I was really hoping they would fix the tire choices for this game but after the demo it doesnt look like it. I wanted to see:
3 X Grades of asphalt tires
3 X Grades of dirt/offroad tires that switch to snow/ice tires depending on season like dirt tires in blizard Mt OR 3 X Grades of snow/ice tires
1 X Set of Drag radials
1 X Set of drift tires.
Keep the asphalt tires as they are now.
The three grades of Dirt tires could be:
Lowest: street tires with a agressive tread pattern. Same traction upgrade as street asphalt tires but on dirt with a small loss of asphalt traction.
Middle: the dirt tires we have now. Same traction upgrade as Sport tires but on dirt with medium loss of asphalt traction
Highest: the offroad tires we have but on all cars. Same traction upgrade as race on dirt with a decent loss of asphalt traction.
Like the existing dirt tires but varying degrees of severity and the same PI impact as the asphalt version.
Snow tires could be:
Lowest: street tires with a agressive tread pattern made for snow/ standard snow tires. Same traction upgrade as street asphalt tires but on snow/ice with a small loss of asphalt traction.
Middle: Simillar to the dirt tires we have now but made for snow/snow rally tires etc . Same traction upgrade as Sport tires but on snow/ice with medium loss of asphalt traction
Highest: the same as middle tier but with studs. Same traction upgrade as race snow/ice with a decent loss of asphalt traction.
Like the existing dirt tires but snow with varying degrees of severity and the same PI impact as the asphalt version.
Tuners evrywhere will be greatfull, tuning will be more granular so there will be more viable online cars in general and it also doubles as a cool visual custom thing.
Other than that im happy with tuning options in this game for all the cars, the only other thing i would always ask for is more visual mods, bumpers, skirts, spoliers, body kits, rally gear, off road gear and other stuff like that.
Anyone else with me? or am i alone in this? Like some weird tire obssed freak
It makes it harder and looks worse when tuning cars for any class below S1 when you only got one choice in tires. Also if we had snow tires how i said it would make the winter season have more impact. It would make it so that instead of just having a Asphalt,Dirt/Rally and Off Road car for each class you would also need a snow car in each class for winter asphalt if it goes down the road of dirt and offroad tires auto become snow tires or whole set of snow cars for each class if snow tires are a sepreate set of 3. It would also make the difference between surfaces more pronouced and make it so that suspension isnt the only thing that different between a dirt car and a asphalt car. I think it would not only make the seasons and surfaces more pronounced but add a lot of variety and extra playtime too for what i can imagine is not much work by the devs. 3-6 new tire models at most and just use the same number for the traction bonus as the asphalt tire tiers but for dirt and snow and maybe lower the exting tires traction in dirt and snow. Seems to me a little work for a big payoff.Even if it was added a few weeks after launch or just before the winter ingame season it would be something like how they are adding drift and drag stuff to motorsport 7. For me if they added that i would say the performance tuning side of the horizon series is complete. It would have evrything.
No idea what the vintage compund was about, i was suprise by that my self.
Playground has doubled the number of tire compounds in FH4 to cater for the expanding and more diverse car list. Additionally, all tires have been completely revised to increase the effect of weight transfer, improving the feeling of “connection” with the car.
The vintage race tire compound gives older cars a tire that provides more grip in corners without making their PI leap multiple classes, which happens when you switch from a vintage stock tire to a modern race tire with 40+ years of technology advancement that’s fundamentally different than the tires of the era. It gives older cars more range in performance upgrade options, and provides more balance across cars in the low to mid PI range.
Studded snow tires automatically replace the offroad/rally tire upgrade in winter, and automatically revert back to rally tires when it’s not winter. The overall effect with both is more grip and control on slippery, loose, or bumpy surfaces.
All tires in FH4 are “all-season” in that they provide adequate grip for dry, wet, or snowy conditions (yes, more than you’d get in real life, because Playground wants driving fast in Horizon to be fun in all seasons, even winter. In real life, driving fast in winter is generally the opposite of fun.) But you will notice that the difference in handling on road vs offroad is much more pronounced in FH4.
Well that explains a lot. In that case all i rlly ask for is the 3 class of dirt tires that auto become snow tires then. Im fine with not having “rain” tires lol i not that pedantic and tire obsessed Knowing that i still think there should be two overall classes (other than drift, drag and vintage) of tire asphalt and Dirt/Snow and three grades of both with dirt becming snow tires and changing models auto. I think it should use roughly the kind of models and system i pointed out in my fist post. That way there wouldnt be a need to make snow rally and off road cars because the tires would auto change but you would still need to make a snow asphalt car with dirt/snow tires and slightly higher ride hight to clear uneven snow of roads but not as high as rally cars. It would make tuning as importamt as driving all the time.
Maybe along with the 3 classes of modern dirt tire i want they should also add vintage dirt tires now you explained about it
Thanks for the information though man, it clears up a lot. Maybe you could pass my thoughts on the other ppl at playground and see what they think too? Like i said performance wise its the only thing i think is missing or little wrong. Its somthing i complaining about since i first played horizon 3.
When winter comes will we have to equip snow tires like blizzard mountain or does the game automatically do it. Or is it a whole different tire system all together.
I guess it’s more realistic NOT to allow drag tyres on everything. Coz in reality, who would put drag tires on a Unimog and actually go and race it. Also keeps things competitive, you’ll never win any drags in that snorlax of a vehicle. Seems like developers actually put in effort not to allow it on FH4, whereas on FM7 it was across the board allowed.
In a game spanning four seasons, over three distinct road surfaces, there does not appear to be any options to switch tyres.
In FH3, for instance, cars equipped with dirt/rally tyres would automatically switch to snow tyres when travelling to Blizzard Mountain. And if you rocked up to the the mountain without snow tyres, it was literally impossible to control your car.
I’ve checked most of the cars in my garage, though not all, and I’ve yet to find one which allows me to change the tyre compound.
There are a variety of tires to equip in upgrades for most cars. None of them are weather specific, though I believe rally or off-road tires will automatically become snow tires in winter (indicated by a snowflake on the car select screen).
