Tips to turn off ABS?

This is really my first true go with a Forza racing game, I’ve eliminated all assists except for ABS. When I brake without ABS on, any car I’m driving seems to instantly lock up when I hit the brakes. I am using the tried and true braking methodology of brake in a straight line (max pressure), lift off slowly during turn in to apex. I am coming from the F1 games where I play with no assists and I’ve never had problems with locking up with no ABS on (obviously there is lock up when I make mistakes). In Forza, it feels like I cannot apply full braking pressure without getting a lock up. I am not slamming on brakes by any means. Any one have tips, a link to a good Youtube video, etc.?

I am using Xbox Elite Series 2 controller

Enjoying the game, thanks in advance!

Pull the brake trigger until you feel it start to rumble. This is where you’ll get maximum braking force and where the wheel is just on the verge of locking up. If you have race brakes, you can adjust the overall brake pressure to give yourself a longer or shorter “throw” with the brake before you start to feel that rumble.

Thanks, that is a good point. I’m not sure i’m getting the feedback through the brake (I use left trigger) like I should be. I didn’t even think about that, duh. Thank you!

Try applying about 60-80% braking on the trigger or pedal. Get a feel of how much input locks the wheels. Then just practice, practice.

decrease brake pressure in tuning menu.

What are your controller settings? I ran with the same controller for a long time. It is pretty customizable to help with all this.
Dead zones (I set mine to 0,100), sensitivity curves, etc. all make a big difference with the Elite 2 controller since you can customize those. If you are finding that you lock up too fast, you can change your curve to have the bulk of the brake force be in the last 20-30% of he trigger.

Its exactly what you said: You cannot apply full braking pressure without getting a lock up.

Dont apply full braking pressure. It will always lock up (yes, in a straight line).

Squeeze the trigger gently until you find the limit of the tires/car.

i always drive without abs since fm2-3 cause it was a lot faster…

on fm6 i started with going from 100% bp to 130% bp i got used to it so i used 160% brake pressure and a 53% to the front and was always really late on the brakes.

just use like 60-70% of the brake button first and if youre trailbraking go up to maybe 75%

the real help is like trippul_g said the rumble the controller gives… without rumble i am atleast 2 sec lap slower…

if you know wich rumble is lock up and wich is agianst the lock up your golden.

i have to admit fm7 and fm23 ( same game nearly) i struggle with the brakes a bit more and only use like 107 % bp and 52% to front. maybe if i ever gonna play fm23 agian i gonna try 130% bp first and then 160% agian

ive 2 heard the abs in fm7 and fm23 is a lot better and almost makes no difference anymore with or without abs on

in fm6 it was difference between night and day

but you use a elite controller so i would be so happy with that cause you can even adjust the rumble…
i would love even more rumble in my stock xbox controller

Others have already mentioned great points regarding technique. Just drive as much as you can with ABS off and eventually braking without ABS will be as easy as breathing.

Another thing I would like to point out, it’s very handy to learn how to tune brake balance while you’re at it. With cars running sport or race tier brakes, the front/rear brake balance can be adjusted. Often times I find default settings can cause the front brakes to lock way before the rear brakes lock up.

Typically on RWD cars I move the brake balance rearward until the rear wheels lock up first under heavy braking, then I move the balance forward a % or two so the front wheels only just lock up ahead of the rear wheels. If the car still feels unstable under braking then you further move the balance forward. Brake pressure is up to personal preference but I’d say go as high as you feel comfortable. I usually like it at 160-200%.

Properly adjusting brake balance will allow the car to better distribute the force of braking across all of the wheels, which will lend you shorter stopping distances and better maneuverability under heavy braking. Plus learning to tune a bit is always a good thing in my book :+1:

As the guy above said, the brake balance is a big deal. FInd out which tire locks up first and adjust.

I’ve been doing no ABS since the Forza 1 Demo and I still lock up all the time. Don’t feel like a failure when that happens, although your car will fail that lap for sure.
