I’m no tuning wizard or a Forza pro, in fact FH4 is my second Forza game after FM2. But here is my “stupid” question (tuning for road)
Why do most people not tune outside wheels to 0?
0 means 100% of the tyre is contacting the road, right?
I’m slowly learning how to tune in Forza and have tried taking other big name tunes like DJS as referrnce when reading through the telemetry, but what I’ve noticed is that camber isn’t tuned and when I’ve defaulted the tune and installed back all the owend items the camber reads the same on the default setting as on DJS tune.
What am I missing or doing wrong? Is it just his preference?
Any helpful advice on better tuning would also be very greatful.
Corners, and the lines and speeds through them, vary wildly on most courses, so there is no true “0 camber” setting for all circumstances. Also, increased negative camber means a reduced contact patch for straight line acceleration and deceleration, costing time on straights. Ultimately, you’ll want to save those camber-heavy tunes for courses with shorter and fewer straights.
Edit: When tuning camber, you should look to the particular course and tune it to get the best times and handling feel for yourself, not a flat outside tire on a particular turn.
They’ve made tuning kind of hard in Horizon 4 because the rivals system won’t let you tune your car on your track. The weather changes every 5 minutes in free roam so any benefits you get from changes to your tune tend to be negated - or the weather change might make your tune perform better at the same time you make a change which can lead to misinformation.
On past Forza games, I tuned the wheel on the outside to have even temps which seemed to work better than anything I could come up with. But in Horizon 4, as soon as the season/track/terrain/weather changes, the camber setting that was perfect becomes mediocre and sometimes problematic.
Lately I’ve been tuning the camber and tire pressure by drifting. I go through the Needle Decent drift zone and when I’m finished I check the telemetry. I stop moving and the wheels temperature settles and slowly goes down but if your camber is too high or low, there will be a temperature difference after drifting. If you are drifting in one direction longer or at higher speed, your temperature difference will be opposite left and right. If the difference is the same (inside left is over by15°, inside right is under by 15°) it’s as good as seeing the same temperture 6 times.
After tuning this way, cars seem to be able to cope with the endless variations of conditions this game throws at us. It’s the best way I’ve found to get a good all-around tune for a car.
