Turn ten and Sprint races ( 2 laps)

In hindsight, it probably would have been better for me if the career races were a little bit longer. I don’t blame Turn 10 – they are trying to do a balancing act. If they make the career races too long, then people will complain they cannot earn medals/progress/buy new cars fast enough. If too short (which, I think they are a little bit too short), then inexperienced drivers learn a lot of bad habits. As I’ve mentioned before, I have difficulty seeing how you can medal in career without doing some smash and crash. If those habits are learned in career, they will most likely carry over to multiplayer.

Currently, I only do career and rivals. There are two reasons I do not do multiplayer:

  1. I don’t relish the idea of a bunch of 12 year olds getting their kicks calling me schoolyard names and smashing me off of the track.

But, the second reason is just as important

  1. I’m afraid because of the bad habits I picked up racing career I’ll hit too many people out of instinct/lack of skill. And, if I do multiplayer, I want to make friends, not have everybody angry with me.

So, I think longer career races going forward would be a good idea, from my personal experience.

Ok so if I wasnt as angry at turn ten when writing the original post then the above - is exactly what I should Have said,
instead of Spamming as was.
Anubis Xeper and I Can both clearly see what has gone wrong , plain and simple, repair the mistake of 2 laps in career ( reward more credits per event ) by extending that part of the game we paid for- RACING - thats right the part where the players are on a track and driving in circles to cross a finish line .
its not much to ask surely?
-why cant we browse private /public races any more?

  1. yes you will get hit in lobbies unless you can find good racers to race with.

  2. since you are one of the few thousand that use the forum us this a bridge to online racing. Befriend some of us in here that will race clean and drive with them. Win or lose if you learn to race clean you will learn to drive faster out of line.

I think racing career is actually worse than racing online. There are some “muppets” as Rav1n would say but 95% of the people with mics are like you and just looking for clean racing. You can add me and join the party if you want to race sometime.

But yeah, I would actually play the career if races were longer and the AI wasn’t always trying to cut in and use my door/fender as a brake.

Thanks, Snake. I appreciate your offer (and the offer from you, ERS Johnson) to race. I will get into the wading pool of multiplayer at some point. I know there are a lot of good people in here. That’s why I enjoy hanging out.

Prior to the Xbox 1, the last game systems I owned were the Nintendo Wii and the original Xbox. So, the whole social aspect of gaming is a bit new to me. If you are in these forums, you are more than welcome to add me as a friend.

“AX, what the heck are you? Some kind of Star Trek alien or something?”

Well, it will sure seem that way, sometimes.

Also, I currently live in SE Asia, so if I do race, there might be time zone/connectivity issues.

OP you wouldn’t want more laps online most of us will DNF you and you won’t win any credits lol

I too feel some races online need to be a few laps more but overall I’m happy the length they are. I honestly see a lot of DNFs in these short races already make it longer and it will be worse for the slower racers.

As I understand it the formula for the single player races is based on T10s analysis/customer research of how we play and what we want. I have friends who go pale at the thought of doing more than 3 or 4 laps. I guess I am an endurance racer, I love setting up a fifty lapper in free play and getting on with it. I thought it would be that you could get the big races online. So far however I don’t seem to be seeing this.

I’m sure DG has talked about this in interviews. T10 are trying to appeal to the widest potential customer base to maximise profit . Exactly what you would expect a business to do. The risk lies in that by trying to please everyone nobody is pleased. Everyone is mildly satisfied and a little frustrated.

Opinions vary greatly but I believe that homogeneity leads to mediocrity. Love it or loathe it polarises opinion. It also engenders passion and loyalty. Homogeneity never reaches greatness…

I completely understand the reason for the short career races. I don’t fault Turn 10 for trying to make money. If they make no money, we have no Forza. I just think it is undeniable that this rationally thought-out business decision has an unfortunate side effect - teaching inexperienced drivers bad racing habits. While I think I’m improving overall as a driver, I would be scared to see me in a race. My entire racing experience has consisted of smashing through the line like Christian Okoye (remember him?) and then passing the survivors one by one to win a gold medal. So, I’ve got medals. I’ve got so many gold medals I make Michael Phelps look like a drowning victim. But, nobody wants to see me in a lobby and I don’t blame them one bit.

I know they have you start at the back because they didn’t want career to simply be Rivals – the Party Version. But, maybe some form of qualifying might help create more drivers and less fullbacks.

I think the solution to appealing to the widest racing demographic is easy. Add a race length option kind of like the difficulty. You can have it set for 1x, 2x, 3x, 4x, or 5x for career. With my limited knowledge of coding I don’t see why this wouldn’t be as easy as adding a multiplier to the race length.

For multiplayer custom lobbies are the answer, and I’m sure they are being worked on. At least I hope.

Im still relatively new to multiplayer. So I started in c beginner. I felt like a football. If you go to c class at the top you get more laps and cleaner races. Still met some very clean racers in the beginner class.
