Tire wear in this game is something else (not in a good way)

Is it just me, or do the road tires have almost zero wear, while race tires are on strict linear wear pattern per lap? I did couple of races, some on easy curves national tracks and some on tire punishing tracks like suzuka or spa, and it seems the soft race tires always goes around lap 7, no matter the track length or even the amount of loads that are put through tires during laps.
If that is so, that is really disappointing. I get it, it is “simcade”, but still there are other simcades that manage quite more convincing tire wear than this. Tying tire wear to number of laps driven is a joke. Hell, even FM7 was better

Tire wear is scripted. In multiplayer its like this -
Lap 1-5 fully grip, Lap 6 full grip but color changes in tear wear HUD. Lap 7 - Kill.

That was my experience too, but then how the hell those other cars in MP manage to catch me on lap 7, if their tires are also dead and they obviously did not pit either. My experience is that the lap time goes around 2-3 secs down on lap 7 tires, yet those behind me on multiple occasions do not seem to slow down even when on same compound. Something is really fishy here

Tyre wear is not well executed. Grip loss basically happens all of a sudden. Needs to be fixed as it’s not enjoyable at all.

Need to try with TC on in assists, that may be the reason…

I will try going with full TC once I get home to see if that is really the case, I race with TC set to sport + no SC. If that is true, there is basically zero reason to drive online with anything other than full assists

You have the game, just run the track at low speed and see if at the end the wear is the same

The tire wear is scaled to the race length, thats why if as you say lap 7 in spa is equal to lap 7 at some shorter track, spa is obviously much longer and so even if 7 laps is the same number youve been running longer so its more coincidence.

It wouldve been more transparent if they showed the actual mutipliers for fuel and tires like gt7, but i guess they never heard of that game. I also would have liked if the races were actually dynamic so its not the same strategy every single time.

Tire drop off is also too abrupt and while tire wear is dynamic as you can effect wear, its not that apparent. Tire pressures and set up in general are supposed to alter tire wear which in my case with the low downforce set up i used with the civic i seem to have better tire wear than those around me.

Fuel usage should also take some pointers from other games where you can actually see if your saving or not. This would be especially useful when endurance races pop up unless they’re there already i havent looked.

Well, after some days, i don’t like how the scripted tire wear is working. “Short” race means soft is gone after target -2 laps, medium race means medium is gone after target -2/3 laps, rain means wet is gone after target -2 laps … and by the other hand, the races are too short for a pit stop making sense. … Or did i miss something here …

Is it scripted in Multiplayer and not free race??

Because in free race ive done some test and the wear is definitely different depending on how i drive a course

Its scripted in the way softs will be worn out before the end of the race usually a lap and a half before you finish. Tire wear is dynamic, if you sat there and did donuts youd wear your tires out. Unfortunately until they add endurance races, tire strategy will remain this way. The races are too short for anything like weather or time of day to have an effect.

I really enjoy tyre wear in multiplayer lobbies, I usually use practice time to calculate which and how to use tyres in race

It’s definitely nice that they’ve added different compounds and that there will be more strategy at play, but I think the tyre wear and compounds need a bit more work.

It’s seems like the grip levels take a fairly steep drop off, I’d have expected it to be a bit more linear. I didn’t realise tyre wear was so accelerated either.

Thought it was a good idea picking hards for a 7 lap MP race on Suzuka last night, but ended up having to pit on the last lap.

Same, it might be “scripted” in that the race length is a factor, but the way you drive matters significantly.

I’ve been able to squeeze out an additional lap of a set of mediums on a 7 lap race by varying my lines and how much I “lean” on the tires.

Turn up the tire squealing. Use that to judge how hard you push your tires.

I don’t like the tire wear. Just did a race on Lime Rock and had 10 laps out of 17 left switched to mediums and last two laps my tires were toast. I get it it’s scaled but the drop off is just ridiculous. Pits state there good for around 46 laps. I can’t even get 10.

*I just raced a 7 lap Suzuka race and after 3/4 laps I switched to softs and by lap 6 & 7 my tires were toast. Sorry but tire wear is ruining the experience for me. Not even fun.

Agreeeeeeeeeee

They built the game specifically so that you would never have to pit.

I suspect they have a multiplier on the rate of tire wear in MP. Which kinda sucks. Hopefully they just make longer races and dial back this Accelerated tire wear. I love that at least how you drive matters. If not i would stop playing all together.

But im think Forza is going to be something i play when i dont have time for ACC.

Hopefully they find a better balance because i love Forza.

I just ended a 6 lap race, weather was clear up until mid 3rd lap then started raining a lot. I was in P1 with a good gap, went straight in into the box to swap for Wets… and I just saw some 14 cars go past by me with medium and hard tires as if nothing was happening… what a joke. I ended in P13 in the rain and I was the only one with wets. I am uninstalling the game as I write.

I was driving with a high AI and minimal assists, Tire management is just a joke I was expecting a much more mature game.

if they use traction and stability control, they can squeeze out some more from their tires, and I mean, they can manage on bad tires, not that they wear less
