Tire choices.....

I’m curious why there aren’t normal dry race tires in this game.

All cars that I’ve tested have better grip on wet roads with race tires than rally or sport tires. I find this pretty counterintuitive.

In real life, street legal race tires are almost universally terrible on wet roads. Yoko A008s, BFG R1s, etc. Even something like a Bridgestone RE701. All worse on wet roads than decent street tires.
Then there are Michelin Pilots, Pirelli p-zeros, and similar - these to me aren’t race tires, they’re sport tires. All good for various conditions, but a big downgrade in dry grip from the above (and big increase in tread wear/lifespan).

From a game standpoint, I think this unnecessarily reduces the tactical options - give us both wet and dry race tires and spring and autumn become much more interesting.

Even simply reducing wet grip on existing race tires to be commensurate with rally tires would probably be more interesting.

Thoughts? I’m new to the series, so dunno if there’s history behind this.

[Mod Edit - thread merged; see post #6: “All tires in FH4 are “all-season” in that they provide adequate grip for dry, wet, or snowy conditions” - MM]

Just for sharing.
With winter season, I did following, two S1 tunes for same car, one with race tires another with snow tires, S1 900 both. Testing on Kraken, my conclusion is that there is quite no difference, 2 seconds on a 5mn race. Not talking about FH3 blizzard level, just enough difference so that there is a benefit to have different tuning depending on seasons.

I generally use rally tires on everything.
The loss of traction on tarmac is not bad enough to worry about, you can tune most of it out. They are great in the rain, which I find most races to be in the rain anyway.
The real benefit comes from.the traction you gain as your team mate tries to push you off the check point. Gripping that dirt rim is priceless.

imo dirt tires are too good in asphalt, for example i have two caymans one with racing tires and second with dirt tires and both will go around bamburgh pretty mutch in same time and dirt and snow rally cayman is just mutch faster so there is zero reason to pick race tire version in online adventure what sounds just really stupid that in road racing series best pick is car with dirt tires.

And another stupid thing is that in many tracks you can drive same lap times in winter using race tires than summer using race tires.

Where it really makes a difference is when the snow gets deep. Try Lakehurst Forest Sprint S2 with snow tyres vs race tyres, and snow tyres will crush the race tyres on the last part.

Rally tires also seem to have much better performance on snow than stock tires with “snow” icon.

The truth is that these Rally tires are insane. Really, in FH4 they’re even better than in FH3, where they were already great. They have a lot of grip while still letting you play with the car a little bit. One of the high points of the franchise, really.

I also use rally tires on most of my builds. I have an AWD 22B in A on street tires. An '05 GT and GT350 both RWD in S1 on race tires. Couple A classers on sports. Everything else especially S2 is rally. I do have a CLK GTR tuned up on race tires, and I tried them on my Veneno once. Even the Venom GT, my best S2 car, is on rally tires, and is usually only out-cornered by BAC Monos and GTR LMs. I’m not a good enough driver/tuner to use race tires to their full potential.

Don’t forget you can submit any suggestion or feedback here under the correct form.

Thanks

I wish we could use custom tire lettering on all compounds or even better yet, just let us add decals to all tires. I’d also love stretch tires, that’d be cool.

I miss the old Forza Motorsport 2 days where you had like 20 different types of race tires, all with their unique attributes. I do with that we could get more compounds. Without me turning this into a wishlist, here’s how I think kk it should work:

Stock
Street
Sport
Track
Hard Race / Soft Race / Medium Race / Vintage Race
Drag
Drift
Dirt
Snow
(And for the motorsport series, I think we should have Inters & Wet compounds)

There’s a lot of potential here, but I don’t see it changing sadly.
