The way legacy Forza games have been treated is anti-consumer and completely inexcusable

That’s not correct I am afraid, I own the Xbox 360 Classics Ultimate Collection of Forza Motorsport 3 with all DLC cars on a second disc as well as the Xbox 360 Platinum Hits Complete Collection of Forza Motorsport 2 with all available DLC content.

Sadly the FM2 Discs are NTSC only so I needed a US Xbox to use it. Spend almost a total of 1000 Euros importing some of that used consoles from the US to Germany but all of them were DOA. I had a proper AC-Converter and even bought a specific power supply for these classic Xboxes but now I had spent so much money getting only electronic waste I lost interest on Forza Motorsport 2 Complete Collection anyway…

I bought FH3 Ultimate Edition and FH4 Ultimate Edition in a bundled sale for €59,99 right before FH3 was delisted from the Microsoft Store. I can guarantee you that it came with all expansions for both games, just not 2 car packs for FH3.

As you said they were complete editions not the original ultimate editions
There’s a difference

They also didnt have expansions…just car dlcs

You too
You would find that the fh3 edition you have was the complete edition…not the original ultimate editon that was released
The bundle you are referring to is still shown on a certain online site …which does include everything you said…was not the original ultimate edition though…you got a good deal
There was a huge uproar at release of fh3 because the expansion pack was relased separately and not included in the ultimate edition

If only there was access to the old forums to see what happened

It still seems to be hanging around in the legacy FH3 section. You can find several old threads in the vein of this one:

I don’t know about complete edition. It said it was the Ultimate Edition for both games. Anyway, I got 2 games, all 4 expansions and most car packs for the price of 1 base game so definitely a good deal!

That’s some commitment right there, brother. Chapeau!

Did you even read my post completely?

Yes, that is probably the case, but other racing franchises have kept games as old as 2005 still onsale to this day, even ones with licensed cars like Need For Speed and Midnight Club.

If these franchises, which are way less successful than Forza can keep old titles onsale with probably less than half the budget, why can’t Forza? Is it really necessary they cut off quite literally ten of their twelve game franchise titles just to save a miniscule amount of money comparable to their net worth?

Even if on the extremely rare chance they can’t relicense something even with money, why don’t they simply remove it from the game before bringing the rest of the game back? Midnight Club did that with the music in the soundtrack, and they only removed like six songs over the course of 14 years.

It’s not that they can’t, it’s that they won’t.

I’m theorising here but I suspect they want you to be in Forza Horizon 4 or 5, and/or on Game Pass because that’s where Microsoft make the money.

One easy way to funnel new players into your latest, more expensive game is to remove the older, cheaper one from stores.

Expiring licensing deals are the easy out for this but keep in mind that these games have 500+ licensing partners, all with slightly different and sometimes conflicting terms of agreement (not only in terms of how their assets are used, but also in terms of how royalties are determined).

It’s not just music or cars, but everything that has a real-world brand connection. Liveries, sponsors, wheel rims, bodykits, you name it. Even certain individual buildings (Edinburgh Castle etc.) have image rights. Go play the credits sequence of any of these titles for a list of partners.

Also, when it comes to “why can’t company X do what company Y did”, not all companies operate in the same way, nor do they have identical agreements with their licensors.

The old games aren’t coming back, and a 50 post forum thread isn’t going to sway Microsoft either I’m afraid.

I wish I knew someone who had storm island who could gameshare it with me strangely enough I somehow have fast and furious but not storm island and I cannot begin to express how badly I want storm island everytime I play horizon 2 it bothers me so much seeing that storm island marker on the map and not being able to experience it call me childish but it upsets me :pensive:

Reading this a bit late…but…

People on Microsoft forum are not Microsoft staff unless it says so for that person. Usually Xbox Ambassadors or some sort. What they write are not to be trusted that far as what is possible or not.

Unless you bought game on disk your account on Microsoft says what you bought, so you have proof you own it. If redeem codes to get DLC or whatever was the process.

