To X or not to X

This is a question for all of you that have gone from the regular consoles, of an S, to the One-X. Did you notice a noticeable performance increase in playing MS7, or H3 for that matter? The reason I ask is since buying a new camera last month I now have $95.00 in Rewards at BestBuy, plus a 10% Off Coupon. That would make $145.00 OFF upgrading to the new console. The only downside is I would not got to use the 4K output as my Asus 4K monitor that I use only uses 4k while using the Digital Port, not HDMI. I am thinking about it anyway and then go back to using the new console to play MS7 and H4. I use PC for MS7 now. IS the processing power upgrade worth it, do you think?

If it is a Displayport, they make HDMI to Displayport converters. That may work assuming the One X supports that. I suppose there is a chance it would not be compatible for some reason but the converters are like $30 on Amazon.

Then I would have to find a DP switch OR not use 4K with my PC. Decisions, decisions. Seriously though, I looked for one when I bought my S version box and couldn’t find one at that time. I will look in to that. I have a week before the 10% coupon expires and I could live without my PC being 4k.

The performance of the game on the X vs the standard Xbox One is STAGGERINGLY better.

Not only that, but all my One X games look awesome. Didn’t think there would be that big a difference, but there is.

Noticeable? It’s like night and day, lol.

Ok, I’ve never had an original Xbox one.

I can compared my one s to my one x though.

Speed wise, I don’t really notice that much difference. Where I notice the most difference is in the quality of display, but that’s one a Hisense 43, 55 and 65" 4k hdr tv. The one s does hdr, the one x adds 4k, and that’s where I saw the difference. Names over cars(drivatars) were perfectly clear, night and day difference.

I really don’t notice any game performance difference when playing fm7 or fh3 between the one s and x.

If you already have a good pc that runs FM7 in 4k you don’t really need a one X… You should get some improvements if you have a good 4k hdr10 display but i’m not sure if it’s worthed buy a new console…

What CPU and GPU do you have?

AMD 6350 Visera (sp.?) 8 core @4500mhz, 16 gig ram, AMD 290x, running on an Evo 850 SSD. It runs 7 just fine at 4k but H3 seems to have the occasional hiccup, especially when trying things to do with online stuff so I just use the console for that.

I would say hold off if there’s a chance you won’t have it hooked up to a 4K HDR monitor. But if so it a huge upgrade from the original Xbox one and even from the S model too. Besides the FH and FM series there are other One X enhanced games that look killer but even for just those 2 games it worth it. Especially with that discount.

Unless it’s going to be in 4k HDR…Probably not worth it.

It looks spectacular in 4k HDR and runs so smooth…but I’ve also played it on my one X on a none 4k HDR t.v. and that was disappointing, or at least no where near getting the best from it.

Some positives I do like about the x over the s. I like where the eject button is located as well as the front panel USB port.

I stand mine on end, so I like that they moved it to the bottom, by the stand.

I don’t know as if I have ever used the eject button on mine. I put the Forza 5 disc in when I got this console and it is still there as I have to have to claim my weekly rewards. Every other game I play is a Digital copy. And the USB port is on the front of my S. You need to come up with more convincing reasons.

If your console lays flat, then the USB is moot. But stand it on end, and the usb on the s is now up top

If you get the Scorpio edition, you get the supremely cool green lettering, an instant hit with the kids!

Spend the money on upgrading your graphics card. That’ll be far more worthwhile than downgrading to a console. You can get a 1080 for only a little more than the cost of an X, or a 1070ti for around the same price as the X.

But, and I didn’t state this earlier, in less than 5 months I am retiring. And in another year from that my Wife is too. We are kicking around buying a camping trailer and traveling. I can take a console but it would be hard to take a PC.

H4 is already pre-ordered from MS Store and I have 3 controllers now already, 2 regular and one Elite. Since Forza games get 99% of all my game playing, and I use a Thrustmaster TX for that, the only thing I use a controller for is to plug in my Turtle Beach headset.

Decisions, decisions

No reason you couldn’t cancel your pre-order, but since you raise the idea about the camping trailer and bringing it with you, the Xbox One X seems like a no brainer. I doubt we will see a discount close to what you would be getting anytime soon. Based on the camping trailer idea, ease of use to just take it with you, image quality increase, and discount, I see nothing else to decide. Get the One X.

Just playing devil’s advocate, assuming you haven’t already pre-ordered Forza Horizon 4 elsewhere, why not purchase a digital edition of FH4 at the place you have the discount (Best Buy) and maybe add a new Xbox controller to the tab and pay any difference that is left over. Kind of a win win if you have that option. Controllers go bad pretty often and there its nothing better than having a new fresh back up available when one goes down.

Awhile back I found an amazing close out price on a controller at a Target brick and mortar store. Problem was I didn’t know anything about it and didn’t have time to research it. Seen it in there while running an errand for work. They had 3 in stock when I seen it. I said to myself, well at the very least I’ll buy one of them. While at work I thought about it and figured it’s a no brainer to buy another at the stupid low price it was. Few hours past between me buying the first one and going back to the store, the other two were already gone. Hindsight being what it is I kick myself everyday for not buying at least another one if not all three of them. To this day it remains my favorite controller and I still use it.

Basically my point of view is go with your gut instinct of what you think is best. It sucks that you have limited time to think about it and that 10% extra isn’t much on a small purchase, but with a One X purchase it’s nothing to laugh at. That’s just my 2 cents. I personally can’t say whether or not the leap is worth it, but I got to imagine the lighting aspect of FM7 has to be a bit better on the One X, assuming you are taking full advantage of the HDR 4k monitor aspect. When I say lighting I mean the difference in the night races and the overcast ones. I have read many say it’s much more enhanced on the One X.

There is no difference performance wise. FH3 is rock solid 30fps and FM7 is rock solid 60 fps on both.

Image quality wise is a whole another story though.
