ABS. What am I doing wrong?

I have always used abs. I’ve noticed on the tops of the leaderboard no one uses antilock braking. I’ve always had a bad habit of mashing to break down shifting and mashing the throttle. Lately I have been working on not using antilock brakes. Because I know I can improve my lap times. The problem I’m having is when I do lock them up a little bit it’s like my engine stalls and I don’t get my RPM help slowing down from the motor am I missing something am I downshifting at the wrong time or not quick enough or do I just suck at it. Believe me I have tried I have run multiple multiple laps at Indianapolis Grand Prix and Long Beach Grand Prix. If anybody has any tips they would be much appreciated

You are just applying too much pressure to the point where the driving wheel locks-up.

It probably is NOT your shifting but too much brakes. If you are braking too fast and/or high brake pressure setting in the set-up the car will be more prone to lock-ups.

Try lapping using very little brakes over a longer distance. It should not lock-up. Then gradually increase braking until you feel the vibrations through the brake triggers, indicating impending lock-up.

XB1+FM5 combo has very sensitive brake triggers.

Good luck.

Bingo. The rumble is the key and has helped me a lot. I have a tough time in paying full attention and the rumble helps alleviate lock ups sometimes. When you use it right you can gradually apply more pressure and after a while you’ll learn where you can brake a little later and still hit the corner right and overall save time.

It’s just practice. Braking too hard can do that in the game. In all actuality my lap times started improving by braking earlier let off roll into turn and throttle when your able to get it. (Preferable at apex or alittle before it.)

I don’t use abs. I hate it in real life too. I have my pressures pretty high and pull trigger similar to braking in real life. (Rarely ever depressing to 100%.) That’s just me, not sure what the real fast guys do.

I would make sure your controllers dead point are 0-100 to give you best control. It’s all muscle memory. Good luck.

I definitely agree an breaking early and letting your car toll thru the center of the corner. I’ll try lowering my pressure and keep running laps , maybe I’ll get it. My biggest downfall is that I’m 50yrs old and bad habits die hard and my reflexes aren’t quite what they used to be Thanks for the feedback

I still remember my first days in FM5.
No ABS was the “only” option for me to begin with, but I kept locking up here there and evrywhere. It was so bad that I actually wanted to turn that ABS on.
Instead I went on lowering my brake pressure, quite a bit.

Some time I go I jumped one of my first cars and I didn’t remember exactly how old tune it was. Now it looks like I had my brake pressure set for so low that it was almost impossible to get the brakes to lock. Oh well… now I have learned how to brake, it always takes a while, but if you keep at it, it will grow on to you.

Thanks for the feedback guys I’ll keep at it

Mmm. I went the other way. I think I was in a Rosny OS. And the pressures were 135 or something and I found I liked higher pressure and pull less. (I rarely pull more that 50-70% in brake trigger. Should I change and go lower and pull more?