But remember reading something on a forum to be sure you install from a profile and account that purchased these DLC’s. So if you have other profiles than Menecroth check those out.

Deleting all local saves should refresh what is on cloud and what you own. If you did a lot of disk transfers and stuff this could differ from the active profile you are on.

After that going to libraries and manage game and addons it should be there if you ever owned it.

Other things are the usuall clearing cache by power down holding X-button on console until fully shut off. Then unplug power fully for 30s and then start console again. All normal power down has some things running and checking updates and whatnot.

Just some new ideas…

Nobody stops you from buying FH1, FH2 or FH3 on disc.

I know my opinion isn’t the majority, but as somebody who has actually played all of them: FH4 is a very good FH game. I’m not saying somebody isn’t missing out, they all of their own unique elements that make them good individually. FH1 is legitimately amazing all around, FH2 has an amazing map, FH3 is really immersive, but FH4 in the state it eventually reached is also a VERY good game. I think people dismiss FH4 way too easily. It has its flaws, and some of them are a big deal (engine sounds), but as an entire package it’s one of the best in the series. The high points of the other games are much more focused: atmosphere, music, the map, etc. While they have just as big downsides imo as well (music, multiplayer, repetitive gameplay, etc), it’s just easier to ignore because it may have been that person’s first FH.

I still cant believe they didn’t let us buy the old DLCs, or give them to us free, during the 10 year anniversary though. That was actually a tragedy.

one thing I noticed about FH2 and all the DLC I got, it did not show up in “owned games” on my Xbox when I deleted it to make space, it also doesn’t show up in a search in the shop - makes life difficult for owners

there are other games that mysteriously don’t appear in “owned”, though most do

I had saved a shortcut in a group so quickly put it back

It might be under Games with Gold tab in your library. Though for some reason currently it only shows 4 of 20+ games I have on that tab. You can still find FH2 in store but it’s very difficult. Trailer and all are still there. Easiest way to get there is through manage game and addons menu if you can find game in your library.

It probably is though, not on here, on here, the demographic is more in favour of FH1-3, but if you ask outside of here (for example: places like the Reddit for the series), you’ll find a lot more voices which are in favour of FH4 now

Good for them but we’re all allowed our own opinions without thinly veiled digs being aimed at us for it.

I personally think a large chunk of FH5 is the way it is because of FH4 and am continually perplexed at how people fail to see bad signs were there in plain sight in that game.

It only seems to be with FH5 that more people have got wise to them, but repetitive playlists, broken leaderboards, bizarre design choices (solo online racing did not even exist at launch) cheats in online races, general dev sloppiness and a feeling that coercing people into ‘engagement’ was the #1 priority were all present in FH4 too.

People saying about those things in FH5 now like they’ve just realised them are years too late, of course a developer + publisher is going to think abandoning the entire team adventure part of online or leaving leaderboards riddled with impossible numbers is fine if barely anyone says anything.

The existence of ranked racing + a much prettier and better map to drive/race in pulls the wool over people’s eyes with FH4, in terms of structure it’s as soulless as 5 and again in my opinion is what set the ball rolling for us to end up with what we have now.

So I personally can never look back on FH4 with fondness, I put much more blame on origins of things rather than ones after that just follow in it’s footsteps.

And most of you FH1/FH2 megafans fail to see problems in those games. One of them is that you can’t download tunes anymore. Next problem is almost NFS style arcade physics in those games which good tunes would help with but… yeah…

I can hear that “but handling Lambo in FH2 is a lot more difficult than in FH5” from back row. That’s only because of input lag created by framerate: 30fps.

I’d rather ask a vegan about a bacon sandwich than discuss anything with you so please don’t bother.

Because you’re one of those “my way or the highway” people.

I’m not joking about tunes:

You should try actually playing older games but you won’t because you already have all GS game has to offer so it’s just waste of time.
