I know that this has been covered already but I haven’t seen anything recent about these issues so I’m posting this in hopes it may help someone else. It happened to me and how I managed to fix it.
When I loaded my game last night, all seemed to be well until I wanted to switch cars. Everything else worked as normal but when I went to switch cars, the boxes disappeared. My car list would not populate. Only panning of my currently selected Lotus. I retried it a few times until I eventually ended up with “too long to load app/game” message. Thinking it was just the game at this point, I tried a couple more just to end up at the same message.
First, I tried hard reset. The game booted but the same problem persisted.
Then I tried reinstall. Same thing.
Then I deleted all the DLC. Same thing.
So after all of this, I thought my save corrupted. I tried many times to delete it but it wouldn’t.
At this point, I’m 4 hours into this and tired as hell (it was 4:30am).
When I finally got to the point where I was just going to just forget it altogether, I decided to try one last series of things.
I was not sure if it could on XB1, but I remember from when I played PS4 all the time, it’s hard to delete saves sometimes when logged into the PSN.
My resolution:
*Went into the settings and turned off my automatic sign in.
*I hard reset the console again. At this point, while signed out, I was finally able to delete the save.
**Note: I only deleted save from the console NOT from XBL.
*I rebooted the console again. At this point, I logged back in.
*I launched the game and let it load. While I was having my issues, the loading screens after pressing “A” didn’t have music. After all the steps, the loading music returned.
**During this sequence, the game synced the save data from XBL.
*I entered into the festival, and messed around with a few things to make sure they worked (AH, All Cars, Vinyls, etc.).
I took a deep breath and went to the My Cars section and…
drumroll
They were back!
My best guess was that something went awry during a save or load process. Regardless, this worked for me and I haven’t had a single issue so far.
Notes:
I only reinstalled the main game data and BM expansion. I didn’t download the car packs or expansion pass stuff again but everything ingame is still intact and accessible.
To rule out potential HDD or disc drive issues, I tested both disc and digital games.
This may or may not help someone but I hope it does.
