The Force Feed Back Struggle.

Is it just me or does the force feedback feel a little like driving an early 90’s jeep with a broken power steering pump that has small ball bearings in the power steering fluid? I feel like with practice I’ll get used to it but when compared to Motorsport 6 it’s a bit wonky. It’s just somewhat twitchy and not smooth at all.

What wheel are you using and what are your settings, horizon 3 has many more options than forza 6 and because of that i feel it has much improved from 6. Im actually playing 6 now it feels horrible just as i remembered it.

Thrustmaster TMX wheel and settings are
Vibration Scale - 50
Froce Feedback Scale - 100
Wheel Rotation Scale - 270 (haven’t found the best setting for how i drive yet)
Force Feedback Understeer - 80
Force Feedback Minimum Force - 60
Wheel Damper Scale - 200
Center Spring Scale - 200

I was playing 6 and i feel like it was just a more smooth force feedback than on horizon.

Try lowering FFB scale, Centre spring scale and wheel damper scale considerably!

And turn up your DOR. 270° is twitchy as all getout.

Although ffb is subjective, your settings are pretty aggressive. Ill post my settings so you can try them, they will definitely not be as strong as yours, but strong ffb is not particularly better.

Vibration 11
Ffb scale 57
Wheel rotation 900
Ffb understeer 0
Ffb min force 20
Wheel damper 90
Center spring 95

These are my settings for the tx. Its a good setup for most cars, i only lower dor as needed. When the wheel is too strong it will often do things that you dont want it to do, you should always be in control of it. Ffb is like sound and the wheel is the speaker. Too much volume (ffb) is going to distort what the speaker (wheel) is trying to relay to you. Just like with sound you have to find the right balance of bass and treble. Too much bass, you drowned out the treble. So like i said above ffb is subjective, everyones different, my settings will feel very light to what your used to, its much easier to transition from light to heavy ffb, but i bet youll be faster with them. You can set the dor to whatever youd like if anything the lower the dor the stronger the feedback so that may suit you better, but it loses some of its nuances because its trying to fit those effects into a smaller window. Good luck.

A lot of the cars i drive irl both on street and on track have pretty heavy steering. I think i was setting it high to replicate that somewhat. I’ll give your suggestions a try, thanks for the input everyone! Any further suggestions and tips are appreciated.

Its your world, you can do what youd like. But this is an arcade game the physics arent close to being real and using a toy steering wheel in any game isn’t so much realistic as much as it just feels more natural and immersive than a controller. Sure youd want things to feel believable but at the end of the day your control of the car is the most important thing, ffb is not a necessity but an aid to help give some feedback as to what the cars are doing. My settings allow me to control basically every car that ive used it for, whether it was for racing, drifting or just fooling around. If anything use it as a base setup and tweak things to your liking. But just be mindful of what i said above with the strength, look up videos on clipping it will give you some better insight of what you want to avoid.
