The state of the gaming industry and with that fm8

We have all seen the news numerous layoffs around the gaming industry, games being cancelled, not to mention the state of games being released ie; cod wrc fm8 I could go on and on gollum etc.

But is this the best we’re gonna get ?..have we surpassed the golden age of truly great games. To me it seems like it. 2024 sucks for gaming.

The only games that seem to make money is fifa, nba2k and these fortnite like games which they’re seems to be a tonne of.

I don’t hold out much hope, it’s all about money and I can’t see FM8 making much money for them going forward!!

Wrong place to write about it but well… there are still many great games coming out tho, but no good racing games …

I’ve Always Enjoyed other Racing games Like F1 Grid Autosport Grid 1 & 2 forza motorsport on the XB360 PC2 DIRT 1 2 & 3 also Dirt Rally 3.0 V Rally 4 / Gravel forza Horizon 3 forza horizon 1 I Would Love to see more Circuit Racing games that care about the Player Experience Rather Than a Players putting hours & hours in a Game Getting Burned out With car Leveling & to many Bad Actors In MP

I feel like Horizon has been doing pretty good, though I guess it’s because its become the bigger side of Forza. It’s no longer just an offshoot of Motorsport, its become bigger than Motorsport as it stands now. Forza Motorsport might as well be considered the “offshoot” now, at least that what it feels like

All that you mention have little value to my gaming preferences but one of them certainly changed gaming cause we got this New Forza Motorsport 8, or Forza Motorsport Motorsport, not the 2005 one that all the old players knew but the all new Forza Motorsport motorsport eight for the new to motorsport motorsport fans… Hooray!! :weary:

The state of the gaming industry is rather interesting… we get told about how good it’s going to be, then we get shown how good it’s going to be, then over fifty percent of us drop cold hard cash on getting it a week before the “actual” release date >< Idiots!

I like gaming and paying for said gaming with the money I make. When gaming doesn’t deliver said Insert every pre release in-game clip here and then after discussing said issues being stonewalled (not so much lately on this forum) yeah I can agree with the topic title, then we add the 18/6… Just wrong

Games are only great when they are made by those that live them, not month by month throwaways which is evident in the quality of the games we are seeing. I’m really upset that you Microsoft have decided to treat people, those you have employed to generate revenue for you to just do a job, just what we ask of you then goodbye… smh

Great games are made by a great team and all that we have here with this installment is a number eight, nothing great, if anything it feels so separated from the team that made Forza Motorsport 7, that you have no one from that team involved… apart from Dan.

Turn10, Microsoft

Good games come from teams that are full time employees, make it happen

Its not gonna happen. I dont disagree with your opinion, i think a dedicated team from start to finish would have made a better product, but its just not the way its done anymore.

The only thing we can hope for is that when a game releases like this, the people who are actually full time employees are held accountable for their mismanagement and poor decisions.

Things can only continue getting worse when management can’t lose.
• If an organization’s endeavors succeed, management gets rewarded more while others might only just get to remain employed a while longer.
• If an organization’s endeavors fail, management still enjoys job security in well-compensated positions while others lose their jobs for following management’s direction.
…Either way, management wins & their wallets stay full.

It’s all upside for management while all the risk & consequences fall on those who have no decision-making authority & are mismanaged.
Personal consequences are powerful teachers, and without them, important lessons are missed, affecting perspective & decision-making.
…So, I expect worse as long as the same names remain at the top of repeated failures.

Product Excellence is not the focus anymore, Squeezing every last dollar out of everything is. lets hope fm8 is to turn 10 as saints row was to volition games.

I do think something has to change. Economics tell a simple story. A product now is vastly more complicated and expensive to make than what it was it was 10 years ago. The cost to purchase the product is relatively the same (with adjusted inflation and game pass it could be cheaper) finally the market has barely grown ,in Xbox’s case it’s contracted. So all signs lead to a very unhealthy industry.

Games only have to be working enough to sell things like skins and MUT cards

What ya’ll mean to say is the large AAA published games are crap and monetized to all get out. There are so many great games releasing every week! You just have to be willing to look past the first page of the store.

Want a fantastic little indy racing game? Try out New Star GP. It releases this month and is on early-access on steam and has a demo on Xbox. It’s SO GOOD. I can’t wait to buy it.

