Thrustmaster TMX. New entry level Force Feedback wheel.

Surprised there isn’t a thread on this already.

I’m not getting into the specifics, Thrusty’s has revealed the TMX. In a way this is the T150 for the Xbox One. It will retail for $199, and come with the standard 2 pedal set. The wheel rim is fixed and it cannot be swapped with the rest of the T series wheel rims, but the wheelbase is compatible with the T3PA Wide pedals, the T3PA Pro pedals and the TH8RS shifter.

Hope its more reliable than the TX 458 (I had four failures in 27 months).

Hopefully it is more reliable. Personally I’m gonna sit back and see how this wheel does before saying yea or nea. There is also the most hated peripheral manufacture, their name is something about fanaticism… They are rumored to be working on a new wheelbase. I want to also see what they are doing as well.

The Thrustmaster TMX is shown as “In Stock” at Amazon.com

As I read it only the wheel has force feedback, the pedals do not. The pedals look exactly the same as my Ferrari 458 Spider set. I don’t have any experience with FF hardware; do the pedals normally have it as well?

I’m interested because of the price, but would like to verify whether or not the pedals have FF as well.

Cheers!

Just ordered one from Amazon.ca. I’ll report back when I have a chance to test it out.

I actually interested in seeing how this feels as I’ve owned the TX before and sold it, but I’m looking to get into more PC racing moving forward and looking at getting a wheel again. $200 is a great price point for a FFB wheel.

I’ve had the TMX for 3 days now and am quite pleased. I upgraded from the 458 Spider wheel so don’t have any direct comparison to other Thrustmaster FF wheels. The build quality is quite good, although it’s plastic with rubber grips vs. the leather and metal of other wheels. I compared it side-by-side to my son’s old G27 and, while the build quality of the Logitech is better, the feel is quite similar as far as smoothness of operation. The pedals are the exact same pedals that ship with the lower priced non-FFB 458 Spider wheel. They work well - smooth feel, progressive resistance on the brake, and adjustable angle on the pedals themselves. The only knock against them is that the base is not heavy at all and must be anchored somehow to prevent sliding. I attached mine to my home-made rig with screws so no I have no movement issues.

The wheel clamp is again the same as the lower priced 458 Spider. It works like it should - nothing else to say. When connected to the XBox the wheel does it’s calibration thing and is recognized without issue by the console. It does not show up under “Devices” in the XBox settings menu but functions properly regardless. Force feedback is quite strong and defaults to 100 in Forza. I turned this down to 75 and it’s much more manageable for me. Not sure how the FFB compares to a TX, but I assume it’s similar. I believe the TX has a fan but I haven’t seen nor heard one on the TMX. I’ve also read that the TX has a “sensitivity” setting; the TMX does not. Rotation defaulted to 540 in Forza and I played around with this, from 180 to 900. The wheel responded as expected, and I left it at 540 because it felt right for me. I haven’t played long enough yet to notice any issues like the “pull left” problem that TX owners report. I hope to put in a few racing hours this weekend so I’ll report back if anything strange happens. I also haven’t tried Simulated steering setting yet. I had it set to Normal for the Spider wheel and forgot to switch it over.

Overall, at this early stage, I’m impressed and pleased. The wheel feels good in my hands, the shifters provide a good “click” and the pedals work well. The entire wheel assembly feels solid, not “toy-like” as per the 458 Spider. The price ($269CDN) hits the sweet spot for me because I couldn’t spend $500 or more on a wheel. And if I decide to upgrade my pedals or add a shifter the TMX is compatible with the Thrustmaster Ecosystem components.

Recommended. So far.

I can confirm that the TMX suffers from the “pull left” issue as well. It’s happened to me a couple of times now. Once it happened when I was watching a race replay. Suddenly the wheel just turned left about 45 degrees and stayed there. When I turned it to the right there was resistance and it would snap back to the left if I let go.

After nascar update, my thrustmaster tx ffb and vibration are ok, but it’s not giving leaps when it passes in track bumpers . I ran yesterday and everything was normal before the update of nascar.

I am using 100% vibration and 42% ffb, thrustmaster tx via usb on xbox one. Tried 100% ffb and no way.

Hey, what are your settings for your tmx? I just got mine and can’t get the steering radius right. Its as if my guy isn’t turning enough. I had it at 540-900 and still didn’t like how it felt in comparison to project cars.

thanks

sam

I run 540 for street cars and 360 for race cars. Sometimes even 270 for an F1 car, but 360 more often. I haven’t experienced the “left pull” issues in a few weeks now, so maybe that was fixed with the NASCAR release.

Cheers!

Welcome to forza’s Force feeback. I have found you are better off running a lower DOR in most cars. I tend to run 360-540 on most cars in forza. This is personal preference and I dont care to have my hands cross if i dont have to, or only on the tightest of corners.

My thoughts of TMX:

FFB and the wheel in general feels good for me. No holes for hard mounting, but mounting with clamp feels solid.

Pedals are plastic but do their job. Can always upgrade to t3pa if want more quality and a clutch.

For the price I think it’s pretty good wheel, if it works. Mine lasted for 5 days and the wheel just died while playing Dirt Rally.

I bought the tmx pro from game stop with the 3 pedal set 2 months ago so far it works great doesn’t feel cheap the wheel is solid and the force feedback could be a bit stronger but for 199.00 it is a great entry level wheel. For those just wanting to be casual sim racers this is a great wheel to use. You can upgrade to the shifter or continue to use the built in paddle shifters wich also has the feel of some of the more expensive wheels I think they are actually the same ones used on the higher end models. I highly recommend this product to anyone
