I’m just starting this thread again. I definitely love my TX, it’s a blast. However, I know some folks were talking about mods for the TX in my original thread. Such as getting other non Thrustmaster pedals to work & etc. So, ya’ll have at it.
Does anyone have the Formula 1 wheel for Thrustmaster? I havent bought my Thrustmaster yet, but I am considering it… and I gotta have the repilica formula 1 wheel add on too. Just wondering if anyone else has it, and what its like…
Also I’m going from the Microsft 360 wireless racing wheel to the Thrustmaster…what can I expect as differences?
Those of you that have the Thrustmaster…is it worth the insane $400 it costs?
I just got myself the Thrustmaster wheel and finally able to use it yesterday when my stand came. That’s the first thing you should know. If you’re not playing at a desk, you’re going to have to invest in either a stand or cockpit for this thing. A tiny table will not work. You’re going to need something very sturdy.
With that said, coming from using the MS wheel on the 360 as well, this is by far a much better and realistic wheel compared to that. The feedback from this wheel is incredible! It’s certainly worth the $400 IMO if you love playing with a wheel. My next purchase will be the GTE rim as it just looks so much better made than the standard rim. But don’t get me wrong, the standard rim is a great rim.
FYI - the original thread was moved to the general XBox gaming section (XBox 360 gaming on the old site), so don’t be surprised if this one is too.
Basher’s site has been updated with info on the CSP/Elite pedal adapter - coming in the next few weeks.
I have a question regarding the Thrustmaster. I drive a manual/clutch with a controller. How are you able to do that with the Thrustmaster? Thanks.
Use the configuration that sets B to be the clutch, then press that button when you shift. That should be faster than clutching with a clutch pedal once you get used to it. Lets you keep one foot on gas, one foot on brake, and clutch at the same time.
The TX is not worth the price, however it is a good wheel. The pedals are poor and there is no clutch which makes quite a difference to lap times in Forza.
Compared to the general 360 wheels its a great improvement.
Compared to 360 / PC wheels in the same price range it is not as good. I find the steering a little ‘sloppy’ in the dead zone and the thing feels rather cheap buy which I mean all plastic and rubber, some leather would have added to the feel.
I have had the wheel for about 4 weeks and my lap times are getting better. I’m generally able to get into the top 200 in most rivals events.
There should be an adapter for Fanatec pedals available soon (via a third party)… Hopefully this will improve things massively.
In conclusion…
If you want a wheel for Forza 5 then you have no real choice and the TX is not at all bad, just rather expensive.
That slight sloppiness when you first turn in with the steering wheel, is the way Forza works, and not the wheel itself. As soon as the weight shifts on your car, the FFB kicks right in. Hook it up to a PC and try it in Rfactor 1/2, Pcars, Assetto Corsa, Iracing, and any other pc sim you can get your hands on; you will be surprised just how good the wheel feels on them. Also on a pc you can use standalone capable USB pedals (Fantec offer stand alone mode on some of their pedal sets), standalone USB shifters (TH8RS as one example), and even use a joystick as a hand brake (if you like drifting). The possibility’s are endless on a pc, and the wheel itself on a pc racer feels excellent.
As for your lap times in FM5, that will be all down to you. within the first 24 hours use of the TX (got it last Thursday), I have already managed to beat a few of my times in FM5. My settings in forza are
0/100 steering
0/100 acceleration
0/100 deceleration
Rumble 75%
ffb 85%
DOR 900 (unless in a race car, then I set it at 360)
As for the pedals they are a massive step up from the Microsoft 360 wireless racing wheels pedal set, they are stiffer and far more intuitive. I will be getting the T3PA’s when they are available (or possibly the adapter for a set of Fanatec pedals, assuming it works good), along with the TH8A shifter. In my opinion, the wheel is defiantly worth the £270 that was paid for it.
Just putting this thread in my active topics…