Balatro is a cross between roguelike, vampire survivors, and poker. Which sounds nuts but it is ridiculously fun and addictive.

That’s two off the top of my head. The gaming industry bubble is popping. All of the AAA studios and publishers who went down the path of creating monetary opportunities instead of, you know, making GOOD GAMES are feeling the consequences of their decisions. There is going to be a major market correction and I think we are feeling it right now. These companies got too big for their own good. Started smelling their own farts, so to speak.

Gaming will be fine. There are a million games to play at any given second. If you spend even 5 minutes playing a game that you dislike, or “hate”, then that’s completely on you.

Agreed. With all the layoffs recently, the upcoming few years could really be great for indies

Well thats why i said hope. I know how these things work, but i also know a failure as large as this will have an effect on the studio. Theres many rumors as to what happened during development, some may grant turn 10 leeway to not get shut down, but im sure if they survive this there will be changes to various positions.

Id say the bigger issue is if a motorsport game is actually important to microsoft. I think in the past horizon and motorsports release schedules allowed for a minimal constant engagement in the forza franchise. This title isnt nor can i really see it holding up its end of the bargain.

Other than the forzatech engine, what does turn 10 actually add to the forza franchise at this point. The only asset they share beyond the game engine is the cars which are made by contractors.

The fact is this game offers nothing new to the genre. There is no hook that they can expand on. The slow pace of updates as well as the content added hinders any real momentum most games often gain from these things.

They just released the most popular track they could have and it has done little to impove momentum. Once again its hamepered by poor design and implementation of features like a tire wear/fuel use multiplier in single and private multiplayer as well as being missing from multiplayer hoppers.

Post release development cant be blamed on microsoft or covid anymore. The lack of transparency, the lack of timely fixes and updates to existing features have shown the existing management is not up to task. Whether or not microsoft sees or cares what the specifics are of the failures i dont know, but if the studio is going to have a future things have to change.

They make plenty of money, the cost of the game isnt the problem their greed is. They want year over year growth and profits no matter how they get it period. Releasing sub par products infested with money grubbing tactics wont improve the situation which is what leads to layoffs. However many they need to get rid of to make a profit that year is how many will lose their jobs.

I’ve started Getting Into Indie Games Now that Actually Cares about the Players & the Quality of the Game Although I’m Very Fussy what Games I Like I Hope to See More Indie Games Come to Xbox there Isn’t Really that many on Xbox compared to Steam Yes I can Buy a PC But It’s very Expensive for me. Microsoft Needs to Get their Act Together & Stop Realising Broken Unfinished Games Don’t Let Microsoft or any Publisher Get Away with this Practice Speak up Don’t be Afraid of other People Not Liking what you Say Online there will Be many others that will Feel the same way as you do Including Me

they were not short on cash, due to their hiring policies ( which avoid having to pay benefits ) they were short on team cohesion, This produced a disjointed mess, and the obvious grind they added so Microsoft would pay them more money further soured things. All this has led to the market rightfully rejecting this soulless cash grab.

Microsoft has a Net worth of 3 trillion Dollars i don’t. The Cost has anything to do with it It’s something Else within Microsoft that Hurted Forza motorsports Reputation Big Time

I wouldn’t say it’s more expensive to make, just cause everything has almost gone digital cutting out the physical manufacturing costs and the retailers cut.

Sure there’s more work that goes into AAA games to make them look pretty along with the needed progression like with anything. That’s where things can hit a wall in gaming. You run out of ideas to entertain and try different things, in FM8’s case they didn’t listen to the customers ideas and ran with Raytracing for their lipstick, and charged more for it

Everyone involved in the making of Forza needs to be fired. I have a hard time believing any of them have ever played a video game or went to a race in real life. You have to try really hard to fail this hard and I don’t know if they were born this stupid or had to work at it to create this piece of dung game. Every aspect of this game is bad. Did anyone who worked on the game notice how terrible and unrealistic the graphics were? The tutorial that you can’t skip shows how much contempt they have for their customers. We are are not stupid like the people who made this game, we can figure out how a steering wheel and pedals work. Maybe in the next game they can try adding some racing with real purpose built racecars on real race tracks and hire some graphic artists who aren’t blind.
