Why does it keep showing dirty laps as my best lap?

A five lap race: three of which were clean laps. But my fastest lap was a dirty lap so it shows that as my best lap??? That’s obviously not best, that’s a garbage lap, because it was dirty.

Best laps should be your fastest clean lap. This is how it’s been in all previous versions. But now they’re basically saying, “hey you cut some corners and bumped into people, but it was your fastest, so we’re going to call it your best lap”. Stuff like this is just ridiculous.

I mean, I guess they don’t have the leaderboard anymore so any trash lap can be considered super great. Let’s just tell everybody it’s all about the time and not how well they drive. No wonder multiplayer is a crash fest. Haven’t been there since the first day of early release. All I keep hearing is it hasn’t improved and the penalty system is still broken. Just doing my weekly single player to get my free car.

The disappointment bucket just keeps spilling over…

I’ve noticed it also times your lap split from the fastest clean lap.

So if you don’t remember what your last clean lap was you don’t know what the split is measuring from.

Definitely a disparity between what the game treats as your fastest lap (for qualifying position, split times etc) and what it displays. It can be frustrating in MP when you’re trying to eek out those last 1000ths during quali when the live leaderboard on-screen isn’t showing the true grid line-up as it stands, you might already be on pole and not realise.

They have completely screwed this from other Forza’s.

Previously any Clean lap would supercede a faster dirty lap.

For whatever reason a Dirty lap with a faster time will be the fastest, until you manage to beat it. Be that Dirty or Clean.

This infuriates me, Turn .10 is going backwards in almost every aspect of this game.

If your overall fastest lap is a dirty lap it will show it as it is. But that’s not the case in online multiplayer though.

Happens to me all the time in mp.

It’s just a dirty rotten game that’s why! :rofl::call_me_hand::+1:

The invalidation flag is also broken in UDP.

IsLapInvalid never flips to “True” even if you dirty the lap in-game.

Is this a thing they added? It wasn’t in the original documentation.

SimHub has a field for it, so either it’s not supported or not working.

Additionally, to show how their lack of understanding of quality laps related to this… When you’re doing a practice run you get two bonuses: one for completing a certain number of laps and a second one for completing a lap in a certain time. You can drive the car through every sand trap, cut every corner, crash AI cars out, and scrape every wall, as long as you still make that time… it counts that lap time for your bonus. How is this okay? Utterly ridiculous!

I’m not too fussed about that as
a) It’s single-player/offline mode, so it doesn’t affect anyone else, and
b) every so often you’ll get a bonus time which is completely impossible for your current setup/tune (or requires an absolute alien of a lap), so I’m not averse to cutting a chicane on one of the practice laps. Levelling up is slow enough as it is, I’m not about to repeat Practice multiple times just to get a measly extra 250CXP so why not cut a corner or three?

I made this thread a while ago but thought I would come back here because I started playing the game a little bit again and noticed I would be getting green times popping up on the screen but then when I finish the lap it wasn’t updating my best lap time.

I realized it’s what you mentioned, that it’s basing those lap difference times on your best “clean” lap. But then it still posts your best overall lap, even if it was dirty. They just need to get rid of the whole dirty lap ever being possible as a best lap. This is such a stupid choice. Put that it into the bucket with all the other ones they’ve made in this game.
