"There's no point adding Monaco to Horizon 2 if there are no F1's"! I BEG TO DIFFER!

Firstly, I did try to respond to one of the comments under the topic heading ‘Monaco’, where one member’s opinion ( an opinion that they’re entitled to have of course), was that there was no point adding Monaco if you’re not racing Formula Ones!

With all due respect, in saying that there isn’t a need to add Monaco because Horizon 2 doesn’t havet F1’s in the game, my response to that statement than, is why add any of the Supercars, Hypercars, Vintage racing cars or the Rally cars to Horizon 2, if the game doesn’t have any racing circuits! The free roam feature in Horizon 2 is a great way to test drive all the cars in Horizon 2, as well as being able to cruise around and take in the great scenery! However, overall the Horizon series is all about racing, racing online with friends and other racing enthusiasts!

In other words , the focal point in my opinion is that the city of Monaco would’ve been a great addition to Horizon 2! Monaco to me is really the central hub of this geographical location along the Mediterranean coastline between France and Italy, and to race in the various classes of cars in Horizon 2 around the F1 circuit in Monaco would be fantastic!

In fact, I have the latest version of Codemasters F1 2013 which obviously has the Monaco circuit, and I’ve owned every F1 game over the last 20 years and often wondered, how cool would it be if you could race a variety of different cars, from the old classics to the modern Supercars around the Monaco circuit and not just the open wheeler F1’s!

Incidentally, it wasn’t long ago when Richard Hammond and Jeremy Clarkson did a ‘Top Gear’ special along the Mediterranean coast through France and Italy, and one of the major stops was in Monaco!

Now Horizon 2 has a central hub for the festival and a variety of club meets, and if you’ve been to Monaco or had watched the Top Gear special, you would know that everyone who lives in Monaco drive the most expensive cars in the world! The streets of Monaco look more like a prestige car sales yard, where by tourist spend hours walking up and down the sidewalks photographing cars like the Bugatti Veyron, Rolls Royce Phantom, Lamborghini Aventadors and Reventons, Ferrari 458’s and 599’s etc…

I would’ve made Monaco the central hub for the Horizon Festival along the waterfront, or up on top of one of the lookouts we you can see the entire city of Monaco and the huge marina down below!

In saying that, I didn’t hear any of the guys from Playground Games or Turn 10 specifically say Monaco was in the game, whilst being interviewed at E3 or in any of the numerous interviews leading up to the release of the game, but many of the game magazines journos, as well as other Forza enthusiasts did state or simply made the assumption that Monaco was in the game! I think this came about after the first images of the map appeared on line, and because the map had the entire coast between Nice and Costelletto, everyone just assumed Monaco had to be in the game, because it’s located between both of these Mediterranean coastal cities!

I think the reason why Playground Games and Turn 10 left Monaco out, is because it is a huge congested coastal city, with lots of hotels, apartments on the surrounding mountain tops that cascade all the way down to the streets along the shore and marina. Even though the Xbox One is more powerful than the 360, I think it would’ve struggled with the entire city of Monaco, and for those who were purchasing the 360 version, my guess is that if Playground Games and Turn 10 had added Monaco on the Xbox One version, more than likely they would’ve had to leave Monaco off the 360 version because it surely would’ve murdered the 360 consoles!

Game is made up; Castelleto in-game actually contains the cathedral of Amalfi

half that picture is from 2 months ago when I actually WAS in Amalfi.

Simply: Monaco wasn’t featured likely because it would require a license that may force Playground Games to change the entire premise of the Horizon 2 title. Therefore, it would have less to do with Formula 1 cars and everything to do with the fact that the landscape of Horizon is fictional and the minimal replication of real world environments would mitigate the need to budget for costly licensing agreements.

Personally, the unfounded anticipation that there would be real world circuits in Horizon 2 was ludicrous.

Wholeheartedly agreed.

As my previous post; I was in Amalfi & Naples this summer and actually drove the coastal “road” all the way to Positano. There is absolutely no way in freezin’ hell that that road has been recreated in game, not even to a degree. The official coastal road has 1 corner every 370 metres (on average) and you will be hard pressed to fit 2 Lamborghinis next to eachother there. The corners are vicious as well; most hairpins are 30km/h or less turns whereas the game allows for triple (or more) that speed. The tunnel in Amalfa (in-game Castelleto) is regulated by a traffic-warden because on 2 cars WILL ever fit through it. Yet, in the intro-movie from FH2, a whole bunch of supercars is lined up with room to spare.

Yes, it’s a game and I cannot recollect anywhere in any previews/betas/interviews that the developers spoke of actually recreating existing environments to the pixel; several elements of real life cities were taken and partially recreated. The game is a recreation of the “ample luscious surroundings” of Southern Europe but doesn’t really come close to the real deal.

Absolutely. Unfortunately, fans will continue to put themselves in a position to be disappointed. With the original Horizon it was Pike’s Peak. With Horizon 2 it’s Monaco. What’s next, folks?

I’m betting FH3 will be in Japan (we’ve done U.S. , E.U. , Japan would make sense). Ppl will demand Tsukuba, Suzuka, Fujimi Kaido.

One can only hope.

That is assuming there is a H3. I really like the game and really hope there is but one never knows for sure.

Horizon will never be taking place in a country that has left-hand traffic, forget that dream

Absolutely not. I am thinking FH3 will take place in Japan because of the amazing Shutoku Highway System, finally a game other than the Tokyo Xtreme Racer series to have this, I could only hope!
Racing down the Wangan, pulling over for car meets, etc., Horizon is the right game for this place and considering the features FH already has, a direct replacement for TXR.

…Plus it may get some Xbox One sales in Japan.

Even without the licensing, the trouble with Monaco is that EVERYONE knows it from Formula 1. So the first thing everyone will be looking for when they enter the city is a scale recreation of the circuit they know and love, and there’s no way Playground would be able to do this without taking on a burden much more suited for Turn 10. Cities like Nice allow them a lot more creative freedom by comparison.

Never understood the love a lot of people have with Monaco. Imo it’s more a driving parade than an actual race, as overtakes only happen when someone is waving the blue flag.

Love watching F1 races on Spa, Imola, Suzuka etc. But when they are in Monaco or on the Hungaroring, I rather watch a 3rd division curling game.
