So yeah, was super excited on October 4th, then I realised this game was a joke. Played for a few hours, hit prestige 15, ie, level 15000+ along with like 440m credits and lol, whatever. It’s pretty obvious the creative minds/geniuses left the Forza team back in maybe 2015ish. Honestly, Fm6 looked better than this. Heck, Fm4 looked better. How is this even possible. That game was developed like 12+ years ago. It also had an absolute ton more features. Here is what I gathered on day 1 really:
The upgrade system was more stupid than what we thought since we have to waste time for hours until you unlock random parts, not even with credits but with “car points” acting as if this is like a cod weapon attachment fantasy.
Credits became useless since you earn them at a rate which is tied to your driver level. The most expensive car in the game was like £450k and who only buys expensive stuff? Within like 1 hour I could buy whatever I wanted. Barely even played and I’ve achieved what seems like endgame??
Driver levels don’t feel like they matter at all.
The game was not built by car enthusiasts. No auction house/anything to dump credits into. The car list is terrible, nothing like the variety in old Forza. The models suck and most of the cars look like cartoons. The cars are mostly hyper cars and there aren’t many shtboxes to soup up, the telemetry is limited, statistical readings are bare bones, the modifications you can make to cars have gone backwards since 2012, tuning is the same etc etc etc. I understand that it isn’t the 2000s anymore so that whole side of car culture is gone, so ideally they’d appeal to the masses and they already have with their showcases being mainly about graphics/textures/glossy paint/reflections. Fm4/Fm3 showcases were a whole different world with how they showcased their games explaining how they reworked physics and basically made it identical to real life with the choices you make within the game. But again, it was a different world then. There’s no dyno chart when upgrading cars. You have to press so many buttons to see how an upgrade affects your 0-60.
Their advertising that they prided themselves on so much (AI/RT) was negligible. AI on lvl 8 (max) is easy once you’ve overtaken them, even on lvl 1 the first 2 players will rocket out ahead while everyone else is just being unstable. The graphics don’t look better than older Forzas, even Fm4 looked better. This game was built on a console almost 2 decades newer aswell, pathetic really.
So many other issues like the aforementioned that can’t be fixed with a patch/hotfix as this is the core build that is Fm8. You can’t do anything about that. All the saving issues/glitchy menus and blah blah will be fixed, but who cares as the base game can’t be reworked, ever.
Sooo, yeah, Forza sucks. What can you do I guess. It is just the direction videogames have taken as a whole. Waiting on the new Wrc, Skyrim Es6, Gta 6 and Bo5. Haven’t really played videogames in like 7 years :L
Well, I just found out that GT7’s about to get the LFA and new 911 GT3 RS. So I’m one Audi R8 and maybe an Acura away from putting this out to pasture and going somewhere that knows what they’re doing.
Oh really, haha. The people who run the games now are not the same pioneers who made the franchise back in the 2000s, sad to see such huge videogames being passed down to imbeciles who haven’t got a clue what they’re doing. I haven’t played that, I last played Gran Turismo on the psp at my friends house after school, wow that was a long time ago haha.
Are these newer installments any good? I remember in 2012-2015 I was waiting for a GT to release on my Ps Vita but it never did. At the time I was just playing Fm4 a ton on my Xbox 360, it was heaven I swear. In my mind I can tell that videogames as a whole kind of lost the plot after maybe 2016ish. Games from every franchise are either dying or becoming something it never started out to be. (Compare Fm8 to Fm4 or bo1 to the newest cod for example, they’re miles apart in terms of what the core game is.)
Completely agree with you this forza has been pathetic and the games released by Microsoft from the last 5 years all ring true of this, halo infinite was laughable.
