Why are dirty laps given for what is basically racing? I totally understand dirty laps for contact with cars and track limits etc.
I did 34 laps this morning and only managed 7 clean laps! not because I hit anything or cut a corner but simply because as I overtook slower cars I was given a ‘dirty lap’ one of the vehicles I passed was a truck, It doesn’t matter if you’re passing on a straight or corner if you come up behind another car you will get a ‘dirty lap’.
Also if you’re on a fast clean lap and someone passes you, you will still get a ‘dirty lap’ This is so frustrating and in the end I stopped playing.
And this morning while on the open trackday an idiot in a truck was trying every lap to hit cars as they passed it, why can’t he be kicked or voted to be kicked like on other servers.
The lap is marked as dirty because of drafting, the advantage is negligible (for the most part) but it’s there nonetheless. It’s done to ensure the leaderboards areas ‘fair’ as possible with no one having an advantage, no matter how small it might be.
As Bibblefish said, the effect of drafting is causing the flag, even though it’s not a penalty. Something to consider too is that leaderboards are designed with hotlapping in mind, where every individual driver is concerned about exact time under the same conditions. In a race, your primary concern is about finish place, so whether your time was clean or flagged is not the determining factor for that event.
This is why the Forza Multiplayer experience is a complete joke. You can’t even have a competitive race because you will have to start at the back of the field the next race due to your laps being flagged as dirty. A bunch of us regular’s on the S class regulations lobby end up having to back off of each other so we don’t get screwed for the next race.
