Hi guys,
Just to set things straight i love forza 5 its a great game apart from the obvious. Ive been a forza fan for years but what is drivatars all about?? Its a great new concept to the franchise but its so niggly and frustrating. You brake for the bends and they smash straight into you causing your car to be knackered in the first lap of the race. Your in their draft down a straight and suddenly they break or swerve… why??? Anyway t10 has got to fix this but my question is. Without changing difficulty is there anyway to turn down their aggression? Im not slating forza jus literally this frustrating drivatar issue
Thanks
I hope the Drivatar system gets some attention soon. I feel this system is a huge upgrade from the previous AI that stick to the line like glue and never make a mistake, but when a Drivatar makes a mistake then drives straight across the track causing mayhem and a blown engine for me I start to wish the old AI were here. Being pushed around the track, brake checked and spun gets old fast. I am not looking for an easy experience, the difficulty is always set to max on a Forza game. When racing online and you come across a dirty racer you are able to vote on kicking the player making the racing clean and fun but racing offline now feels like a bad lobby most the time. Great idea and kudos for Turn 10 for coming up with it, just needs a few tweaks and all should be good.
The drivatar system is perfect the way it is. The cleaner you race, the cleaner they race.
Maybe for you but thats not the case from what i’m seeing. Just started playing the career on a dummy account as my real one is broken & cannot be accessed & i’ve never seen such random madness on track in multiplayer never mind with these drivatars. Going down Rd Atlanta’s straight earlier after i’d somehow managed to get past the carnage of the previous 14 drivers without touching anyone, i cruise past the leader who is on the opposite side of the track, i get halfway past & it just slams into me ruining my car & the race…start again, exactly the same, rage levels build, switch the ruddy thing off. Not a good thing to have if you want repeat value…saying that just a working game would do me right now.
I think it is important to note that not everyone is having the same problems.
I just stumbled across a review on an achievement website that included terms like “drivatars are too aggressive” and “drivatars are …”
But not everyone is having the same issues. Since the latest patch I have gone back and done some of the races without gold (some Road America some not). I have not seen first turn pile ups, I have not been rear ended, I have managed to complete races with rubbin’ is racin’ but no more.
The question that really needs to be answered or at least investigated by Turn 10 for future improvements is why is it different from person to person? Is it just some of us have friends who bully the ai cars?
When talking about it, nobody talk about the difficulty they play on.
I bounce between Above Average and Highly Skilled difficulties.
Depends on the race and class and drivetrain i’m using.
Although this isn’t a solution, it’s how I have gone past the stupid parts of the AI. This only applies to Free Play, though, and not Career.
If you haven’t noticed, even on the highest difficulty, the AI has a structured grid difficulty positioning system. Meaning, the drivers in the back of the grid aren’t as skillful as the ones in the front. The ones in the front are less likely to brake early and less likely to confuse a GP race for demolition derby. The way I cured the problem was to set each race to only have a handful of drivers, on the highest difficulty. (If they are too fast for your taste, then bring it down a little, but not too much.) I’ve been racing like this since and I haven’t faced any major issues with the AI. The only times they act up is usually on the first lap (possible due to colder tires) and sometimes on some odd straights, like the bridge right after the finishing line at Prague. Racing in F1 cars is completely useless, because the AI obviously doesn’t comprehend the amount of downforce and tire temperature needed to properly maneuver turns. Even on the highest difficulty, I tend to finish 10-20 lap races several laps ahead of the AI, lapping them multiple times. Other than those few instances, I’ve had good luck with it so far. Again, this won’t help if you’re knocking out career races, but at least it’s something to help with the headache.
Just for your information only ,you do know the drivatar idea was back to the first game forza 1 on the original xbox. The idea existed back then but i think it was only learning for offline usage ,it was even called the same ‘‘drivatar’’ so its not completely new idea .And was thinking …All these years they could have worked better with all the drivatar idea and it would have been perfect but they chose not to for some reason.we could have had this on forza 3 and 4 if the wanted to and the expirience gained from those two would have been a game changer from T10.Anyway HAPPY GAMING GUYS n GIRLS !