I think gaming is lost, its become very corporate now you’ve got these shallow games (Fortnite, Apex, warzone) that have been printing money through microtransactions and have become the goal for a lot of developers which is eroding value for money and quality of games, diablo 4 im looking at you. These kids don’t yet realise that the $1.2 billion dollars taken by activision for warzone isn’t an investment if they ever turn the game off, its all lost.
i look at playstations focus on single player, Nintendo’s focus on couch multiplayer and even tencent’s focus on gameplay… good bye microsoft… shame your such a monopoly
Is the endgame of a racing game owning a bunch of undriven cars? I mean, okay, you’ve used a bunch of cheats or glitches or whatever to unlock everything. Personally I don’t care, that doesn’t affect me. But then you can’t complain that you’ve unlocked everything and now there’s nothing to do.
You could start by racing all those cars one by one. That’ll keep you busy for a while for sure.
Well, you have valid points but lets not be overly negative here. They did say it’s now going to be an evolving platform or something along those lines. So, this means new features and stuff will be added, improvements will be made - rather than releasing a new game every two years.
Have faith, friend. I’m sure they are aware of how dissatisfied majority of customers are so things are bound to change for the better.
No way lol the landscape is just different to 10-20 years ago where you now have giants like Microsoft attempting to be the Netflix of the gaming industry. Everyone who’s watched Netflix before knows there’s a handful of good shows each year while the rest are not worth watching. The same exists on Gamepass.
Outside of Gamepass are thousands of gaming studios. Many with passionate and talented teams. When the two combine they produce absolute gems. Your task in this modern era is merely to filter through all this waste to find the gems.
There’s not liking a game and there’s this situation where it is just a ton worse than older installments. This is the core build of the game that will last years and years. Stripped features, everything is dummyfied, the “builders cup” isn’t anything special and is just stale (where can I do fun stupid stuff like hitting bowling pins/souping up a piece of junk to best beat the rival or something?), the car models suck beyond belief ignoring when it looks even worse in some lighting, AI is basically the same, everything they boasted/prided themselves in their pathetic advertising wasn’t true etc. The direction of their advertising was utter nonsense anyways, what a waste of time. We have gone backwards. The developers all changed years ago and the current people in charge have 0 clue on why their older installments were so successful in their prime years back in the 2000s. They never grew up around cars anyways since car culture died out since maybe 2013. They built a game to match this era where everything is basic and designed for people who like simple rubbish. It is just dissapointing to wait 6 years for a game to have it not be anywhere near even Fm4 which was developed over 11 years ago. The graphics should be an absolute ton better seeing as how this game was built on a console almost 2 decades newer than what Fm4 was built on. A lot of people say the same stuff about wasting time “leveling” a car to get upgrades. Imagine the wasted time in trying out the cars you want to tune and stuff. I haven’t number crunched it but it would take years to do that. Doing some funky money method to try and eliminate that pointless endeavour is more ideal than wasting heaps of time on what feels like unlocking a cod weapon. This feels nothing like a Forza.
You can see from a mile away why this is happening. This era of people haven’t got a clue what they’re doing. After 2016 or really 2014ish it went downhill. They are riding the bandwagon of the original franchise that everyone loved and now they are destroying them. This has happened to basically every game I can think of. Cod, Forza, Halo, Saints Row, etc etc. Nobody has that creative spark that the creative geniuses had back in the 90s-2010. The guys from back then simply got old and are sadly no longer in charge. That and that a lot of them may have even gotten brainwashed by the bullcrap from this era, so now we have a lineup of guys who just check the boxes for the job criteria yet they have 0 creativity and lol, they didn’t grow up with any solid culture. The people now just sit isolated on phones/wasting time on social media all day avoiding real social contact whilst having 0 physical hobbies etc etc, do we really want these boring cases creating even a sandwich? I said this before but I saw some old footage of the game development studios in the 90s or 2000s. Man it was jusf a bunch of guys clowning around/throwing darts and talking all kinds of crazy stuff. They had insane charisma and it was like a pure 2000s college frat party/stag night haha. That’s the kind of people we want making videogames. Heck, they did an absolutely amazing job, they created all the games we loved from back then. All the old Cods, Saints Rows, Gtas, Need for Speeds etc etc. It was all dark/gritty and a pure hardened game. It was brutal and always had a serious tone. Heck remember Nfs Mw/Underground? The soundtrack were epic with metal and stuff. They had an infinite line of features/things to do. Fast forward to now and the games are all pink/poofy and camp and the tone is just pathetic and weird. Designed for absolutely wimpy weirdos I swear. The soundtracks are poofy as heck and never matches the games. The game is usually half done and fails to do anything. Nothing major or memorable. Just a pure waste of time.
