Firstly, I did try to respond to one of the comments under the topic heading ‘Monaco’, where one member’s opinion ( an opinion that they’re entitled to have of course), was that there was no point adding Monaco if you’re not racing Formula Ones!
With all due respect, in saying that there isn’t a need to add Monaco because Horizon 2 doesn’t havet F1’s in the game, my response to that statement than, is why add any of the Supercars, Hypercars, Vintage racing cars or the Rally cars to Horizon 2, if the game doesn’t have any racing circuits! The free roam feature in Horizon 2 is a great way to test drive all the cars in Horizon 2, as well as being able to cruise around and take in the great scenery! However, overall the Horizon series is all about racing, racing online with friends and other racing enthusiasts!
In other words , the focal point in my opinion is that the city of Monaco would’ve been a great addition to Horizon 2! Monaco to me is really the central hub of this geographical location along the Mediterranean coastline between France and Italy, and to race in the various classes of cars in Horizon 2 around the F1 circuit in Monaco would be fantastic!
In fact, I have the latest version of Codemasters F1 2013 which obviously has the Monaco circuit, and I’ve owned every F1 game over the last 20 years and often wondered, how cool would it be if you could race a variety of different cars, from the old classics to the modern Supercars around the Monaco circuit and not just the open wheeler F1’s!
Incidentally, it wasn’t long ago when Richard Hammond and Jeremy Clarkson did a ‘Top Gear’ special along the Mediterranean coast through France and Italy, and one of the major stops was in Monaco!
Now Horizon 2 has a central hub for the festival and a variety of club meets, and if you’ve been to Monaco or had watched the Top Gear special, you would know that everyone who lives in Monaco drive the most expensive cars in the world! The streets of Monaco look more like a prestige car sales yard, where by tourist spend hours walking up and down the sidewalks photographing cars like the Bugatti Veyron, Rolls Royce Phantom, Lamborghini Aventadors and Reventons, Ferrari 458’s and 599’s etc…
I would’ve made Monaco the central hub for the Horizon Festival along the waterfront, or up on top of one of the lookouts we you can see the entire city of Monaco and the huge marina down below!
In saying that, I didn’t hear any of the guys from Playground Games or Turn 10 specifically say Monaco was in the game, whilst being interviewed at E3 or in any of the numerous interviews leading up to the release of the game, but many of the game magazines journos, as well as other Forza enthusiasts did state or simply made the assumption that Monaco was in the game! I think this came about after the first images of the map appeared on line, and because the map had the entire coast between Nice and Costelletto, everyone just assumed Monaco had to be in the game, because it’s located between both of these Mediterranean coastal cities!
I think the reason why Playground Games and Turn 10 left Monaco out, is because it is a huge congested coastal city, with lots of hotels, apartments on the surrounding mountain tops that cascade all the way down to the streets along the shore and marina. Even though the Xbox One is more powerful than the 360, I think it would’ve struggled with the entire city of Monaco, and for those who were purchasing the 360 version, my guess is that if Playground Games and Turn 10 had added Monaco on the Xbox One version, more than likely they would’ve had to leave Monaco off the 360 version because it surely would’ve murdered the 360 consoles!
