Single player in this game sucks. The drivatars are not remotely realistic to how the people I know race, so I see no point in it. Secondly why is it I have to come to a dead stop during a race to wait for the cars on the track to make a turn? That is the dumbest thing I have ever seen. Sure the visuals in the game are nice and the cars and tracks are well done but on a track like Road America, my Ferrari F12 gets out paced by absolutely everything despite having over 700HP and close to 500 lb*ft torque and while I have it set up to actually take a turn unlike the other crap on the track I can’t because it’s one big charlie foxtrot waiting for all the extremely fast cars (yeah the cars that make an F12 look like it may as well be a Honda Civic in A class) now make some of the slowest turns on the track they can make while taking up every inch of track width wise so you can’t get around the pile up. It’s so infuriating. All the while 1st place gets out of reach of even catching. Turn 10 honestly promotes some of the worst racing they can for single player.
I know what you mean. In the higher classes the AI bunches up in the first corner and it is very difficult to get around. One is lucky to get out of first corner without a scratch.
I have only so far stayed in lower classes and the competition is fantastic and AI takes some daft and frequently surprising moves. I like the FM5 AI and think it is one of the best AI I have raced against (at least in lower classes).
They are at least more predictable and more civil than the public lobby human racers . . .
I agree with this completely. There where times I remember Dan G. talking about the AI and Drivatars back in the E3 days before the game was released showing that they where smart and would avoid each other. Not only that but the cloud computing would make them smarter. So far they act just like they do in every console racing game since the dawn of time. I played GRID and GRID 2 the other day and wow, the AI in that are the same as in Forza 5. They follow set lines, regardless if anyone is there already or not. They also can slam into each other so hard that if it was me, I would be driving at 2mpg till I could make it to the pit, but they just keep racing like nothing happened. I personally the Drivatars where better in the original Forza Motorsports (yes they tried Drivatars before) on the 1st Xbox (I still own that game, as with every version of Forza)
I think the team need to work in the actual physics, AI (Drivatars), Day/Night Cycle, and Weather system before talking or doing anything else with TIRE PHYSICS. They aren’t the only part of the game. The tire physics are nice and all, but only if the rest is working, which nothing else is.
They are (Turn 10) priming themselves for what happened to another developer (GT devs) come to mind. GT1, 2, 3 where awesome. Then they got lazy and just rehashed the same things over and over. T10 came along and took their crown and they haven’t gotten it back yet. Its not just them either, lots of companies get lazy and just churn out the same old thing with very little in progress.
They also slam into the back of my car when I’m coming up to a turn (sometimes they don’t brake at all going into the corner), swerve into my car when I go to pass them in the straights, or when driving next to them, they’ll start turning towards me slowly untill I’ve got two wheels off the track. It’s like they can’t see any of the other cars.
At least when you’re online there’s a chance the other players will know how to drive. The AI in Forza 5 is terrible.
The sad thing is this is some of the best AI I’ve ever seen in a racing game.
There is no punishment for crashing. In real life you damage your car. In Forza 5 your car gets damages, not realistically, and the AI cars are only cosmetic. They can slam into each other over and over really hard and drive around like nothing. In previous Forza games you would see those drivers cars smoking and driving slow, they would pit and come back with a ugly buy drivable car.
Forza Motorsports needs to go more to the SIM side now that they also have Horizon. There is no need to have two arcade racers from the same studio.
Forza Motorsports needs:
Realistic Damage (if you crash to hard your car is done)
Better Money payouts (no one races because they only get $12k a race)
Repair bill at the end of a race (will stop real players from driving like idiots if they have to pay for repairs)
Actually work on the physics, not just tire physics. (Tired of that is all they work on when the rest is broken)
Make AI aware of surroundings and have the same penalties as real players, not hard to do other games like GTA IV had drivers move or stop before hitting things.
More tracks from the get go, nice that they are adding them free but even that is broken. Especially if you have already raced everything in the so-called career mode.
More cars, not the 1/3 they used to ship with. Even with the car list cut down lots of cars are incomplete and broken. Gauges don’t work, if damaged they have graphical bugs, etc.
Day/Night cycle, it is needed for REAL Racing games.
Tire wear
Gas needs to run out more realistically.
Longer races, forcing pits for Tires and Fuel for a more real experience.
Weather, since real races sometime actually do happen in weather.
