure as Games for Windows Live was.
The weird thing is that Halo 2 updated today (all 25 GB of it… what is it with Store games and large patches?) and I download the 22 GB Forza Motorsport 7 demo without any issues.
Wait a bit… I have the same error code. This code tells you you don’t have access to whatever. My guess is that the servers are a bit weak. It will fix itself.
That’s all very well but I only have a 14 Mbps connection hence why I wanted to pre-load the game ahead of its 29th September release. So how long should I wait when this game will likely take over a day to download on my system?
At the moment though even if the game does download part of the data, it just resets back to 0% if it fails. Not only is that concerning, since it could happen at the 90 GB mark, but it is absolutely ridiculous in this day and age of large downloads where Steam, UPlay and Origin seemingly cope just fine even on my internet connection. I downloaded the 33 GB FIFA 18 on Origin two days ago for example and all 47 GB of Project CARS 2 on Steam without a single hiccup. This issue really needs to be fixed. I don’t mind if a game download stalls so long as I can resume it. As I said in my post above it feels like blind luck sometimes as to whether something will download on the Windows, sorry Microsoft Store or not.
My downloaded started automatically and got 81gb downloaded then errored out.
I made the mistake of clicking the little retry button and apparently rather than pick up where it left off it started over and is now erroring after just a few mbs.
Surely it does not need to re-download over 80 gigs that it already downloaded?
I feel your pain… I’ve been there myself with Quantum Break which downloaded all but the last 2 GBs of its 70 GB install before it stalled and decided to redownload from 0% on clicking Retry.
Only Microsoft knows why it can’t code a reliable digital distribution platform on PC but Steam managed it years ago and has been improving every year since. Even Origin and UPlay, inferior as they are to Steam, are still leagues ahead of the Windows Store. You cannot validate downloaded games on the Store nor make backups either, two options that should be mandatory for ALL digital distribution platforms IMO.
My DL stopped at 92 of those 95 GB. But those 92 GB have been transferred into the Microsoft.ApolloBaseGame folder which is the folder for Forza 7. So everything in that folder does not have to be downloaded over again. If you have just 10 GB or so in the folder, it will start to download from there.
If you have access to that folder, you are able to check the size. If not, do not force access.
/e
this one actually
D:\WindowsApps\Microsoft.ApolloBaseGame_1.106.2356.2_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe ← This folder is 92 GB big in my case. It will start there, when ever the servers ‘free’ again.
In my opinion it is the heavy server load. I had to use an LTE pass on my phone for 24 hours just to be able to start the download. It startet with my 16k connection and somewhen it got aborted with an error. Have never been able to continue or restart it. I guess slow connections timeout very fast. I was not able to download with nearly half of the speed my 16k internet has. Since I was using the around 150k via LTE it downloaded almost to the end with full speed. Just 3gb to go. The more people are done with their download, the more chances we will have to resume the dl. I am pretty sure about that.
Unfortunately it looks like when mine does resume it will be from 58.58mb. Is a shame since the 81gb had completed and was downloading at 30-40mb/s
Project Cars 2 on steam downloaded at 100mb/s and took less than 30 minutes to complete when I pre-downloaded it last week.
I’m having the exact same issue with the code “0x80070005” cropping up every time I try to download the game. It gets to over 100mbs into the download and just randomly stops. And because my internet is probably one of the slowest speeds in the world (less than 1mb/s, yea, that bad), I really need these few days before it’s release to download it. It’s such a shame we have to download it over the Windows Store because it’s always tedious yet somehow I managed to download the Forza Motorsport 7 Demo but I can’t even download the actual game.
Hopefully this gets resolved soon so we can all get racing!
Well if you have a slow connection speed, don’t use WIFI to download it (thats even worse with connection drops). just use network cable so at least your connection will be more stable. i guess that the windows store doesn’t like packet drops or unstability in your connection.
Same error code as above, think they would have fixed this by now. Seriously you made the same mistake last year, and you’ve learnt nothing. Most of us have other lives which need attending to and can’t spend most of the day sorting out you’re poor server download issues, sort it out or dont release the damn game if you cant distribute it.
On top of that some us still have data caps and by your inability to provide a steady download we only have one shot, and you have managed to screw that up for us.