I totally agree. Thanks for the advice ill give it a go and see if makes the drivatars a little less hyper lol
Thanks
I think the drivatars are responsible for some of the frustration. I’m not sure I enjoy the angry feelings I get sometimes.
Please do not sacrifice good fun in the attempt to be too realistic or emulating human behavior. Something about it is a turn off, I think I enjoyed using slower cars to create competition rather than this random actively unpredictable AI.
The aggressiveness at times feels like an insult, just taken a little too far imo.
I prefer to run agaisnt the dravatar than people online.
I just bought my Xbox One on Saturday, so my experience with Drivatar is limited. However, I have been playing racing games for 2 decades.
I have been having a blast racing against my friends Drivatars. As far as I am aware, the drivatar will perform near your ability. Pitting you against drivers with similar skill. I have seen some of the drivers take turns badly, such as burning too fast into a turn and falling off the track.
My favorite thing thus far has been the fact that the drivers do not all follow the exact same line. It makes for some really sweet passes on turns, especially when I first started driving in FM5 and was kicking out the rear around turns, in between two cars, no contact. Makes for really cool replays.
The only time i’ve dealt with Drivatars crashing into me, has been if I slammed them at some point. The cleaner I race, the cleaner they do.
I have to check to see, but I think you will often see people from your friend’s list racing against you. If you want better drivatars in your races, do not add friends who race dirty. My friends list is mostly people from my FM4 Car Club, and we race hard and clean.
Doesn’t matter if you are the cleanest racer on the planet if your Drivatar takes your line into a corner I can guarantee another equally clean racer will take another line and hey presto you wreck him or he wrecks you. This would seem to be unavoidable because everybody has different styles of driving and the Drivatar program just can’t handle it leading to career races that are a bloody nightmare for noob and experienced racer alike. This is only one of many problems Drivatar has but my personal gripe is anybody trying Forza for the first time in career will be left with the conclusion that if career racing is so bad going online is going to be as bad plus when you’ve been wrecked continually by the same driver in career you are going to draw the conclusion when you meet that racer online your first reaction is going to be to vote them out or block him. I test cars endlessly in career and am wrecked by many cars sporting my friends names I know these guys in life race fast and clean but their Drivatars are a nightmare. I therefore have come to the conclusion that if it was possible to withdraw from the Drivatar program I would as the paltry amounts of winnings basically isn’t worth the damage it’s doing to my reputation as a clean racer. Lets face it Drivatar was designed for the Xbox One when they were gonna make you sign in every day they should get rid of it and replace it with something we their customers want like a storefront or even the clubs send Drivatar and Forzavista where they belong onto the pile labelled really bad idea and will instead
listen to our customers so we give them what they want please take note Turn 10 and get me out of the Drivatar program.

I would love to assume that the description in game holds true.
Drivatar is supposed to judge how you corner and how you pass.
If for example, you take turns really hott and tend to crash, it will record that info. If you race clean and avoid crashes without contact, your drivatar should as well.
I would like to hope it was designed to drive like you, not exactly the way you do. I don’t want it to follow my exact line. I want it to handle situations the same dynamic way that I do.
Time will tell though, I just started playing 2 days ago. I’ll have to see more for myself.
Drivatars which are placed in top (1-5) drive really well for me, it’s them further back in the field, the ones that you have to pass to catch up which is causing problems, if the entire field would be as good as them in the top of the field, it would be perfect.
I do try to race them clean until I just get bored and start to drive like Pastor Maldonado.
Personally i think we should be able to opt for two different styles of Drivatars…
1: Regularly Drivatars for your average gamer - Just like we have just now, They take unnatural lines, Brake on straights, Smash into you and are generally are unpredictable.
2: Race Drivatars for serious gamers - These guys take the racing line and are generally predictable like race drivers are. No crazy t-boning or slowing down for you to hit into them.

I like the having a choice option but for me your options are around the wrong way.
I race on unbeatable and the drivatars I race against are just fine now - so the “just like we have now” for me lines up with your second option.
I just want to point out I am not criticising your opinion just that the drivatars in my game are not painful to race against.
