The Trial Make it Rein

I am by no means the fastest driver in Forza, but I manage to hold my own.
I did luck out with this week’s trial, got it done in one shot. Got matched with fast, good drivers and we worked as a team to beat the drivatars.

I made sure to leave some room for those faster guys on my team so they could pass safely. I did not place first but did overall contribute to a quick victory on the first two races - trial ended.

Sure, sometimes you encounter bad drivers that have no concept of teamwork, but hey, it’s a game, and isnt all that bad.

The only things I really hate about the Trials is dealing with Unbeatable Drivatars and finding the car/tune that I’ll be able to achieve a helpful position with. Compared to that tedium, the occasional person getting aggressive and making me miss a Checkpoint or something is just a minor annoyance.

Same problems as the previous game. As soon as a player drops out so should an AI (mid race).

I don’t mind trials; however, this one has failed to find a team for me all Thursday and Friday. I managed to win with an excellent team in the one I got today where the game didn’t crash.

Why? This will ultimately not benefit players. Unless you take away the highest ranking one of course

This is a fundamental misunderstanding of how the trial works and it’s part of the problem. Once someone gets into the hall of fame they should have one of the characters walk the player through how it works and why. It won’t stop the malicious rammers who want to ruin everyone’s day but it will help the people who don’t understand the points system and the concept of a team.

In FH4, automatic ghosting got very good at predicting and dealing with rammers. FH5 has regressed and rewards rammers.

I know I’m a grumpy old man for saying this but I don’t bother helping, I try to win and that’s it, 650pts is me doing more than enough for the team without making up for other people’s incompetence or stupidity, I’ll only stop going for 1st if a teammate gets there before me.

FH4 quickly made me realise the majority of people won’t know you’re trying to help and you’re unlikely to ever get any gratitude for it.

I had a person in my team for the current trial who came absolutely flying into every corner in every race before I pulled away, only for them to hold a solid position in 2 of the 3 races, that’s perfect proof they were intentionally going into those corners trying to bulldoze anyone and everyone regardless of whether they were team/AI otherwise they’d have eventually dropped down places if they carried on going around every corner the same way.

Like I said in another thread unless I know them from here/TrueAchievements or they’re a well-known player for something in the game I am going to be prejudiced and assume they’re either a poor driver or a clown like the one mentioned above.

I am always happy to be proved wrong on it but more often than not I end up right to have such a low opinion of the common Trial player.

Yeah trial is a hit or miss. Can be fun, but can be extremely frustrating. Last season, I spent ALL DAY doing the trial, never got a decent team. I pretty much always finished in the top 3, I wouldnt say im an expert driver, but im no novice either, but due to 1 or 2, sometime 3 team members that dont want to / cant race (one race, we had 1 guy that literally did the entire circuit in first gear), or spun out, didnt try and recover, but didnt quit, my team always lost… becasue of how the points system works.

Came back first thing the next morning, first try, team was all full of B700 cars (usually a good sign). We didnt even have to do the 3rd race, completely obliterated the other team on both races. Blue team had top 6 positions on both races (finished 1st on 1st race and 5th on 2nd race, but if youve got 6 blues on top 6, doesnt really matter whether you finish 1st or 6th).

For people that dont understand the Trial race, it can be a very disheartening experience, it purely is luck of the draw that you dont get any idiots.

I would like to hope one day, the devs could implement features that would automatically kick out those “useless” players, ie those that arent doing more than 50mph or something, or just sitting dead in a corner… but given their current track record, I’m not going to hold my breath.

For me this trial was the triumphant return of the dumb wallrider. Too many times I was smashed by a “teammate” who was not able to control his car on the track, but unfortunately too quick, so he could ram me while I was braking for the corner. Two times this behaviour of the team - who must have mistaken the trial for a new version of “Demolition Derby” - ultimately led to losing the trial. I still can´t understand why it must be so hard to just finish the race when the team is winning by a good margin. Instaed some drivers have to prove their incompetence by battleling for second or third place and push their mates off the track - resulting in the drivatars just passing by and winning the race and the trial. Also too many players came with untuned cars - and no wonder ended up last.