It sucks man. This should be the era where videogames skyrocket in terms of quality. The technological backing of today eclipses what we had in lets say 2003 or 2007.
What do you think will happen? I project that the whole idea of a videogame will go down the drain soon, similar to music/tv. Everything has already happened, all the ideas have already been made. Nobody has that creative spark anymore anyways so how can things really progress forward? I don’t know, maybe saying that it’ll go down the drain is a bit far, but it certainly can’t go on like this. It has been like 8 years or so since proper games have come out consistently.
Horizon is no longer a racing game. It is anything but and they have not touched one thing to do with the racing in that game since the day it came out on preorder about 2 YEARS AGO. It’s nothing but a cut and paste of H4. Get rammed into a wall - penalty they drive off, someone comes alongside you bash bash bash you miss a checkpoint- penalty they drive off. One of the 100’s of Hairpin turns - rammed at full speed into wall - penalty they drive off. They are obsessed with hairpins when they know full well how people drive in that game. Let’s make more stories, event labs, eliminators, event islands, holiday decorations etc… Anything but fixing the racing. Literally anything else takes priority. None of it is racing. None of it. It is for people who like to collect cars and drive around. That’s it.
Well, I actually said similar stuff here in regards to the car pricing. That was around release aswell.
If you read that, I was saying that I netted around 1.3m within a few hours of playing, that was without any money methods or whatever. I was genuinly confused on as to why car costs are just arbitrary figures instead of an accurate reflection on real life rates. It makes 0 sense on as to why this was done. It’s like suddenly making a banana cost £35 and everything else in my shopping list free so it eventually balances out. Just absolutely pointless and weird.
That’s just a weird avenue to go down to feel like you are doing more in a game. Driving every car in a game is something that has always been possible. In older Forzas by the time you got bored, the next installment was well underway. Heck I don’t think anyone got bored on Fm4 because there was so much to do, it was just an all round polished game. The career wasn’t just doing laps around different tracks. You could be surprised at what the next career race was as it was explained in the opening sequence. You could hit bowling pins and weave in and out of cones, actual fun stuff. Then you could do nascar endurance races and everything. A lot of variety in a game that was developed like 11+ years ago. The main reason why everyone hopped on Fm5 was because it was bumped up to the next console generation which was exciting and new. Plus the advertising was everywhere.
This new Forza has absolutely nothing. Bare bones and lazy garbage. They even had older Forzas as a template so what the heck are they doing. They have literally stripped features and not even replaced it with anything. There isn’t even a split screen but whatever. Sucks to see such a huge franchise fizzle out.
Again, I don’t understand the argument that you have too much money or the cars are too cheap. Maybe you can buy all the cars. So what? Is your goal in a car game to amass the largest car collection that you never use? Because if that’s the case, yeah, it’s gonna be a short game.
it’s even shorter for people who don’t want to collect all cars like me. The AI is bad, the MP is bad, the immersion is bad, I can only take a break and return few months later and hope there’s something in it.
Yeah not gonna lie I may be looking to fill in the gaps between updates here now . Haven’t tried the new one but the fact that game is built upon what was truly “built from the ground up” makes me think it’ll continue thriving till it’s done in 2026ish.
I really really hope Turn10 can turn things around , there are so many very good suggestions on this forum that could make an impact once they figure out the stability issues.
