From the web:
“Other Xbox studios have also been hit hard. Rare’s Everwild and The Initiative’s Perfect Dark reboot were canceled, and The Initiative studio was shut down completely. Turn 10 Studios, known for Forza Motorsport, lost most of its staff. Studios like Rare, ZeniMax Online, King, Raven, Sledgehammer Games, and Halo Studios all faced cuts. ZeniMax’s president Matt Firor left after 18 years, and Rare’s veteran designer Gregg Mayles reportedly left after decades with the company. Even Blizzard is ending Warcraft Rumble.”
Isn’t this old news? Something like two years ago?
Nope, it happened recently.

Well, if it’s a lot of managers, that’s probably not a bad thing. (no offense to any managers out there). Times are tough all over it seems.

It’s 50% of the staff and it’s not just managers.

They’re probably only being kept to help keep Horizon sequels afloat.

I have seen comments at the gtplanet forums that said artists and audio developers are gone too.
Here are some examples:
The head of the Live service program was laid off too…
Looking at LinkedIn many people associated with Cars, Tracks, Live Service and Community Management have been let go. So it will pretty surely be the End of Life of the game…
The entire country of the United States is in shambles, so I reckon game development would eventually be affected too. It was just a matter of time.

Eh, it’s really not as bad as your news outlet makes it out to be. The economy is extremely bad though, but that’s the world economy as a whole.

I am gutted about Forza Motorsport as I think that they should have shut down the horizon side instead as there is so much more they could of added to Forza Motorsport e.g. new tracks, but hey ho they obviously know best.

Hm well maybe don’t make your game abandonware before the sequel comes out.
nah you tripping lay off other studios
That was never a realistic possibility. Whilst I am not sure if Motorsport player numbers have been released, I doubt they even come close to the 40M+ that have played Horizon (granted a lot of people didn’t even finish the opening mission but still). Financially, Horizon has far surpassed motorsport to be the most successful Forza entry.
Also consider that it’s already confirmed that there is a new Forza title coming next year…that was always going to be FH6 so there was no possibility of the PGG losing jobs.

Only people left are the janitors. Way to go MS.

When you consider the latest update consisted mostly of rearranging and making old events available again with more old playlists time gated for the next few months. Seems like a clue that there might not be working on new content in the foreseeable future.
