A big bug bear in the online racing is track cutting. Glad to see in the updates there are some barriers going up but it is only a token gesture.
It would only take a few minutes to sort out T10, more barriers, sticky strips, temporary loss of horse power the list is pretty much endless technically on how it could be done but the reason for not being done is a T10 question.
Is it because you are scared you will lose players and revenue? I think you will find that fixing issues, stopping cheats, improving online racing experience will actually increase your player base and revenue.
I Kefka-hated the magic grass. HATEHATEHATE! The tire barriers aren’t perfect, but at least they’re a solution that doesn’t compromise the whole concept of “realistic racing simulation”.
I could get behind that. It preserves the integrity of the simulation without crunking up the tracks. I haven’t found any corners where I felt the out-of-bounds boundaries were unreasonable, so a penalty system based on them should work pretty well. I’d personally prefer a warning/stop-and-go/disqualified penalty scheme, but I can’t see the unwashed masses getting behind something anywhere near that unforgiving.
The tire barriers are anything but “realistic”. In real life there would be a yellow flag to clean up the mess and caution flags/penalties for cutting. I don’t like not seeing the track ahead and lime rock chicane is now completely unplayable in regular hoppers.
Exactly, the barriers they’ve added impedes the track layout, which have specific run off areas for safety. I hate runoff traps that retards wheel speed as in 24 Hours of Lemans, but at the same time having the barriers forces drivers to slow down to properly negotiate them, and that can be seen as a plus. But IMO, the track layout should not be encumbered in any way, corner cutters or not, it’s still a GAME!
It would help if the barriers were actually in the right place, T10 had a very poor attempt at fixing this issue and they publicly appoligised for how bad a job they did
Bugatti comes to mind. One of my favorite in fm5. Since they removed sticky grass, they just left it alone. Now people just cut the he’ll out of it. This track use to fine.
I also love YAS and consistency get wrecked by these cheaters when they cut back on. They did nothing for this track.
The unnecessary and block view and actually throw cars back into traffic. Sticky grass was fine to me. I also like the idea of speed bump or other ways to disrupt the car so the player loses time going off the track.
To me the worst and most unexcuseable it’s putting barrier or dirty areas in once clean without a lb wipe.
They just have to do a better job of making dirty laps less beneficial than clean ones.
That’s just the way t10 implement new features, bull in a China shop mentality. Fm4 had the worst sticky grass ever, if u got knocked off the track on top gear it would take 5 minutes to get back to the track. Cut the chicane on sedona and u stopped dead and everyone pilled into you. A combination of sticky grass tyre walls and other obstickes need carefully consideration and planing before they are put on a track. It’s all about time that T10 don’t really have
I prefer the sticky grass to tire walls. I find them unsightly and they block my view through chicanes. The problem with sticky grass is that, with the current crash physics, greifers can bump you off the track into these areas. Allowing them to complete the pass with no repercussions.
Sticky grass did have its issues but it did reduce corner cutting. These tire barriers do stop corner cutting but they arent realistic and they usually arent in places that people really cut to begin with. I still think a time penalty being added at the end of the race is the way to go like dirt rally.
Its not too hard to find the most egregious cutting spots, theres youtube videos of them, these should have higher penalty times. Im sure when the person realizes that corner cutting will result in them dropping from first to last place they wouldnt be so quick to do it.
The only issue would be is that you could be pushed into these zones, but in all honesty if you’re able to be pushed off the track at these particular spots you were too close to the edge to begin with. If theres one thing people need to learn in forza its racing etiquette.
No one seems to know or care about other peoples racing lines. Sometimes you have to suck it up and pull back and give someone the right of way. I do blame turn 10 for this one as they never implemented racing rules of any type as well as dont attempt to teach people what the sport of motoring is about. Maybe 7 will bring some much needed changes with regards to this.
Yep, time penalties, for me, are the easiest way to go. Having in game constraints around racing rules that are so dependent on individual incidents must be a nightmare to set out logically then code. Something simple; you cut the corner 5 secs to total time, you hit someone at 50% or more of their speed DQd
For crashers, make them ghost and don’t give them a time.
If a player regularly hits others at more than 50% give them a badge and make them ghost until they can race without ‘hitting’ others.
Tracks notorious for corner cutting since release have not even been touched up at like i.e: Sebring, Yas Marina. Whereas other tracks have been touched up but have been completely useless or caused more wrecks i.e: Short version of Silverstone, Catalunya, COTA, Lime Rock…
I believe this was only referring to the Monza issue people had, to me, they weren’t apologizing for the poor effort they put forth to reduce corner cutting.
He did specifically mention monza but I think the next quote is most certainly an apology from t10 for not fixing the track limits all be it only on monza.
“clearly there is more work to be done. With that in mind, I’d like to apologize for any frustration this has caused.”
Tbh I was so shocked that T10 even bothered to aknoledge the issue that im going to take this as the best aplogy we are going to get.
