You guys are hilarious, forza has the best controller support in the industry, and have had for a long time. If you want to replicate the real world get a wheel. It’s perfectly possible to drive like the video in the OP with a wheel or a controller.
Grass works fine as is, tree only issue I have with it are the added ‘dig in’ rollover effect, a car shouldn’t roll over when sliding on grass, the should only happen on dirt/sand. This is a big issue for drifting because if you have big angle on and your rear tyre drops onto the grass the car wants to straighten up HARD, grass shouldn’t do that.
Finally some sense in this thread. Thank you Blue, everything you’ve said here is damn correct.
Forza’s controller support has been industry leading for the best part of a decade and still is industry leading. That’s because it was built for controllers since the get go. Only now is Forza finally starting to cater to wheel users with lower FOV cameras, physics based force feedback, per car tuning, etc. Go back to Forza Motorsport 6 on a wheel and it’s absolutely horrific in comparison. The controller has always and probably will always be the main focus for the franchise, hence why it’s been refined so well over the past 14 years.
As Blue said, if you want to replicate what’s seen in the video, you need a wheel. To expect that you can replicate it on a controller is absolute insanity. It will not and cannot ever happen. A controller in itself is not realistic and is not the preferred way to drive a car. If it was we’d all be driving in real life with joysticks and not wheels. This is why these hidden assists are in place and why the controller is so fast, consistent, predictable, rewarding and challenging with a good learning curve. There’s only so realistic you can get with a controller before you need to invest in a wheel.
Totally agree with Blue on the ‘dig in’ effect on grass. On sand and gravel, it makes complete sense. On grass it really doesn’t. I’d also add that grass, sand, astro turf, gravel and run-off areas in general should have far less grip then they currently have.

Just dash cam is lower FOV than Cockipt view and is intended towards wheel users.

Thats hardly a statement of their push to wheel. Would not be that hard to implement adjustable fov… every other real racing game has it. forza gives you a 2 terrible views which mathematically only work at a single exact distance depending on your monitor size. FOV is a mathematical calculation of viewing distance and screen size. You shouldnt have to reverse engineer it and move your wheel a certain distance from your screen to get a correct fov.

Couldn’t agree more but I think you misunderstood my point.
I 100% agree that Forza should have adjustable FOV and POV. What we have currently is not good enough. A system similar to Codemaster’s F1 games would be perfect. I’m just commenting that they’ve been pushing wheel users far more than what they have done previously. Personally I think there’s a big step to go but it’s much better than they system in Forza Motorsport 6.

Oh - well, I use it too as it gives a better view of the track when I’m sitting 12-13 feet away from my screen.

CarX steer assist can do it. I’m curious what it could do with Forza’s (presumably) superior physics.
I use 45 FOV in chase cam. On 21:9, 45 vFOV is equal to 58 vFOV on 16:9.

FM7 Porsche vs Spa (controller)
considering I pretty much never play on a controller, id say the systems in place for controllers on forza are great, could they be improved? sure, but its not total garbage like some try to make it out to be.

Forza 6 has been the best so far IMO
Forza 7 is okay, but it’s a pain when doing long bends. In 6 I was able to do them smoothly without and real issues. In Forza 7 though I always end up tapping the steering input just to get a somewhat smooth turn. When I enter these turns I gently move the stick to turn, which causes the car to slowly start turning, problem is it’s too slow and I’d end up off track, so I move the stick a hair-width over, the car turns more but the problem is it keeps on turning as if I have the stick completely over to one side and want to make a sharp turn.

Forza 6 is a great game no doubt - one of their best work - I love the visual consistency and exceptionally brilliant car sounds. But, the physics to me feel more nuanced and intuitive in FM7. The learning curve is more gradual, which means you’ll need time to get used to it.
With that said, I still find FM7 far too easy and straightforward. PCARS2 truly has a deep, challenging and rewarding driving model, closest feeling to an actual car tearing down the track. Forza’s hidden controller aids is what holds it back.
Anyway, try 0/100 deadzones with all assists off. FM7 is just really, really easy. But that’s just me, maybe I’ve been playing on a controller for too long.
P.S: I do use sim steering. Have since FM5. I think it was there in FM4 too.

Have you tried rotating the joystick along the sidewalls? I find this especially helps in long bends to keep a consistent turning radius, and easily ride the joystick rail to the left or right to get more or less oversteer/understeer.

Perhaps you prefer simpler, arcade-focused racing games? Forza 6 has the least realistic physics in the entire FM franchise BTW. Forza 7 is great physics-wise and has a slightly taller curve, which I really appreciate. Although I wish it had retained a few things from the FM5 physics model, which I felt was reasonably nuanced.

And you base this information on what? Can you point out anywhere forza has mentioned any major physics overhaul between 6 and 7?

No I don’t have the time for that, sorry - but I have owned and driven a handful of high-powered AWD and RWD sports cars - based on that experience alone, FM7 does a better job of simulating track racing physics. But not etched in stone - just my opinion.

Much better.
I used to race with sim steering in forza 6 and had the deadzones set to something like 20/100 so I did the same for 7 until about a few weeks ago. I lowered it down to 4/100 and now I’m at 2/100 and it’s much smoother. I’ll probably crank it right down to 0/100 like you said and switch sim steering on, see how that works for me. I haven’t used assists since forza 4, will pop the racing line on if I race at Maple Valley or VIR variants.
Thanks for the tip.