Better smoke, dirt, etc effects. Its a shame that when you do a burnout in this game you barely see the smoke and what you see is gone in a blink of an eye.
Stop giving away DLC cars for free. They need to be earned, not just appear in the garage for no work.
Lets make Forza Motorsports just that, a motorsports game…
When I did single player I would just use the rewind button on the first turn until I was happy with the outcome of it. After that I wouldn’t touch it but I should never have to do that at the beginning of every race in single player
On Road America I have a problem with turns 3 and 4 since they are both 90 degrees or very close to it. The AI tends to get over aggressive that are behind you and bully their way through while the AI in front of you couldn’t be going through it any slower. I just see a car in my rear view I know couldn’t possibly slow down in time and I go wide to stay out of the way and it messes the race up. I was getting mad because in A class I have the 2008 Viper and it is relatively slow and I accept that, I only use it because it handles very well, but then I switch to the F12 for more horsepower and torque and every car that started behind me blows past me and I can’t even remotely catch the others in the straights, I’m just like I’m out of ideas. The lower classes I agree have always been better in single player.
Maybe it is me, but I have the understanding you will generally trade speed for handling and vice versa. You generally can’t have it both ways or you can at least try to balance it as close as possible.
I don’t know how I am doing to do Long Beach. That track is fun to drive by yourself but in a race it is overwhelming. There is no where to go. There are so many cars on the track you’re kinda like yes please go ahead of me I can’t do this with everyone here.
I still get mad at the drivatars sometimes but trust me it does get better with time. Set the AI level as high as you can cope with, they behave better the higher you go,also go into free play where you can set the number of drivatars and practice there,it helped me. Good luck.
I’ve said this since day one. People try and debate “OH THAT’S HOW ONLINE WORKS”.
Now, why in the world would I want people to be crashing into me on and offline? And regardless, I know the people on my FL. They’re great drivers. Yet their drivatars will divebomb cars, overshoot turns in excess of 60mph over what they should be doing.
The system REALLY needs to be refined and vigorously tested, or scrapped. Fm4 had some bad AI, but bad and brainless are two different things.
The actual AI in this game is so much worse. Like, when you’re doing a track day event and there are no drivatars, just AI. Holy sweet mother of mary are they awful.
I think the solution is to give us two levels to choose - difficulty and racing etiquette. The difficulty choice is as it is now but the etiquette be normal (as it is now), mild, very mild or something similar.
That way people can choose because different people seem to have different drivatar sets, some are intolerable whilst others are fine to race against and don’t need the taming.
Just wait until you try the AI (on any difficulty really) on Long Beach. Like you said, I know how my friends drive, and the AI drive nothing like it. AI is one entire crash course with no opportunity to get into the top three from 16th and have a clean race. This promotes dirty driving in order to get a gold medal, which in turn causes people’s drivatars to drive dirty on this track which in turn leads to people having to be more aggressive and so forth and it’s a vicious cycle that won’t be broken.
Long Beach is a fun hot lap and auto cross track, but in career it’s a nightmare. They should make drivatars on that track from people’s hotlaps.
Overall, I think the AI are pretty good- the only issue is first place shooting ahead while everyone else wrecks in turn one and you’re stuck in 16th place with only 2 laps to race - though whatever they do that is dumb on occasion I can live with. Even the worst AIs (in my mind) are better than P. Muller in FM4 (hated him) and they are still better than any other racing game I’ve played in a while that allows half of what you can do in FM5 tuning and set up wise…
They race exactly like other players. Their behavior is based on other players. Other players are why the AI drive like they do. The only deviation is in how much they slow for corners, because that will determine their lap pace, and lap pace is the main difference between AI levels. Decrease the AI and they will corner slower.
I don’t race anything like my drivatar does, I have been told how bad my drivatar is many a time. I race clean, race clean lines, and I do my utmost to avoid any contact where humanly possible. I have raced against my drivatar using my second live account, and it is just awful and wrong; I dont race like it does. The first week I had “issues” with the drivatar system, now though, I get mostly clean races with them almost every time. I have a few videos on my youtube channel showing a some of those clean single player racers (denoted by SP in the title), clicking on my signature will take you to my YT page.
They do not race anything like there real life counterparts, my friends drivatars are terrible driving across corners dive bombing hitting other cars for no reason, my friends do not drive anything like this