Hardest part of the Trial (at least for me) is getting by my fellow teammates as they are vastly more unpredictable than the AI. Every now and then I find myself in a race for the podium with another fast driver who is willing to race as clean as possible just to see who’s faster, and the search for these rare moments is why I continue playing. After finding such a driver I always send a “Thanks for the great race!” or “Nice Racing!” no matter if they beat me or not, but far more often I find players who have too much ego or too little skill to let a faster driver by. But by far my least favorite moments are when I win on race one of the Trial and then my “teammates” actively do everything they can to keep me from winning again. (even tho I always try to slow up the AI behind me) I’m sure this has happened to many of you as well, as I am certainly not the fastest out there, but I try to learn from those who are.

I’m a decent driver getting better again, but man this trial was difficult because of the matchups. My fellow drivers kept trying to take me and other team members out. I’ll never understand unless they’re all new to the Trial.

I finally beat it when thankfully all but one other driver dropped out. The race and drivatars are actually easy to beat in Make It Rein, so it’s just other users.

I’ll try entering the Trial right away next time to see if that helps.

Just have a solo or co op option for trial too.

trials can be cancerous, sometimes i replay them more than once not due to toxic ai behavior, but inconsistent people, who either ram you in corners or quit midgame and you left with less points to win if you not first, i haven’t seen anyone yet to beat 1 place and take the lead on unbeatable, personally my best place was second, first place is just out of reach when ai has rocket tech boosters if everyone has maxed lvl
it’s safe to say once i finish them i never go back, it’s just frustrating and uninteresting experience for me

I have succeeded in 6 trials according to my accolades.

I have probably had 10 attempts.

Out of that I would have seen human players win at least 12 races, some me, some others.

While I know is not the easiest to win, I am surprised at some of the descriptions of how hard it is.

Is AI a bit inconsistent? I tried most of available cars and sometimes AI is “easily” catchable and sometimes it is just driving away. This is most visible in 2nd race.

Fix the God Damn rubber banding of AI’s in 1st and 2nd place.

Then the trial would be more enjoyable.

the rubber banding is clearly a cheap and rubbish way dev’s dealt with driving AI.

That’s one problem in the trial, but in the rest of the game they also have rocket fuel, and you cant draft behind them. I think generally fix the Ai without looking too much at the trial Ai which is a bit easier.

I have a feeling that the AI coding is bugged.

when the 2 cars up front they just rockets off each other, it’s as if there is a “Feedback Loop” between the 2 AI cars that constantly engaging in “rocket fuel” to fulfil some AI coding condition

something like

AI 1: “Car in front is launching off” “engaging catchup mechanic” (car engaged rocket boost)
AI 2: “Car behind is fast approaching” " engaging catchup mechanic" (car engaged rocket boost)
AI 1: “Car in fornt is launching off” (again) " engaging catchup mechanic" (car engaged rocket boost) (again)
AI 2: “Car behind is fast approaching” (again) " engaging catchup mechanic" (car engaged rocket boost) (again)

Watching from behind the 2 front AI cars basically boost off each other, and note the front cars almost NEVER overtake each other, which is what got me to suspect it’s the developer’s coding that is causing all the problems.

Also, the AI does not seem to care about road surface condition, i’ve seen AI’s with sport road tyres making tunrs on dirt faster than rally tyres, same issue with FH4, so I’m pretty certain the AI’s programming does not take tyre and road condition as a variable.

Correct observation. AI doesn’t even follow PI class. A Morgan 3-wheeler can be X-Class and beat the daylights out of you with ease. They tried to make AI faster + infinite grip. Notice they never slide on dirt or Cross country races. When G-Force is too high for their cheated stats, they all just tumble on the curve,

To win this Trial, just use Porsche Taycan S with A800 offroad tires tune and ram the 1st AI. That’s it, race is yours.

The AI coding problem is much worse than simple rubber banding. I ran a B700 unbeatable solo race the other night where two AI directly in front of me (they were in 4th and 5th position) hit a wall and stopped at the outside apex of a fast corner. As I rounded the inside apex at ~120mph and hit full throttle, both AI began racing again and zoomed past me like I was standing still. Both AI went from a dead stop to at least 150mph in less than half a second (infinite acceleration). I love the solo races in FH3 and FH4. But with such terrible AI coding in FH5, I don’t see the point in bothering with FH5 solo races. For me, that means no longer bothering with FH5 until the AI gets fixed, if ever.
