The corner cutting in Indianapolis - is that reflective of real track racing?

It’s not even classed as dirty. Why would T10 allow such blatant corner cutting unless its allowed on the real track too?

All this time i was racing within the lines and couldnt understand how my lap time was so slow and then by chance i just experimented and voila i was within a few seconds from the top of the leaderboard instead of 15 seconds away.

There;s not penalties for bad behavior at the moment. Ramming, cutting etc.

I really hope they implement a penalty system

I’m pretty sure the reason why it’s like that is because on other variants of the track, those areas are part of the circuit, so if they made those areas dirty lap times in would mess up those variants.

Considering that the different track variants move entire barriers around, I don’t see it being much different to enable/disable different penalty areas for track variants as well.

I also agree that Forza needs a penalty system. Right now the game encourages dirty driving between the lack of penalties, the AI behavior, and even the FM7 launch trailer. Hopefully the devs can do something to tone this back. I’m very much guilty of being a terrible driver towards the AI (Need to catch the guy in front? Use their car as a brake around a hairpin as you t-bone them into the sand. Rewind as necessary until it works with you in front and still in control of your car.). However, I can appreciate the desire for a clean race and would like to be incentivized to do it instead of always being encouraged to be aggressive and dirty.

Fixing this issue would expose just how bad the AI is in the game. 3 races in a row on Hockenheim unbeatable knocked from 2nd - 3rd to the 7th-9th on the 2nd to last corner. The AI go cross country all the time and can recover or not even affected by grass etc. like we are. They don’t pass they ram no matter how much room either side. Any wonder why the Multiplayer etc is a demo derby and a cheat fest? T10 are teaching players that there is no clean racing just survival of the fittest. As gamer1000k has pointed out terrible driving habits but would this be the case if the AI was normal?. This game is FH3 with different tracks.

FH3 encourages dangerous driving, but punishes dirty driving. Haven’t we all wailed as a monster combo score is broken because somebody rammed us slightly, or as a drift tap comes a bit too heavy and you ram the wall too hard? Forza Horizon 3 promotes clean racing in racing in a brilliant way and I see no reason why FM7 can’t do the same. Why not link XP earned to race feats? Perfect turns, drifts, drafts etc, and add a ‘clean racing’ feat or score at the end of the race. At the moment, I know I’ll make the best rewards by coming first, so I aim for that by any means. If, however, I knew I could earn better rewards by driving cleanly and precisely (as in FH3), I would be much more inclined to do so.

This is the correct answer; each Environment uses a single “penalty zone” set for all of its Track layouts.

Leagues are setup right now to win anyway possible. That means corner cutting. In the F1 game you get time penalties added to end time, which even if you cross the finish line first your final position is determined by overall race time. I believe this time system would work best. Maybe adding some sort of race school/qualification tutorial as a prequel to leagues could help separate skill levels and create better bands.

The problem with this case is the game doesnt even recognize it as beimg dirty.

They had time penalties in FM1. Agreed that they need to bring that back. But, first they would have to let go of their precious drafting rule that makes laps dirty. I believe that was implemented either in FM3 or 4 because of the outcry by hotlappers.
I will not hold out hope as if history is any guide then that which is removed in the forza world rarely returns.

FM3.

And yes, how dare we cry about faster cars pushing slower cars around a track faster than they could even possibly go setting impossible laptimes. But yep, all our fault.

I hadn’t done much online racing in public lobbies until the leagues. I am amazed at some of the corner cutting. I’m not amazed that people are doing it, I’m amazed at how much can be done.

In FM2 cutting corners would add a time penalty to your lap but not affect overall end time. This could be adjusted however, by implementing corner cutting time penalties added to end time or total of all lap times. This would easily fix one problem in leagues/multiplayer. Time penalties could be added when the boundaries of the track are exceeded, not for drafting or touching another car. Perfect turns, perfect passing, and drafting bonuses could be applied to your league points because that would mean youre a good driver and deserve more than just start/finish points. Most of this boils down to the mindset of the racers and how advancing through the ranks works. If advancement was based on surgical precision of clean/fast laps, perfect turns, and perfect passes as well as finishing position, instead of just chainsawing your way to the finish line, the atmosphere and quality of racing would improve across the board. This doesn’t address the crashing/griefing issues but adding this would be a great way to start.
